Common Questions and Answers about Knee cap joint pain

knee

Avatar f tn I was told that I have patella feminel pain, I am use to having trouble kneeling and walking after a shift at work and and my knee being weak and the knee cap moving around, but lately even when I am not doing anything it feels as though something is push up on my knee cap, and extremely painful and I cant get the pain to go away. At time it feels as though something is being wedged under my knee cap.
Avatar m tn Hello, thanks for responding the pain has not gone away and it has been almost three weeks, the area of the pain feels to be a little under my knee cap in front and slightly moving to the left side of the knee cap area. When I bend it and try to put weight the pain is a instant sharp shooting pain and it looks a tiny bit puffy on the left side of the knee cap but I put ice and it don't go down. Had xrays done and I was told by ER dont look bad, should I not listen and get a MRI?
Avatar f tn If the pain comes on bending the knee, then it could be due to Patellofemoral syndrome or runners knee. This happens due to mal-alignment of the knee cap on bending the knee (and hence any imaging study has to be taken with the knee bent), injury to the knee (you may have sustained while playing), flat feet, over tight or over lax muscles around the knee joint.
Avatar m tn I'm experiencing a sharp knee pain (left knee), to the side of joint (left side) when i kneel flush on my knee cap. I've had water on the knee (right) many years ago which only occurred when i flew long distance. When i press my knee cap, no pain, nor to the side, only seems to be on hard surfaces with my full weight. Any thoughts, much appreciated.
Avatar m tn Hi, If the pain is mostly underneath the cap it says that the joint line pain would be there. Pain at the joint line is the result of a collateral ligament or meniscus problem (or both) until proven otherwise. Anterior knee pain can also be due to Patello-femoral syndrome. When did his pain begin, what was he doing at the time, and what were the initial symptoms? Does he experience any grinding, locking, catching, or giving way of the knee?
Avatar f tn He did an ultrasound and drew off some more fluid and gave him another cortizone shot. The first doctor drew the fluid from under his knee and the second drew it from his knee cap. It has been several weeks now and his pain is back he still has a little swelling but now both his knees hurt. He wears a brace on both his knees now. He has trouble getting up if he has to get down on the ground for something. We are not sure what to do now because both doctors has told him all his test look fine.
Avatar m tn I would first say, do not do any exercises that cause pain. The pain could be realted to the knee cap. Apply ice (no heat!) 10 minutes at a time a few times a day.
Avatar f tn Hi, how old are you? Any family history of arthritis? Usually multiple joints are involved in rheumatoid arthritis, it is autoimmune disorder. Investigations like ESR, RA factor and X ray of relevant joint is undertaken. Other possibility is gout, but in gout usually single joint is involved. Please consult orthopedic surgeon.
Avatar m tn ve felt a constant burning (sometimes stabbing) pain which is mainly behind my knee cap, and at the top of the knee cap (where the thigh meets the knee), it also clicks and somedays feels very stiff. this pain fluctuates every day, and some days it will feel almost fine, some days i will be in agony, both of which sometimes stick around for months. excercise is STILL extremely difficult due to pain levels and my knee sometimes locking up.
Avatar n tn It seems to run along the edge of the knee cap. At first the pain was only when I walked up and down stairs and had to put all my weight on one knee but now I can hardly extend my knee without getting sharp pains on the inside of the knee. Also, not sure if this is relevant, but there is a painless bruise on the middle of my knee right below my knee cap and I have no idea where it came from. Any ideas?
Avatar f tn I have a question. I had a knee scope (to clean out scarr tissue underneath knee cap) on 3-26-2012 I only took a week off of work & started PT 9 days after surgery. I am walking better & the bending is getting easier. My question is (my PT guy could not answer) why do I still have fluid on the top of my knee (left side) if the holes are at the bottom sides of the knee cap.
Avatar f tn Hi. . If you had recently fallen and hurt your knee, you might have had a bleeding inside your joint and collection of blood in the joint space along with some fracture. I would advise you to immediately see an orthopedician and get an x-ray or a MRI of the affected joint done. Please do not ignore it.
Avatar f tn I have minimal swelling above the knee cap but no redness, warmth or presence of a fever. The pain is worse when I am sitting, climbing or coming down stairs, and extending the knee from 90 to 180 degrees. I have major weakness in the joint when standing (almost feels like it's going to "give out" if that makes sense). In the past 3 weeks it has started "popping" when I attempt to extend it. It cracks and makes funny grinding noises.
Avatar n tn When I got up the right knee on the right side below the knee cap in was pain. Today when I tried to get from the bathroom and put weight on it was so intensed with the pain. What happen did I pull a tendon or something?
Avatar m tn The knee is a complex joint. There are numerous conditions including structural issues that effect the knee. Your pain could be from arthritis or a patella problem. Some imagining will probably be required to determine the source of your pain. I am sorry I cannot be more specific. If you offer more information we may be able to provide you with additional information. Can you describe the pain? Is it always a burning? Does it ache also? What makes it better?
Avatar m tn Some breeds are more predisposed to a "luxating patella," which is when the kneecap can move in and out of the knee joint. Rarely, smaller breed dogs can get an "ACL" injury too, but this is less common and typically a large breed disease (obese Labrador).
Avatar f tn Over the past 4 days I have been experiencing pain/Throbbing in my right knee. I do not recall doing any activities which may have damaged it in anyway. The pain feels like it comes from underneath my knee cap, slightly to the right. It throbbs when I am sat down, and if i move my knee left or right whilst my foot is on the floor I get a very sharp shooting pain which makes me jump.
Avatar f tn s a pretty significant white mass in between the joint (Between the bones), I have no idea what it is, but it is where the little black meniscus triangle on the left side should be (like a bone?).I feel like sometimes my knee might give in, sharp pain with movement, pain when stretching and knee sore to touch (top left, below knee cap, lower right side). My follow-up to review the results of MRI is in 4 weeks and I'm in a lot of pain... besides P.R.I.C.E.
Avatar m tn Hi, I have pain in the tibia of my left leg, which I think is below the knee cap. The pain started when I was 18, after I got an injury during a basketball game. Now I'm 20 and I still feel the pain only when I engage in physical activity. What's wrong with me. Could these by osgood schlatters disease?
Avatar n tn She woke up yesterday with a Swollen bump under her knee cap that is the size of 1/2 her knee. The top of it has a spot on it that looks like she scrapped or burned it like a rug burn. Says when she presses on it, it burns/hurts. Hurts to bend but only because of the skin being pulled. Obviously I told her to go to the dr tomorrow to get checked out which she is. She has been iceing it.
Avatar n tn child with a small pebbles size bump under the skin on the knee cap area. It is firm, freely moveable, regular borders, and very tender to touch. When I say freely moveable I can actually move it all around her knee cap. I moved it down so far that it disappeared for a few seconds before it resurfaced. I thought it may be a piece of chipped bone but I believe it is to smooth for that. Her knee cap doesn't seem tender only the nodule.
