Avatar f tn Hyperparathyroidism is the number one cause of kidney stones. Every person with a kidney stone should be tested for a problem with their parathyroid glands. Nearly half of all people with kidney stones have a parathyroid tumor in their neck that must be removed or the kidney stones will return.
Avatar f tn Stones in the ureter, even if blocking on one side, do NOT cause swelling of the ankles etc. as long as you have a normal kidney on the other side. Certainly the pain your having could be from ureteral stones, and ureteroscopy is preferred in lower ureteral stones in child-bearing age women because lithotripsy may bruise the ovaries if used for lower ureteral stones. Infection is unlikely as infection and an obstructing stone usually leads to a high fever and is an emergency.
Avatar f tn I got my stones for the first time while pregnant. It was miserably painful! I guess I passed it because it settled off and the pain went away. Then when my baby was about 6 months old, I had one move in my other kidney. It was miserable again. After much running, walking, bouncing, and flooding my system with water, I finally passed it right before the urologist got his chance to fish it out! I was sooo relieved!
Avatar f tn It was only by accident that knew I had a kidney stone. I was sent for xrays for other reasons. My initial symptoms were pins and needles in my feet and puffiness under my eye (the opposite one to the kidney that had the stone). It took the medical profession months to find out what the matter was. But I knew I had a water work problem, because I went to reflexology and aromatherapy sessions and the reflexologist on examining me said that I had a waterworks problem.
Avatar f tn Had anyone had kidney stones? This is my 3rd child I'm 12+1 weeks.I'm healthy.but in the last 2 weeks I have had 4 kidney stones(on top of being really sick with"morning sickness"). Not kidding it IS worse than having a baby. MY ob said they don't effect the baby at all and pregnant women are more prone to getting them.had any body else had this problem.
Avatar f tn I am new to kidney stones. I passed my first kidney stone about 2 months ago and I know I have two more. A 2mm on one side and a 4 on the other side. The first one I had happened at night, so I woke up in pain. I am just wondering is there symptoms you can feel when you are awake. Just 4 days ago, I had 4 very sharp pains in the right side my back over a 2 hour period. Today I am hit with a wave of nausea.
Avatar f tn http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/kidney-stones/basics/risk-factors/con-20024829 This has helpful medical information that your doctor would be able to understand and discuss with you about more uncommon causes: http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/239278-overview. Its important to remember that kidney stones are not uncommon and are easily treatable if followed up on. The other conditions are clinically rare.
Avatar m tn you should do the renal ultrasound, sometimes kidney stones do give pain and other symptoms like nause. you can break stones with lithotripsy, or treat renal lithiasis with traditional Chinese medicine. You think it is wired pain on your right side, that could be the referred pain, or you have ever falled down recently or spend too much time sit on your chair for a long time? Did you ever find blood in your urine?
Avatar f tn I am having a lithroscopy to break up kidney stones a stent may have to be put in place in order that the stones can pass. I have read and heard how uncomfortable this can be and are there other options to having a stent put in place.
Avatar m tn Sorry about your 7mm kidney-stone... not fun for you! I have to assume that you're getting the stone "crushed" via ESWL (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy). Very safe & sound procedure that's well documented and has a very high success rate. The cyst on your ovary, unless it's in a 'fragile' spot, should be relatively easy to take care of with an Ovaria Cyst Decortication.
Avatar f tn I have a male friend who's been dealin w/ kidney stones for about a year quite now. He's on medi-cal in CA & he's not gettin anywhere w/ doctor's. He's been waitin for 1 mo. now for a referral to see a specialist & in the mean time his symptoms seems to be gettin more serious.
Avatar n tn These agents aren't known to cause kidney stones. Most kidney stones in the US are caused by our diet which is rich in meat protein. Calcium supplementation does increase the risk of kidney stones. As far as the blood pressure goes, he should probably have his dose of the lisinopril reduced. Alternatively, there are other agents such as calcium channel blockers, beta blockers or Angiotensine receptor blockers that can also be tried. I would probably avoid diuretics at this point.
Avatar n tn Hi, Renal calculi can vary in size from as small as grains of sand to as large as a golf ball. Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size before passage—on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters—they can cause obstruction of the ureter.
200198 tn?1259887597 they got worse until I ended up with a kidney stone at 24wks, and then 3 more at 33-35wks. Kidney stones are actually not all that rare for pregnant women, especially if you have a higher blood volume than most pregnant women (i.e. twins :) ) because your kidneys are being so overtaxed...apparently mine was caused by an extra large placenta, so I was pumping nearly double the blood and it affected my kidneys...Drink Lots and lots of water....
409451 tn?1206896632 s been there almost 2 months (no pain there). Went to ob/gyn for uti symptoms and gland, no bacteria found, but slight blood in urine. I always feel like I have a uti right before and during my period, and sometimes feel irritated "down there" after I pee--randomly throughout each month. I've also been bloated for about 2 months. (Also, my dad has aweful kidney stones) I was referred to urologist, he thinks it's endo, ordered ct scan, but I haven't had it yet...
Avatar f tn The treatment for kidney stones depends on their size and what they are made of and also if they are causing pain or obstructing the urinary tract. Small stones usually pass through the urinary tract without treatment. It is good advice to stay well hydrated as that should prevent the stones from getting any bigger or new ones from forming. For kidney pain you may take a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen .
997798 tn?1250089433 Hi. I have had stones for over 30 years and only over the past 5 years had the symptoms you describe. Is the stone exiting the right kidney? <<<<"along with the pain I now have on my right side" = FLANK PAIN. Please google it and see if it matches up to the pain on the side. Is this your first stone? You need to do 24 hour urines and have the stone analyized, VERY important. DRINK DRINK DRINK ALL THE WATER YOU POSSIBLY CAN FORCE IT.
Avatar n tn can kidney stones move in the body? Found an kidney stone on the right side now months later left side is tender and swollen an hot! right kidney stone never REMOVED!! now left side feels like it had the stone from the right side??????????? Is that possible???????
Avatar f tn UTI can also be due to the polycystic kidney disease as well. Kidney stones and kidney failure are late-stage symptoms of the disease. I suggest you an immediate urologist’s evaluation. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces. On the other hand, if the stone is quite big, then the surgical removal of the stone is a better option. Also her renal functions need to be studied.
