Avatar f tn I'm looking for some information on my kidney stones, specifically any genetic conditions that predispose someone to get them chronically. I am a 21 year old male, and have had chronic stones since age 15. (at least 5 a year). I have changed my diet, exercise and hydration habits completely, yet the stones seem to be getting more frequent and painful. I recently found out that my great-uncle died of "brights disease" at age 25 after having chronic stones.
Avatar f tn UTI can also be due to the polycystic kidney disease as well. Kidney stones and kidney failure are late-stage symptoms of the disease. I suggest you an immediate urologist’s evaluation. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces. On the other hand, if the stone is quite big, then the surgical removal of the stone is a better option. Also her renal functions need to be studied.
4159057 tn?1350422784 Cystinuria is a cause of persistent kidney stones. It is a disease involving the defective transepithelial transport of cystine and dibasic amino acids in the kidney and intestine, and is one of many causes of kidney stones. If not treated properly, the disease could cause serious damage to the kidneys and surrounding organs, and in some rare cases death. The stones may be identified by a positive nitroprusside cyanide test. The crystals are usually hexagonal, translucent, white.
Avatar f tn Medullary sponge kidney disease may be asymptomatic in most people .Few people may have a UTI or kidney stone. UTIs and kidney stones share many of the same symptoms.MSK is suspected in patients with repeated UTIs or kidney stones. An x ray called an intravenous pyelogram can help confirm the diagnosis. No treatment can get rid of cysts in the affected kidneys.
18533109 tn?1465640552 Get It but ,Usually, an imaging test and an analysis of urine are done to diagnose stones. Tiny stones may cause no symptoms, but larger stones can cause pain in the area between the ribs and hips in the back. Sometimes stone formation can be prevented by changing the diet or increasing fluid intake.
Avatar f tn the stones so they can analyze them) is the constituents of the stones. I believe a common kidney stone is made up of calcium oxylate. If your stone has some other makeup, it can be telling as to the cause of your condition. The majority of mine was not calcium oxylate, but the "lead" that gave the docs turned out to be a dead end, so I guess all my efforts to catch that little bugger were for naught. Ah well, at least I got to see my foe!! Sigh.
Avatar n tn Causes of blood in urine other than the two causes that have been ruled out include kidney infections, kidney disease, trauma, bladder stones, Interstitial cystitis, tumors, etc. In men prostatitis can present with all the symptoms described above. Additional investigations required include blood tests to check for kidney function and a cystoscopy to check for injury to the bladder lining.
Avatar f tn Please help me my mom has had mutiplaying kidney stones now for about a year on both sides of her kidneys, which also are causing blockage. She has had a history of kidney stones but not so many at the same time.
Avatar f tn I am a 40 year old female with a history of kidney stones. Latest ultrasound (1 year ago) noted stones bilaterally. I have had previous symptoms of UTI only to have tests come back negative for infection but positive for blood. The last 4 urine samples have all tested positive for microscopic blood ( all tests done in the past 5 months). I just had my anual physical 1 month ago and urine test noted traces of blood with no infection. My worry is that this could be a sign of bladder cancer.
Avatar f tn t see any stones but they could have been vry small and in my ureter{not sure of spelling} he also said he saw some diverticulitis in my colon and to make appointment with family doctor. He rleased me with official diagnosis of kidney stones, motrin for pain.My family doctor isn't in for another 6 days,he's away. All week the pain in my abdomen has gotten increasingly worse,it hurts from the top of my ribcage all the way down.
Avatar n tn This takes too much calcium from the bones and dumps it in the bloodstream, causing kidney stones, constipation, heartburn, GERD, you name it! It is not a fun disease, but out of all the endocrine problems, it is the ONE to get, because a simple surgery fixes it. DO NOT LET A DOCTOR TELL YOU TO WAIT AND SEE!!! WAITING CAUSES OSTEOPEROSIS AND A HOST OF OTHER ISSUES! Do not just take vitamin D or calcium meds. More calcium actually makes the stones, etc worse.
Avatar m tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Recurrent kidney infection can be due to diabetes, some anomaly or defect in the kidney or due to the organisms developing antibiotic resistance. Recurrent kidney stones are found renal tubular acidosis, medullary sponge kidney, Dent's disease (genetic disease of the kidney), hyperparathyroidism, primary hyperoxaluria and Crohn's disease. Since the pain comes before periods too, it can also be due to endometriosis.
Avatar m tn Luckily I have a new doc who knows the truth and he also mentioned Medullary Sponge Kidney Disease. Not sure if I have it but he said I have all of the symptoms. Google the MSK and make notes and talk with your doctor about that. Good luck and drink drink drink...flood those jokers..sometimes it actually works. I am sorry you are going through this. It ***** but stick to your guns. You know how you feel.
Avatar f tn Sounds rough going with all those symptoms. Have they ruled out Lupus? A lot of your symptoms are in common with Lupus sufferers. Normally it would be the rheumatologist who would diagnose it.
Avatar n tn The pain could be due to muscular spasm and gastrointestinal issues like gall stones or urological conditions such as kidney stones. If it persists, it is best that you have this checked by your doctor for proper evaluation. Direct clinical examination and additional diagnostic tests may need to be done. Take care and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn I am new to kidney stones. I passed my first kidney stone about 2 months ago and I know I have two more. A 2mm on one side and a 4 on the other side. The first one I had happened at night, so I woke up in pain. I am just wondering is there symptoms you can feel when you are awake. Just 4 days ago, I had 4 very sharp pains in the right side my back over a 2 hour period. Today I am hit with a wave of nausea.

Avatar n tn Ayurveda herbs will work slowly but slowly--- you have to go to an ayurveda doctor who will treat the cause of the disease not symptoms.
Avatar f tn I ahve had stones with terrible pain and stones with little or no pain.......that kind of pain was only maneable for me with morphine....so I don't envy you. I was only clearly diagnosed the first time because I pass them at the hospital and they were large enough to see....but I have also had them many times where I must have passed them without even noticing.
Avatar f tn I am not sure about Calcium, you could try the Parathyroid web-site, it also stated that your Calcium level does not have to be above the normal range for you to be symptomatic, there is a list of 18 Symptoms of Parathyroid, I have fourteen of these, however some are also thyroid symptoms, but the ones that I find a connection with are the bone and muscle pain, and the inflammation in the area of the Pancreas, It also says it causes osteo problems and bone density loss.
