Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones symptoms elderly

Avatar n tn If you didn't have the spine imaged, you should talk to your doc as MS can show up there too. Hypothyroidism can certainly be a cause of your symptoms. Once treated adequately, your symptoms may improve. Another test that may be helpful is an EMG to see if this a problem of your peripheral nerves. Laboratory workup such as ANA, sed rate, blood count and electrolye profile can also help rule out other potential problems such as lupus and other rheumatological disorders.
Avatar f tn This is one of the most difficult things I've ever had to deal with. My beloved Gypsy is dying of kidney failure. Gypsy is a Jack Russell Terrier and she turned 18...yes 18...on Christmas Day. It's just so hard to know when it is "time." I prayed and prayed that she would give us one final parting gift and die on her own in her sleep...but she is SUCH a fighter and refused to surrender to this thing.

Physicians should advise patients, at the first sign of tendon pain, swelling, or inflammation, to stop taking the fluoroquinolone, to avoid exercise and use of the affected area, and to promptly contact their doctor about changing to a non-fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drug.
389797 tn?1200693362 Constant nagging abdominal pain ULQ whether I eat or don't, I also have anxiety, sweats (no fever), tremors, and lower back pain. Symptoms were occasional at first but are now almost daily. I wake up in a sweat (which seems different from a hot flash) and fell sick until I have a stool. First stool may be semi-solid, about an hour after eating throughout the day, stools are watery and yellow. I force myself to eat as I have NO appetite.
Avatar n tn The problem is sometimes those pregnancy symptoms are an awful lot like period symptoms (it's a bummer that nature works that way). But either way, I started having sore breasts and slight nausea within about a week or so after my IUI. The IUI worked and I did get pregnant... so although everyone is different, the symptoms started rather early for me. We'll cross our fingers for you and hopefully you'll have some good news in a week or so!
Avatar n tn Back in 2009 I had a a CT scan as a follow up on kidney stones. It showed, in addition to still having the kidney stones, I had an enlarged spleen. I recently found some lumps on the right side of my neck. Probably at least 3, possibly more. Should I be concerned about it being lymphoma? I am a 32 year old female.
242516 tn?1368227505 Join me to learn about the flu vaccine, antivirals, antibiotics, and alternative preventative measures such as humidifiers, saline drops and sprays, herbal supplements, and honey and find out whether these treatments are suitable for children, the elderly and other high-risk groups. This has been an unusual year in that the flu has been picking up in the last few weeks, and will last into early summer. The symptoms of influenza include cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and fever.
Avatar f tn I'm no vet, but she could maybe have a urinary tract infection or kidney stones? she might have the constant feeling that she has to go for a wee. get her checked out. it might be something simple and if its not, at least you will have caught it early.

