Avatar n tn Small stones do not need to be treated and will be passed in the urine if you ensure good fluid intake so that it is passed out. Bigger stones will need other forms of treatment like surgery, lithotripsy, shock wave therapy etc.
Avatar m tn 7 mm needs other methods of kidney stone treatment. I’ll suggest consulting a urologist for the same and seeking treatment depending on the size of the stone. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces. On the other hand, if the stone is quite big, then the surgical removal of the stone is a better option.
503291 tn?1229423121 I'm in a similar stage of things, myself (ultrasound results came back today -- "several" stones, but I've no clue of exact numbers nor size, and the gallbladder itself apparently is a wee bit tattered from the passage of earlier stones, but nothing terribly horrid; my GP is hooking me up with a specialist in the next few days/weeks for the next step) and as far as I can tell, there's four primary methods.
Avatar m tn These substances can create small crystals that become stones. The biggest risk factor for kidney stones is dehydration. Kidney stones may not produce symptoms until they begin to move down the tubes (ureters) through which urine empties into the bladder. When this happens, the stones can block the flow of urine out of the kidneys. This causes swelling of the kidney or kidneys, causing pain. The pain is usually severe. Kidney stones are common.
Avatar n tn Depending upon the proceedure, the anaesthetist will decide the drug and dose to be given. The pain due to kidney stones typically begins in the kidney area or below it and radiates through the flank until it reaches the bladder. Depending on the type and sizes of the kidney stones moving through the urinal tract the pain may be stronger in the renal or bladder area or equally strong in both. Most small stones are passed spontaneously and only pain management is required.
Avatar m tn I believe this is the most current treatment available. I have had half a dozen kidney stones in the last year. I was able to pass all except the last one. A couple months ago, I had this surgery done to remove the kidney stone. The surgery is pretty quick and easy. The stent can be uncomfortable and make you feel like you have to go to the bathroom all the time but usually they remove a couple weeks later and then within a day or two you feel normal again.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones for the first time in 2006 when I was 16. I had one surgery in 2008 to break up the stones and was still in and out of the hospital up until last year for the kidney pain and the stones always showed up on x-rays. In November 2011 I went to get x-rays because I was having the pain again, and nothing showed up. I'm still having the same back pain frequently, probably once every 2 weeks.
748543 tn?1463449675 For the past few weeks I have been throwing around ideas as to the best way to respond to this matter. You see a recent article ( Feb.3 , 2009 NY times) titled "Best treatment for TMJ May be Nothing" nearly made me clench my jaw to pieces. While well written, I found that the author, Ms. Brody, relied heavily on out dated and narrow perspective supplied to her by a small group of dentists.
Avatar n tn These foods are not promoted so much now and yet as a result, worlwide we are seeing large increases in kidney and gall bladder stones. Be careful if you are on medication as things such as Diabetes etc. can be affected in a negative way because of vinegar so seek medical advice but otherwise try it in moderation and you'll notice the difference.
Avatar f tn She has other health issues - controlled hypertension, kidney stones, rhematoid athritis and I fear that the radiation theraphy will further weaken her. She has not yet fully recovered from the recent surgery although she is able to move around to some extent at home. I was thinking of trying alternative treatment, aside from a lot of prayers. Anyone here has experience with alternative theraphy?
Avatar n tn A lithotriptor is a medical device used in the non-invasive treatment of kidney stones (urinary calculosis) and biliary calculi (stones in the gallbladder or in the liver). The scientific name of this procedure is Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL). The lithotriptor attempts to break up the stone with minimal collateral damage by using an externally-applied, focused, high-intensity acoustic pulse.
Avatar m tn Ibnul Qaiyum (may Allah have mercy upon him) said, “The black seed helps against all types of cold ailments… when ground, blended with honey and drunk with some water, it will dissolve the stones that appear in the kidney and the prostate…it increases the flow during menstruation and the production of milk if it is drunk for several days… When it is heated with vinegar and placed on the stomach it will eliminate worms.
Avatar m tn People I know what I am talking about I have had kidney stones/kidney disease since 1965. Your doctor is wrong most kidney stones can be treated: the goal is to stop or slow down the formation of them. This is accomplished through metabolic testing... which many be done by a nephrologist in some parts of the US. Once it is determined what is causing the stones to form and the composition of them..
