Oral pain medication and drinking lots of water will help relieve symptoms. It is important that you check with your doctor first for evaluation before removing the stent. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn Hello, Since the kindey stone is 7 mm, so the symptoms seem unrelated to the kidney stones. Since you are having pedal or leg edema, hence your cardiac, liver and kidney functions need to be assessed for which I suggest you to consult a physician immediately. Abdominal causes like irritable bowel syndrome can also cause such symptoms. Common symptoms include abdominal cramping or pain, bloating and gassiness, and altered bowel habits(alternate constipation and loose stools).
Avatar n tn Until your kidney stones and the UPJ obstruction are treated, you may require the stent in for a long time to prevent obstruction of that kidney. There are different forms of treatment for stones including shock wave therapy (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy, or ESWL), percutaneous removal of stones under endoscopic guidance, alkalinzation of the urine, and stone basketing. The UPJ obstruction can likewise be surgically corrected.
Avatar f tn My last period was December 4th. Unfortunately, the week after, I developed kidney stones. Worst pain ever. My last stone passed shortly before Christmas. I have felt fine since then, except for the fact that my pee still isn't normal. It's very cloudy and smelly, and the doctor said it shows a lot of white blood cells. It has now been about a month since my last stone passed, my doctor said my pee should be normal by now.
Avatar m tn I'm figuring that kidney stones take a while to form and that, if I have kidney stones and possibly an infection, it's likely that I had the kidney stones first and they contributed to the infection, rather that having an infection first that contributed to the kidney stones (sorry if this sounds confusing).
Avatar f tn Urologist performed cystocopy (normal), ultrasound (normal with R kidney hydronephrosis), CT scan showed no hydronephrosis but two 2mm non obstructing LEFT kidney stones. I keep having symptoms of what feels like uti that subsides with drinking a lot of water. Macrobid removes all symptoms while i'm on it but they return 2 days after I stop taking them. I don't have any other symptoms, the pain I usually feel is bladder discomfort and pain in urethra, some burning and urgency.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Kidney stones usually pass out through the urine stream with in 48hours. But this depends upon the size of the stone. A 4mm stone has 80% chances of coming out spontaneously, where as 5mm stone has 20% chances. Stones more than this size usually require treatment. Medical management includes calcium channel blockers, alpha blockers etc. Surgical treatment involves shock wave lithotripsy or percutaneous nephrolithotomy or open surgery.
Avatar m tn As far as I know, these are the only treatments - http://www.mayoclinic.org/kidney-stones/treatment.htm "Watchful waiting About 85 percent of the time, kidney stones are small enough to pass during urination. This occurs usually within 72 hours of the start of symptoms. The best treatment for these small stones is to drink plenty of water (as much as 2 to 3 quarts per day), stay physically active and wait to pass the stone.
Avatar n tn Through testing in June, I know that I have 5 small stones in my left kidney and the kidney has hydroneph... can't remember the word at the moment, but it means enlarged/swollen. My uric acid (1480) and oxaclic acid levels were high. I am now on allopurinol (sp? the bottle is not with me). I was told to change my diet to avoid purines and oxalic acid. I got a very short list from the doctor and was told to do some research on the internet.
Avatar n tn Hello, Stones less than size 4 mm in diameter usually pass off on their own. Stones between 5-10 mm may pass off occasionally but not always. You have developed hydroureter and hydronephrosis due to collection of urine above the site of obstruction. You must not ignore this as long standing obstruction can lead to damage to the kidney.
Avatar f tn The treatment for kidney stones depends on their size and what they are made of and also if they are causing pain or obstructing the urinary tract. Small stones usually pass through the urinary tract without treatment. It is good advice to stay well hydrated as that should prevent the stones from getting any bigger or new ones from forming. For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .

Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones at age 33 (I'm not 35) and had 16 stones over 3mm in both kidneys. After ending up in the ER thinking I was dying, I was sent home with a diagnosis of prostatitis (looking back I had tell-tale kidney stone symptoms!). Imagine an ER doc telling you he has to check your prostate when you are in excruciating kidney stone pain!
Avatar n tn An utra sound found nothing unusual. The urologist thinks it is either kidney stones or the residual effects of a bad infection. He would like me to get a CT. I am concerned as I have had 3 CT scans after a PE in both lungs 2 years ago after delivery. What are your thoughts? He does not think it is IC because it came on so suddenly. He said that the urine cultures were tainted due to the antibiotics. I can go 2-3.5 hours between void but I am holding it. What are your thoughts?
Avatar f tn I saw a urologist recommended no treatment since they were all small stones. I had no symptoms from the stones over the last 5 years. Then during my last pregnancy, I began having blood visible in my urine and discovered that there were still stones in both kidneys, but they were now much larger. I had PNL to remove stones from my right kidney.
Avatar n tn Two thirds of all stones involve calcium oxalate stones. Nutritional treatment could be as effective in considerably reducing, or even eliminating, calcium oxalate stone formation. Vitamin A (not betacarotene) promotes healthy functioning of the urinary tract. People who are low in it sometimes form kidney stones more easily than others. You can get vitamin A in most good general multiple vitamin and mineral supplements.

Avatar m tn you should do the renal ultrasound, sometimes kidney stones do give pain and other symptoms like nause. you can break stones with lithotripsy, or treat renal lithiasis with traditional Chinese medicine. Avatar m tn Emerg visit this month showed (big surprise) on CT, two left kidney stones 2-3 mm, one in kidney and one between bladder and kidney. This is the first time CT has been done laying on stomach. If part of this has been kidney stones all along, why might I be getting severe abdominal bloat with these episodes? I have not passed stone yet (week 3) but put on Flomax 3 days ago and bloat seems to be reducing. Thanks for your suggestions.
Avatar f tn Hi, what I understood from your post is that you are having kidney stone along with gall stones and may be associated kidney swelling. Please write full report of CT scan. Also please mention the symptoms you are facing. Big stones are usually surgically removed but what is important to find out renal compromise if any. Please get kidney function tests done. Gall bladder stones are surgically removed too. Cholecystectomy (removal of gall bladder) is the treatment of choice.
Avatar f tn It took a few hours but finally (after a CT scan) they figured out that i've got 2 kidney stones. One was still in my kidney and the other blocked my kidney from releasing into the bladder I was told...which I guess is where all the pain was coming from. They gave me dilaudid for pretty much the entire first day and then the pain went away on my right side so they stopped giving it to me. I left the next afternoon but was horribly cranky that entire night.
