Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Kidney stones usually pass out through the urine stream with in 48hours. But this depends upon the size of the stone. A 4mm stone has 80% chances of coming out spontaneously, where as 5mm stone has 20% chances. Stones more than this size usually require treatment. Medical management includes calcium channel blockers, alpha blockers etc. Surgical treatment involves shock wave lithotripsy or percutaneous nephrolithotomy or open surgery.

Avatar m tn These substances can create small crystals that become stones. The biggest risk factor for kidney stones is dehydration. Kidney stones may not produce symptoms until they begin to move down the tubes (ureters) through which urine empties into the bladder. When this happens, the stones can block the flow of urine out of the kidneys. This causes swelling of the kidney or kidneys, causing pain. The pain is usually severe. Kidney stones are common.

Avatar m tn People I know what I am talking about I have had kidney stones/kidney disease since 1965. Your doctor is wrong most kidney stones can be treated: the goal is to stop or slow down the formation of them. This is accomplished through metabolic testing... which many be done by a nephrologist in some parts of the US. Once it is determined what is causing the stones to form and the composition of them..
Avatar n tn I have been treated for kidney/ureteral stones 3 times in 4 years by cystoscopic removal and ESWL. Two stones have been sent for analysis. They were composed of calcium oxalate and calcium carbonate. I am not a big dairy product eater. In fact I get far less than the recommended calcium intake for women. I am a 34 year old female. My urologist seems to not be very interested in further testing.

Avatar m tn this could be caused by too much calcium accumulation in the urine, leading to crystal formation in the kidneys. Kidney failure: Severe hypercalcemia can lead to damage in the kidneys and possibly cause permanent loss of kidney function. Nervous system deficits: Severe hypercalcemia can lead to dementia and confusion. Arrythmias: Hypercalcemia can affect the electrical impulses of cardiac muscle, causing irregular heartbeats.
Avatar n tn I have been to a GYN, Urologists, primary care physicians, you name it I have seen them. I have had kidney stones removed, laproscopic surgery (nothing abnormal) and a cystopy (spelling). I was actually hoping that the Lap would indicate that they had found something wrong so they could fix it. My GYN seems to think our next step is to remove the uterus, I just don't see how this can help.
Avatar m tn org/wiki/Hypoparathyroidism 'calcium replacement or vitamin D can ameliorate the symptoms but can increase the risk of kidney stones and chronic kidney disease' Is that really desired goal of treatment? Is there any evidence bringing the pth to the minimum can actually "cure" people or reduce their hbvdna/hbsag without damaging their kidneys? Are there any evidence/studies/previous posts of users that imply this actually works?

Selection of a fluoroquinolone for the treatment or prevention of an infection should be limited to those conditions that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria.
Avatar n tn Kidney stones Causes Gout is caused by having higher-than-normal levels of uric acid in your body. Your body may make too much uric acid, or have a hard time getting rid of uric acid. If too much uric acid builds up in the fluid around the joints (synovial fluid), uric acid crystals form. These crystals cause the joint to swell up and become inflamed. Not everyone with high uric acid levels in the blood has gout. The exact cause is unknown. Gout may run in families.
Avatar f tn I have less than half of the stones now instead of my whole kidney being full. I have had alot of litho treatment to make the stones smaller but I don't want to pass them anymore. I don't want to be on pain meds anymore I want to stay happy. I am now working 2 jobs I have to work. I can't afford to miss work. I have been on a good diet to prevent me from making more stones, but now my urologist says I am still making the stones.

The symptoms of influenza include cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and fever. Other common symptoms are chills, headache, muscle aches, fatigue (a tired feeling), and loss of appetite. Fortunately, this year, there's plenty of vaccine and you'll have protection as soon as a week after getting your shot.

Like all medications, these drugs each have specific risks and benefits. There may also be possible interactions with drugs you are currently taking.
Avatar m tn I was also diagnosed with high uric acid level 426/428 and I had high cholesterol and they found 6 small stones in my kidney. During the treatment for the stomach bacteria I developed a sore throat that stayed with me for a while because I couldn’t use medication with the antibiotics but when I started the taking just simple home medicines it went away. I never had fever during that time and never had any swollen lymph nodes until 16 weeks after the exposure the one I asked earlier about.
Avatar f tn It can cause extreme weight loss, severe dehydration, brain fog, memory loss, kidney stones and more. Treatment - stop the topamax, start estrogen replacement. I went from not having the energy to shampoo my hair, or take care of my children, home, work, etc, because of a medication and a lack of needed hormones. I also changed my diet to cut out as much processed food as possible.

Avatar n tn But recent research has shown that calcium may also play a role in the prevention or treatment of cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, obesity, polycystic ovary syndrome, and premenstrual syndrome. But people aren't getting the message, and routinely miss getting their recommended daily allowance (RDA) of calcium. According to recent surveys, average calcium intakes for women and younger men are well below their RDA of 1,000 to 1,200 milligrams (mg).
1088430 tn?1259163373 On a similar note, if you get kidney stones, magnesium in high doses can make them much worse. Check with your specialist who deals with your kidney stones (urologist usually) prior to starting a high dose of magnesium. If a specialist does okay such a treatment, lots of water with every dose of magnesium is probably important, but that is only a guess because it's true for other medications that make kidney stones worse...

Examples of such ailments include gout and kidney stones. Even though the Korean research focused on how asparagus could protect the liver from the effects of alcohol, the biological mechanism of aiding liver function applies to all potential liver toxins - including Hepatitis C.
242516 tn?1368227505 If your doctor knows that your own area is experiencing an outbreak of influenza, it may be reasonable to treat with antiviral drugs, especially if your temperature is more than 100 degrees and your symptoms have lasted less than 48 hours, and you don't have pneumonia. This is because antivirals won't help if given after 2 days of symptoms. They work by stopping the spread of the virus and if you take the antiviral too late, it's too late to stop the spread, it's already happened.
284078 tn?1282620298 Fortunately, God was on her side because she was smart enough to stop the Topamax and go to the emergency room before she developed an attack of acute narrow angle glaucoma (symptoms severe eye pain, headache, nausea, vomiting, almost complete vision loss.) Her ocular pressure was actually only slightly elevated and with cessation of the Topamax, her pressure returned to normal in a day, while it took over a week for her vison to return to normal.
Avatar m tn It is btw never the surface antigen that is attacked by anything, but the infected cells, the surface antigen simply reflects the number of cells in which it is made. Antivirals simply enter kidney cells as they are circulating medications. They do not improve kidney function, sometimes they can be toxic to the kidney cells since they tend to concentrate in them. AFP can be mildly elevated simply by hepatic inflammation, not indicating HCC.
Avatar m tn The reason they give is that the plant contains a high concentration of nucleic acids, substances related to DNA. When these are metabolized, they create uric acid, which could cause gout or kidney stones. This is of special concern to those who have already had uric acid stones or attacks of gout. The safety of spirulina in pregnant and nursing women, young children, and individuals with kidney or liver disease has not been determined.
181575 tn?1250202386 I am reposting articles / summaries on the treatment management of chronic HepB. "cajim" located these articles which are quite informative. I thought about putting them on a seaprate Health Page but didn't think it was appropriate since we didn't write them. Let's make this a sort of "Unofficial Research Thread" or "URT" for this type of information. Let's keep this URT free of comments.
