knee cap fall

Hi everyone, I fell Christmas 2015 running for a train and fell on a large concrete step straight onto my right knee cap. It was cut and badly bruised at the time but over a year later I can't kneel on that area of my knee without it hurting badly I'd say 9/10 pain rating. When I put pressure on it with my fingers it also hurts. The location of the pain is under my knee cap. I've recently started running which mostly just makes the area stiff.

Hi Dr. Gross, I had a total knee replacement 1 year ago for severe arthritis. The pain is still there and I can't walk right, also my knee cap keeps going out and I fall or almost fall. My Ortho gave me a brace to wear and PT to go to, to streng. then muscles around the knee. It hasn't helped. My knee cap is still my own. Why wasn't that replaced with the total knee also? Is that a norm? I am so upset and will be getting a second opinion. Any ideas why this is happening.

Hi I had a fall on Thursday and today I noticed that I have a dent in my knee with bruising.Not to sure what is causing it but I know it didn’t have a dent before the fall.

Between the knee cap where the hinge area turned a blueish gray with hints of red immediately then began swelling. I have a spurts of shooting pain . I went home immediately elevating it and icing it. Oh and wrapped it for compression. It is however the skin is numb. why??

x-rays show obvious knee cap deteriation ( less than 50 % of the other knee in size ) and an old MRI report said slight sublexation- I have two questions untill I get a different referral from my PCP ( although the doc stated the obvious about the knee cap he did not even bother to allow me to show him what happens when I bend my knee and it wobbles and crunchs and did not even offer a brace solution to my falls ) 1.

Were you walking, tripped, and fell directly on the knee cap? Or did you land awkwardly causing your knee to take the brunt of the fall in an awkward position?

It is a little sore to lift at times around the top frame of the knee cap as well. Has anyone experienced a slow recovery - and long-time bruise like this? This knee was more swollen and sore after the fall - so just taking longer??

about 2 weeks ago I starting having severe pain in my left and right knee, the pain is right on my knee cap, like on top. The pain is excruciating if I am going down something, the right knee has gotten so bad I have to hop down stairs or declines. The pain is sharp and stabbing. What is it?

The various other causes of knee locking are torn medial meniscus, mis-aligned knee cap, osteoarthritis, knee arthritis, torn lateral meniscus, osteochondritis dissecans, recurrent patella dislocation, chondromalacia patella, knee alignment problem, knee fragment or knee cartilage disorder. Since pain intensified after a fall, maybe she has injured a ligament. Please discuss with her doctor. It may be a good idea to do a MRI, if that is possible. Take care!

I had a bad fall about a year ago where I landed full force onto my knee which resulted in swelling and bruising that went from my knee down to my foot. I had pain on certain movements from then on. When I would get up sometimes my knee felt like it gave out. Also since then I have not been able to kneel down without pain in the kneecap.

My question is can the cartilage and the knee cap be from that one injury? I never had problems with my knee prior! Workers Comp is saying that it is a genetic defect and I was born with this.

I have had chronic knee problems starting in my freshman year of high school (4 years ago), when my knee cap shifted out of place almost an inch. Last wk I was playing basketball and when I came down from jumping I had a real sharp pain in my knee and could not continue. Prepatellar bursitis, patellar subluxation,knee cap dislocation all can lead to pain directly over the knee cap.Rest,antiinflammatory medications, application of ice to the knee all are very important for reducing the symptoms. I cannot be certain of the cause but at a guess I would say that I first started noticing it a week or so afterr I had a fall onto pavement whilst running (I was wearing knee-pads at the time, so it was more of an impact fall, rather than a wound). More Info : the pain does not appear when I passively flex e.g. a quadriceps stretch. I am 21, have a BMI less than 25, athletic, male. I have no history of joint pains or problems, nor does anyone in my family.

I also massage my knee and move my knee cap around in tiny circles to unpinch nerves.

But no use, then had advised me to wear knee cap for few days. I was feeling better with knee cap. I removed it after 25 days, it was little better for 2 days, then again the pain is back. After few days, went to orthopedic, he said no problems and advised me to do some exercises. Then also no use. I have still have the pain in my knee and following parts....couldn't talk for more than 10 mins. Could you please advise me how to solve this and become normal.

Whenever I touch it or bruxh it against something I get a bad pain in the side of my knee. Seems odd that an injury on the front of the knee cap and cause such pain on the side. Looking for any info, please help. Thank you.
