When touching around the cap in the soft spots it hurts. When pushing centre of the cap it hurts also further up top of cap hurts. Getting shooting pains up thigh and numbness when sitting, a cold feeling. It's been 2 days now yesterday it was hard to walk around without a limp to keep off of it. In the past I have hit it on a couple things fairly hard as I am a labourer.
I now have a lump about 2 inches below my knee cap and it is swollen and extremely painful. It is warm to touch and slightly red and bruised. It is very painful to bend my knee and it hurts to walk. Could I have torn something or broken something? I’m very worried as I am a very busy wedding photographer. Please help. Thanks.
I have a hard boney bump on the outer side of my left knee cap. I only started to notice the bump after I've increased my running miles. The bump has only recently started to give me pain while I'm active. It is not painful to touch, but it hurts really bad when I climb stairs or bend my knee. What could be the problem?
It hurts to touch it and put pressure on it when I am walking. It is also swelled (kind of feels like there is fluid in it). I also feel grinding at the top of my knee when I move it and there it pops on the left side. Almost two weeks ago I fell and skinned the same knee pretty badly. The part that got skinned is healing nicely but I don't know what this lump is. Any ideas on what this could be? And is it something I should go see my doctor about?
hello i am 16 and male in the past week my knee has been hurting when ever i put weight on it it hurts right under the knee cap and i cant stay sitting for too long or both knees start to hurt i have also realised that i can no longer touch my heels to my butt my quads feel very tight when i try please help this has been bothering me for a while now thanks
Hello, the last few months, ive had pain above my knee cap, if i press on the muscle or tendor that seems to attach to the top of the knee cap, it is quite sore right where it connects to the knee cap, and when walking its ok, but stairs it really is sore, sitting down and getting up, kneeling. Ive tried applying heat to it, then stretching, then applying ice going for walks, stretching, seems to give temporary releif.
the next morning i couldnt walk on it the it gradually got better through the week then i went to a skatepark yesterday and when jumping off something it came back it wasnt fully healed yet anyway but it is swollen about 1/2 the size of my knee cap and hurts when i squat, or do things that put pressure on it. Its a hard swollen knot.
Last wk I was playing basketball and when I came down from jumping I had a real sharp pain in my knee and could not continue. Around the top of my knee cap is tender and hurts and when I put pressure on my knee getting out the car or anything I get sharp tack like pains under my knee cap and sometimes on the side of my knee and it aches a little, I have really slight swelling but I am able to walk. I am experiencing random jolting electrifying knee pain on the top of my knee cap. There is no swelling, no redness. The pain comes most often when Im sleeping and it's so painful I scream. The blankets can't even touch it without excruciating pain. I will add like 20 years ago I tripped and landed on top of my knee cap and it hurt for a good month. I have not had any issues until now. When I say freely moveable I can actually move it all around her knee cap. I moved it down so far that it disappeared for a few seconds before it resurfaced. I thought it may be a piece of chipped bone but I believe it is to smooth for that. Her knee cap doesn't seem tender only the nodule.

I fell Christmas 2015 running for a train and fell on a large concrete step straight onto my right knee cap. It was cut and badly bruised at the time but over a year later I can't kneel on that area of my knee without it hurting badly I'd say 9/10 pain rating. When I put pressure on it with my fingers it also hurts. The location of the pain is under my knee cap. I've recently started running which mostly just makes the area stiff.
ve been limping ever since the knee looks deformed there was a massive purple bruise which has now gone down. There is still swelling on the knee cap and the leg feels numb yet painful and tingly to the toes. It's my right leg so it's my main leg and I don't know what to do. I can move my leg but its really painful. if i touch the knee is tender and if i move my fingers on it the knee feels like it's jarring. Nothing seems like a comfortable position.
Hi. . If you had recently fallen and hurt your knee, you might have had a bleeding inside your joint and collection of blood in the joint space along with some fracture. I would advise you to immediately see an orthopedician and get an x-ray or a MRI of the affected joint done. Please do not ignore it.
t done anything (knowingly) to injure it. The pain is below my knee cap where it meets the shin bone. It only hurts when in motion...walking or using stairs, or anytime I have my weight on it. I have to limp because the pain hurts so much. Some days are worse than others; some times there is very little pain. When sitting down there is no pain, and I can move my leg around with no pain while sitting. My knee pops occasionally but nothing new.

If the pain is above the knee cap the most common reason might be due to injury to quadriceps muscle or tendon involvement.
As you did not have any injury but as you exercise regularly I still would like to suggest you to rule out ligament or tendon injuries by an MRI of the knee.
Systemic diseases can give rise to knee problems without injuries like Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatic fever, septic arthritis etc.
I'm 16 and for the past year I've had knee issues. I work at a library and shelve books so there's a lot of crouching and knee sitting. Last year I had gotten a huge bruise on my knee cap that covered nearly my entire cap. My doctor said that it was fine and that I just needed to do more physical activity. I started dance and I feel like it's just aggravating my knees more. I just noticed today that I hve a small shiner on my right knee.
x-rays show obvious knee cap deteriation ( less than 50 % of the other knee in size ) and an old MRI report said slight sublexation- I have two questions untill I get a different referral from my PCP ( although the doc stated the obvious about the knee cap he did not even bother to allow me to show him what happens when I bend my knee and it wobbles and crunchs and did not even offer a brace solution to my falls )

I feel like sometimes my knee might give in, sharp pain with movement, pain when stretching and knee sore to touch (top left, below knee cap, lower right side). My follow-up to review the results of MRI is in 4 weeks and I'm in a lot of pain... besides P.R.I.C.E. is there anything I should avoid or do to help cope with my pain? I can share my MRI images if needed... thanks!