Avatar n tn I appreciate your post and all the info..I didn't give my whole history of kidney stones but...they are calcium stones, and I have been taking hydrochlorothiazide and a citric acid suppliment...I have done a 24 hr urine collection and done all i can do....the prevention methods haven't seemed to help. even have tried taking uriflow...actually that's when my most recent problem started.. a 4 mm stone got lodged in my ureter...don't worry i'm still taking the uriflow though...
Avatar n tn Since that time she has been treated for endometriosis, kidney stones and now this false tumor. While hospitialized, a lumbar puncture was done and medication given to her. However the lumbar puncture caused her vein to collapse so they took it out. Next, they did a procedure where they snaked a a type of flexible wire through her artery in up her arm to send medication directly through the artery, past the heart. That was taken out two days ago because they couldn't figure out what to do.
Avatar n tn There are other possibilities, such as polyps, stones or crystals in his bladder. Kidney stones is another possibility but that would quite often cause pain and a reluctance to eat plus possibly fever. There may be non-invasive ways of treating bladder stones, but you will have to ask your vet about that. As far as diagnostic techniques go, the least invasive are blood and urine tests, and ultrasound scans.
Avatar f tn After a while, the intense pain died down a little, but it would always come back a few days a week. My doctor sent me to a urologist who sent me for a CT scan, and at that point he determined that I had MSK from the way my kidney took up the dye. He sent my results to my GP who agreed with the diagnosis. I'm supposed to see a nephrologist soon to confirm everything, but I'm having trouble getting an appointment so I haven't been in yet.

700223 tn?1318169294 The most accurate test of BMD is dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA), although there are other methods. DEXA is a form of X-ray that can detect as little as 2% of bone loss per year. A standard X-ray is not useful in diagnosing osteoporosis because it is not sensitive enough to detect small amounts of bone loss or minor changes in bone density. Many men don't think they are at risk for osteoporosis, since these are commonly considered to be conditions of older women.
Avatar f tn and will take time to explain various treatment options. I know there are other treatment methods available other than a rush to the surgeon's knife and that especially with Graves Disease--that there is no "one size fits all" treatment. My GP has been zero help in recommending an endocrinologist.......keeps mentioning ones "good for diabetes problems". Of course I know that all endocrinolotists treat diabetes......
4801019 tn?1359349012 Hello, my name is Chris & I'm a healthy 29yr. old male dealing with what I believe is a Bladder Infection. So this all started off like four months ago. I was peeing a lot, burning when I peed, no discharge, lower back pain, lower abdomen pain & also a itch inside the penis. My family doctor did a urine sample on me & he said the sample came back with a bit of an infection, so he gave me a antibiotic but I can't remember the name, & said to take it for five days.
Avatar f tn I have had several activations and symptoms come right back full force. I have also had kidney stones and cysts on my kidneys and i swear its from EBV too. Fortunately the activations when caught early can be fairly well dealt with for me.
Avatar m tn Only kidney issue I had was 2012 when I had kidney stones, and that was from eating a lot of garbage foods and drinking a lot.
Avatar n tn I am a 25 year old female. I have been having right side abdominal pain for about 1-2 months. It just recently got bad a few weeks ago when I ate out with my boyfriend. Immediately after eating chicken wings I was doubled over in pain. I didn't go to the hospital, and the pain eventually went away. The following days I noticed the pain was there in a constant form. It wasn't as bad as the attack I had, but it hurt. This past Monday I saw my doctor about the pain.

458072 tn?1291418786 Might want to see a naturopath for that one. I know a formula for kidney stones from Planetary Formulas called, appropriately enough, Stone Free. The basic herb is called, again appropriately enough, gravel root. Don't know about the gallbladder, but that company is a good one to consult about it -- very knowledgeable people. I do know the herb artichoke helps the liver deal with the breakdown of fat before sending bile on to the gallbladder, which helps keep the gallbladder healthy.
Avatar m tn Hello, Various reasons for recurrent or persistent fungal infection are incomplete treatment, treatment resistance, co-existing dermatitis, diabetes and low immunity. Treatment resistance can be overcome by applying a cream with a combination of antifungals (Clotrimazole 1%, Miconazole nitrate 2%, Tolnaftate 1% and Butenafine hydrochloride 1%). Get her blood sugar tested, fasting, 2 hours after food and if these are high then glycosylated hemoglobin to see overall sugar status in last 3 months.
471949 tn?1236907626 I suspect Senator Ted Kennedy ran into it somewhere (He is walking with a cane now; having seizures from 'the fatigue' his doctors say TRUE, and previously he had kidney stones). This chemical is the autoimmune causing chemical.
