Avatar f tn It's been three weeks since my diagnosis of having multiple kidney stones on the right side. The Radiologist who gave me my stat results said I would pass them and didnt think straining my urine was something I needed to do. I finally got in to see my urologist he was upset I wasn't straining and wanted me to have surgery since I will be undergoing IVF treatments in March. I agreed because I don't want to deal with flare up while pregnant.
Avatar f tn Urologist performed cystocopy (normal), ultrasound (normal with R kidney hydronephrosis), CT scan showed no hydronephrosis but two 2mm non obstructing LEFT kidney stones. I keep having symptoms of what feels like uti that subsides with drinking a lot of water. Macrobid removes all symptoms while i'm on it but they return 2 days after I stop taking them. I don't have any other symptoms, the pain I usually feel is bladder discomfort and pain in urethra, some burning and urgency.

Avatar n tn I'm on my fourth episode of kidney stones, and all of us that have had them can surely agree, the symptoms are tell-tale and ones you don't forget. I get extremely painful cramping and horrible diarrhea EVERY time I'm trying to pass a stone. Actually, that's the first symptom I've had each and every time. It is the worst, painful diarrhea ever, and something I've only experienced when a stone starts moving through my urinary tract. Like clockwork, soon after, that hallmark back pain starts.

Recent data suggest that overall, about 6 percent of postmenopausal women develop kidney stones.

Dr. Naim Maalouf, the study's lead author, said women considering using hormones to ease hot flashes and other menopause symptoms should "look at the bigger picture," weighing those benefits against the risks for kidney stones but also for more serious problems the pills have been linked with, breast cancers, heart attacks and strokes.

In females, ovarian pathology can cause such symptoms. You should get an ultrasound right upper abdominal area done to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar n tn An utra sound found nothing unusual. The urologist thinks it is either kidney stones or the residual effects of a bad infection. He would like me to get a CT. I am concerned as I have had 3 CT scans after a PE in both lungs 2 years ago after delivery. What are your thoughts? He does not think it is IC because it came on so suddenly. He said that the urine cultures were tainted due to the antibiotics. I can go 2-3.5 hours between void but I am holding it. What are your thoughts?
Avatar f tn Drink lots of warm water, and do kapalbhati pranayam for more than 20 minutes, twice a day. In a few weeks, the kidney stones will be flushed out. After the stones are out, let me know what other benefits you noticed, and I will suggest some techniques to stimulate the thyroid and parathyroid. Kapalbhati pranayam -(Do it before eating) Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute. Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second.
Avatar n tn R several times in the past month. His symptoms include severe lower back pain, vomiting at the time of pain and skyrocketing blood pressure at the time we believe a stone is passing. The past three visits to the E. R no stone has shown up on the cat scans and ultrasound. The doctors tell us therefore there should be no pain which is very frustrating. The last uroligist wanted MORE tests and gave him an antibiotic and some pain medicine.
Avatar m tn It was found that my stone was calcium based and I was told to avoid all dairy products as well as some fruit and veg. There are 4 different types of kidney stones. Unfortunately, once you have had kidney stones the chances of getting another one are much higher.
Avatar f tn Pregnant women often times do not feel the symptoms of a UTI (urinary tract infection) of burning, urgency, and spasms. This leaves the bacteria free to spread, and it does, up the ureters and into the kidneys. This kidney infection is called pyelonephritis, and it WILL get your attention. The back pain is severe. Sometimes making it too painful to stand upright. Fever, chills, diziness, and waves of nausea soon follow. You cannot let an infection like this go unchecked.
Avatar n tn Up to 20% of adults with kidney stones may have medullary sponge kidney; the corresponding figure in children is unknown. Among patients with kidney stones, hypercalciuria may occur in 40-50%, and recurrent gross hematuria may occur in 10-20%. Although no evidence indicates that risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs) is higher in patients with medullary sponge kidney, up to 5% of males and 35% of females have a UTI.
4943237 tn?1428994695 Hi Poppy, To be honest, if you've not experienced any of the typical unary track symptoms along with it or even just prior, i'm really not sure if it all wouldn't more likely be related to your spine. The nausea has been going on for weeks right, so that's very possibly not connected to these new symptoms if you don't have a fever with it.
Avatar f tn What hurts or bothers us doesn't often do anything to baby. Many women get kidney stones while pregnant, some even have surgery for them during pregnancy. Are you have an MRI done or ultrasound?