Avatar m tn Recently I had a gout attack in my left ankle. Very painful, you need crutches to get around. Also kidney stones in my right kidney. Now the doctor says, in your case kidney failure is caused by a combination of Statins and Diuretics.
4943237 tn?1428994695 Yup, often there are times when the signal that I have to go gives me 2 seconds before it's all over. Sometimes I make it, sometimes I almost make it. The worst is when it happens in public. I have had times when the 'squeeze' muscles just don't work, and it's as if someone else or something else is in charge. I'm just a witness to the embarrassing thing that's happening but I can't control it at all. The only thing that works is using a schedule and going whether or not I have to.
Avatar n tn some people confuse a kidney infection with an urinary tract infection. just like a kidney infection it can also be painfull. Expecially when you will burn. The best way to refrane from getting urinary tract infections is to ALWAYS pee after sexual intercourse!! It keeps your tubes cleared out!!
242516 tn?1368227505 If your doctor knows that your own area is experiencing an outbreak of influenza, it may be reasonable to treat with antiviral drugs, especially if your temperature is more than 100 degrees and your symptoms have lasted less than 48 hours, and you don't have pneumonia. This is because antivirals won't help if given after 2 days of symptoms. They work by stopping the spread of the virus and if you take the antiviral too late, it's too late to stop the spread, it's already happened.
Avatar n tn Two years ago my wife was diagnosed with a severe gallstone problem. Her ultrasound showed lots of stones the size of hazel nuts. One look at the utlrasound pics her doctor lifted the phone to call the hospital to check my wife in for early surgery. My wife had been reading Dr Clark's book for some time. She told her med doctor to hold that call. She came home and put herself through two liver cleanses. The second one, we both counted the huge stones that came out in the toilet.
Avatar m tn Men don't seem to get UTI's as often as women and are most commonly caused by obstruction, kidney stones or an enlarged prostate. The antibiotic treatment is longer than that of women. Recurring infection is likely when the bacteria is not very sucseptible to antibiotic given. A urine specimen should always be tested for bacteria culture and sensitivity to ensure the right spectrum of antibiotic is used.
307401 tn?1194835748 That is a question that has been bothering me. I have had kidney stones in the past and I wonder how they would kill the severe pain from those(if one were to occur), without getting off of the sub ahead of time??
Avatar f tn it certainly doesn't cause the symptoms that you are describing. The description of symptoms you are describing would be for a patient in a terminal state of congestive heart failure and there is NO way that would, or could, have been missed by even a resident cardiology student, let alone a qualified cardiologist. Has anyone checked out her kidney function? Thyroid?
Avatar f tn It's VERY dangerous as it causes a slew of other issues including hypertension, kidney stones, kidney faulure amongst other things. Go there. Read.
Avatar f tn It took a ct scan and an ultrasound to find out I had stones. My GP explained that it is found often with mothers, the symptoms of a diseased gallbladder are the same, however, the pain is reflected onto the upper left quadrant of the abdomen. It's been almost two years post surgery and I haven't had to cope with that awful pain and nausea since. Don't let anyone tell you pain on your left side isn't your gallbladder because there is that chance.
Avatar m tn The reason they give is that the plant contains a high concentration of nucleic acids, substances related to DNA. When these are metabolized, they create uric acid, which could cause gout or kidney stones. This is of special concern to those who have already had uric acid stones or attacks of gout. The safety of spirulina in pregnant and nursing women, young children, and individuals with kidney or liver disease has not been determined.
Avatar m tn As I get occasional kidney well right sometimes left flank pain,it's most noticeable as coccyx pain rarely a pain happens when I sit making you feel you have to sit off angle to relieve it,but kidney stones could be a possibility and odd times inflames that area pointing me to think it's the tail bone but it's a effect of mild kidney stones,or as I am plastered in cysts a awkward turn moves a cyst against a nerve which gives an impression of the tail bone is the key problem like a plecebo effec
Avatar f tn As far as you not liking water try puting lots of lemon in it, if it does nothing else it will keep you from having kidney stones and diverticulitis. Hope you are having a good day. It's dinner time here in WV and my granddaughter needs her salad. She loves Salad and so do I. I will catch you later in the evening.
Avatar n tn I had my left kidney removed in 1997. I had sufferred from Kidney stones for years and often thought it was my kidney. As I got older and more familiar with my body i knew and the doctors knew it had nothing to do with my kidney. My Gallbladder has been checked and I have had numerous tests. At this point I just deal with it. Except today I decided to look once again on my own to see if i found anything new.
Avatar n tn First they thought it was a kidney stone becasue I also noticed pain in my groin and there was some blodd in my urine (but later they told me 0-3 whaich is completely normal). They took rxrays and then I was sent for an IVP. Apparently both showed no kidney stones. Next they sent me for a pelvic ultrasound (although the pain is not in my pelvis; it is higher up near my ribcage and navel and around into my back where it feels like a muscle spasm and sometimes up into my shoulder blade.
Avatar m tn Then after they repaired they through everything at me even though the pain was far less after repaired. I made the mistake of telling the Doctors years ago when I had Chronic Kidney Stones for over ten years that I think I had become addicted after the pain was gone once I had a lithotripsy.. Dear God that followed me to this day. The pain clinic I was afraid to complain about was taken over after the DEA was on them due to multiple deaths.
572651 tn?1531002957 Colds from hell, a few migraines one summer, kidney stones, whatever it is that brought me here, food poisoning at least twice, a bout with something they called "non-hepatitis hepatitis" (No, I did NOT make that up), and Lord only knows what else, but no flu.

Avatar n tn It's an urban myth...gallstones, unlike kidney stones can not be dissolved - and even if they could, you would NOT want the remnants of them "passing through" as this "flush" suggests would happen....the fragments or small stones would become trapped, possibly in the bile duct. This old wives' tale is at best useless and at worst dangerous...please don't even try it....
1035252 tn?1427231433 and I've had many kidney stones and passed several of those without pain meds..and I had a natural miscarriage in I have a good pain tolerance. oh yeah and I've now experienced the joy of ovarian cysts as well due to the hormones post-partum...but yeah..good pain tolerance, lol) on a scale of 1-10 they're always worse than 5...and sometimes they're 9 or 10s...every freaking day. it's getting rather old.
