Avatar m tn Ureteroscopic stone removal Urologists perform ureteroscopic stone removal to remove stones lodged in the ureter or in the kidney. Patients undergo this outpatient procedure while sedated with general or local anesthesia. A urologic surgeon passes a small ureteroscope into the urethra, through the bladder into the ureter to break up and snare the stone. In some cases, stones are shattered using a laser. Fragments may be passed by the patient or they may be extracted.
Avatar n tn I was not having any symptoms while at Mayo. I live in a rural area so the doctors here are not the greatest. Any ideas or suggestions.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering with headache 24 hours a day, fatigue, multiple kidney stones, hypertension, that all started 2 years ago. The kidney stones I have had 7 total, 3 in the last 1.5 years. I have PTH of 146, Vitamin D of 25 and Calcium of 9.2. 3 endo's in my area say that it is in no way, shape, or form hyperparathyroidism but went to Mayo and the doctor says maybe but wants more proof. They also tell me that my symptoms can not be caused by it because my calcium is normal.
Avatar n tn Other possibilities are irritable bowel syndrome, hepatitis(inflammation of the liver), kidney stones, pneumonia, musculoskeletal pain, lower rib fracture and malignancy. Irritation of the nerves supplying this area can also cause pain. Irritation can be due to nerve compression or pinching due to any spine related pathology. In females, ovarian pathology can cause such symptoms. You should get an ultrasound right upper abdominal area done to confirm the diagnosis.
Avatar m tn I have had 3 bouts with kidney stones in the past. Each time the symptoms are different. First time was the excruciating consistent pain for about 5 hours resulting in a stone being passed. Second time was off and on pain, but pain was mild in comparison to the first, resulting in a stone being passed days later which looked completely different then the last one.
Avatar m tn I have been dealing with chronic kidney stones for 8 years. I have passed over 200 stones and have over a dozen currently between both kidneys. I have been to about a dozen different urologists with each telling my husband and I they don't know what to do to help me stop forming stones and then labeling me a "pain drug seeker" so they don't have to admit they can't figure it out. I am now being seen by a urologist at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD.

Avatar f tn I have 2 pains in the front directly under my rib cage about 2-3 inches down from my sternum. CT scan revealed 9 kidney stones all. 7 are 2mm and 2 are 1mm. I'm 5. Ft tall 109 lbs. the only experience I ever had with kidney stones was when I was pregnant. Passed a lot of blood then nothing, little cramping in low back and it was over. This pain has sent me to the ER twice. I was vomiting a lot back in June and lost 16 lbs so they took my gall bladder out.
Avatar f tn Certainly the pain your having could be from ureteral stones, and ureteroscopy is preferred in lower ureteral stones in child-bearing age women because lithotripsy may bruise the ovaries if used for lower ureteral stones. Infection is unlikely as infection and an obstructing stone usually leads to a high fever and is an emergency.
1966687 tn?1325731223 It is pretty common for something like a kidney stone to cause blood in urine. These can get extremely serious may even be the cause of an UTI, although sometimes they can pass without notice nor problem. I'm not saying this is what caused the blood in the urine, just using it as an example because kidney stones are pretty common. As it is, do your best to not be afraid, and make sure you keep up with your doctor.
Avatar f tn I also had a mulititude of symptoms with no diagnosis. I went to the Mayo clinic in Florida and had the best experience. I started with an internal med doctor who listened and I was in his office for 2 hours. From there, he sent me to different specialities all within the clinic. They have people that do all this for you and although it takes time, usually over days--they were extremely efficient and did their best to schedule quickly and to work with me.
Avatar f tn All pretty minor annoyances in retrospect to many conditions..ovarian cysts, gallstones,,kidney stones, kidney infections, gastrointestinal issues, About 2 years ago, I began having crazy bad pain in my right side. I was hospitalized because my right kidney was swollen and a couple of stones. They found that there was a section of my ureter tube that was fused together, or dead or something, causing a kink in the ureter..had an exploratory to find the cause of the kink.