456645 tn?1208679571 That is the more common signs and symptoms are flank pain, blood in the urine, formation of kidney stones and repeated urinary tract infections. 1522652 tn?1291241954 I know that there is a link beginning with my chronic uti's as a child, to my severe pms as an adolecent into adulthood, and then on to my chronic kidney stones and infections as an adult, and then the loss of my kidney, as well as the problems I'm experiencing now. My question is what specific tests do I need to request to accurately check my thyroid, parathyroid, and my calcium levels? Also, are there any specific questions that I need to ask.
Avatar f tn I know how you feel, although I haven't had spasms everyday, I have experienced them on occasion. It is worse than kidney stones. Undescribible pain!! It could be a number of things. Your kidney could be floating, you could have hydronephrosis, your renal artery could be obstructed and the blood supply is cut off intermittantly, and of coarse the old kidney stone is a possiblity. You really need some test done to see what is going on. I know how hard it is to find a good urologist.
Avatar n tn Hi, Ask your urologist to examine you standing up. I had a similar experience where I went for ultrasounds and different testing and finally after all the doctors telling there was nothing when I knew I could feel this huge mass, I told my urologist to PLEASE check me while standing up and as soon as he did that, he diagnosed me on the spot. He sent me afterwards for ultrasound on my side just like trayc33, to confirm the diagnosis.
470425 tn?1246926200 I had surgery in 05, I had gallstones. If you have had gallstones, is there a greater risk of having kidney stones? Or vice versa?

Avatar f tn Some ovarian cancers behave by spreading in the lining of the abdomen or by causing malignant fluid (ascites) For those women, if cancer grows back on the lining of the peritoneum, they will experience bloating, changes in bowel habits, swelling of the abdomen, and even intestinal obstruction. There are some women whose only sign of recurrence is shortness of breath from new malignant fluid in the chest cavity Other ovarian cancers behave by only involving lymph nodes.
Avatar f tn the doc said the blood in urine could be that he has kidney stones. what's the odds that both os us have kidney stones? I'm back to being worried and paranoid, moreso thna before. I really need advice (not suggesting to go get my blood test o just wait for results). I know everyone is just trying to be helpful, but this is really hard. I need to hear some suggestions as to what this could be. What STD causes blood in urine, if any??? HELP!!!
Avatar n tn Other causes include bladder stones, ureteral stones, and interstitial cystitis Bladder stones are uncommon in women particularly young women with sterile urine. They can cause slowing of the urine stream and forcing to urinate. Though rare, a urachal cyst might be a consideration. Ureteral stones can cause urgency and frequency with small volumes and yet the urinalysis is clear. You might also consider a problem outside of the urinary tract, such as spastic bowel or diverticulitis.
Avatar n tn I can't help but think that the numbness (which is what is concerning me the most right now) is somehow associated with the rest of my symptoms. I am unsure of which doctor to go to. I would really love some advice, and your opinion on what it may be that I am dealing with. I really appreciate the help. Thanks so much.
148354 tn?1211237506 I've had colonoscopy, endoscopy (mild reflux)ultrasounds,paps/pelvic exams (3)3 catscans, kidney ivp (prone to kidney stones) all tests come back ok,this pain never go aways,bm's are altered, severe indigestion and nausea.
Avatar f tn cystine (this is hereditory), struvite, calcium and uric. Mine was identified as a calcium stone and I was told to avoid all dairy products as well as some veg and fruit. Also kidney stones can form from becoming dehydrated and from frequent infections. You have definitely had or still have a urinary infection. In which case you may benefit from a course of antibiotics. A urine sample sent to the lab can identify the bacteria to see which antibiotic will kill it off.
Avatar n tn If you didn't have the spine imaged, you should talk to your doc as MS can show up there too. Hypothyroidism can certainly be a cause of your symptoms. Once treated adequately, your symptoms may improve. Another test that may be helpful is an EMG to see if this a problem of your peripheral nerves. Laboratory workup such as ANA, sed rate, blood count and electrolye profile can also help rule out other potential problems such as lupus and other rheumatological disorders.