Avatar f tn i have groin pain, addo pain and pain in my back all on left side i also suffer from severe case of bile acid malabsorption, doctors think kidney stones awaiting ultra sound. im in agony.
Avatar n tn I've had pain in my left side and back (in the kidney area) for 6 months now. I've had CT scans, blood work, and an IVP and we've only come up with a 5mm nonobstructive stone in my left kidney. Both Urologists that I've seen said they don't think this is what's causing the pain...but I do. I also had a recurring UTI over the summer and I've never had one before. I'm 10 wks pregnant right now and not knowing what this pain is has been making me crazy.
Avatar f tn I guess I passed it because it settled off and the pain went away. Then when my baby was about 6 months old, I had one move in my other kidney. It was miserable again. After much running, walking, bouncing, and flooding my system with water, I finally passed it right before the urologist got his chance to fish it out! I was sooo relieved!
Avatar n tn If the stone is too large to pass easily, pain as well as blood may appear in the urine. Your symptoms highly suggest kidney stones but I recommend that you have this evaluated further by your doctor. Diagnosis is through an x ray or ultrasound. The results of these tests help determine the proper treatment. Furthermore, the chance of recurring stones is high. That is why it is also important to determine which type of stone is formed to prevent the formation.
Avatar f tn Had anyone had kidney stones? This is my 3rd child I'm 12+1 weeks.I'm healthy.but in the last 2 weeks I have had 4 kidney stones(on top of being really sick with"morning sickness"). Not kidding it IS worse than having a baby. MY ob said they don't effect the baby at all and pregnant women are more prone to getting them.had any body else had this problem.
Avatar f tn I am new to kidney stones. I passed my first kidney stone about 2 months ago and I know I have two more. A 2mm on one side and a 4 on the other side. The first one I had happened at night, so I woke up in pain. I am just wondering is there symptoms you can feel when you are awake. Just 4 days ago, I had 4 very sharp pains in the right side my back over a 2 hour period. Today I am hit with a wave of nausea.
Avatar n tn There are several things that could be responsible for your pain. The obvious given what you stated .... moving Kidney Stones! However if it is Kidney Stones be prepared for that pain to become extreme and possible send you to seek immediate medical attention. It's been several days since you posted how are you doing today? Again if it a kidney stone the pain can wax and wain as the stone moves and then can stop. If it's a very tiny stone, gravel..
Avatar n tn Hi, Hematuria or blood in the urine may be a symptom of recurrent kidney stones. Are there other signs or symptoms present? There is an increased chance of stone recurrence with patients with history of stone formation. A urinalysis and ultrasound of the KUB may be able to help with the diagnosis. It would be best to see your doctor for furtehr evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Causes for the formation of renal colic can be inadequate hydration, diet comprising of animal fats and too much calcium, infections, errors in metabolism which lead to accumulation of some salts preparing a ground for the formation of stones in the kidney, malfunctioning of the kidney etc. It is advised to get a ultrasound of abdomen done along with DMSA scan of both kidneys which would reveal the functioning capacity of the kidneys.
Avatar m tn I have had rounded grains of reddish-orange sand in my urine for over a year. It's painless and they are there in ones and threes, or dozens, hundreds at a time, about once every sixth or eighth time I urinate. The Urologist tells me they are not kidney stones, but at bladder stones, and common, but I can't find a single word about them on the internet (regarding humans). They seem to be mentioned in cats and perhaps goats, and remedied by changes in diet.
Avatar n tn Often blood in the urine can be from crystals (like kidney stones) that pass and irritate the lining of the bladder or ureter. Or infection as Michelle mentioned. Ovarian cancer is pretty quiet as far as symptoms go and blood in the urine is not one of the first things you would notice. Usually bloating, constipation, dull ache in the abdomen, vague things we as women tend to ignore.
