Avatar n tn Am I going to continue rapidly developing stones for the rest of my life? How painful will the removal of my stent be? How do they remove the stent?
Avatar n tn Hello, This pain can be related to the kidney stones. Kidney stones are of four types: calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. I would suggest you to get an evaluation done from a urologist to determine the type of stone. Treatment modes include Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneoud nephrolithotomy. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn If you can retrieve the stone, it can be analyzed as to its composition - like calcium. My mom was plagued with kidney stones when she started taking calcium supplements in middle age. Once she stopped taking it, no more stones. Everyone is different though. Knowing what the stone is made of can help you make dietary changes to prevent new ones from forming. If you don't have pain and discomfort, you'll probably just have to drink water and wait.
Avatar n tn The complications include gas bloat syndrome, dysphagia, dumping syndrome , excessive scarring, vagus nerve injury, and sometimes achalasia. It is not known that it can cause kidney stones. The location and shape of the kidney stone is important in determining whether it will be removed on its own or need surgical removal. A kidney stone can cause repeated infections so you will need to see your doctor to check your urine for infections and be treated with antibiotics.
Avatar f tn UTI can also be due to the polycystic kidney disease as well. Kidney stones and kidney failure are late-stage symptoms of the disease. I suggest you an immediate urologist’s evaluation. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces. On the other hand, if the stone is quite big, then the surgical removal of the stone is a better option. Also her renal functions need to be studied.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I went into the ER, l was having horrible pain on my right side right under my rib. They did a cat scan and xray and told me that I have tw kidney stones one in each kidney. I still have no pain on my right side and am wondering if I ever will or if it will just disappear? Secondly the pain on my left side got worse over night, it has moved down a little and wrapped around to my back. The pain is bearable and then out of nowhere unbearable and worse in my back.

Avatar f tn It's been three weeks since my diagnosis of having multiple kidney stones on the right side. The Radiologist who gave me my stat results said I would pass them and didnt think straining my urine was something I needed to do. I finally got in to see my urologist he was upset I wasn't straining and wanted me to have surgery since I will be undergoing IVF treatments in March. I agreed because I don't want to deal with flare up while pregnant.

Avatar n tn Hello, A man can have sex after having kidney stones. But if kidney stone removal has been done by stent placement then stents with a thread may significantly hinder sex. The stent also can rest on the prostate gland in men and with ejaculation/orgasm the prostate may have movement that is discomforting to the patient and similar to severe cramping or irritation. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Avatar f tn Dave, I have suffered for many years with kidney stones myself (35 plus years and at least 35 plus stones). I had surgery for stone removal about 35 years ago and then didn't need surgery again until just the Spring of 2015. Those are the only two times that I have had to have stones removed and have stents. The other many times during all those years, the stones have passed on their own, sometimes multiple stones at once.

Avatar f tn I recently discovered I had kidney stones....and now, tomorrow, I am having my second lithotripsy, as the first one did not work. How long do they keep these miserable, stents in, and how many times can one get lithotripsies? Does surgery come next if the lithotripsies don't work? It's funny---I am a nurse, and have been for many, many years, but don't know these answers. I work full time, yet, and this stent is making my life very difficult.

Avatar f tn Hi I'm asking this for my mother. She was diagnosed with kidney stones around 2 years back and straight after had the surgery to have them removed. Afterwards she noticed her stomach had somehow 'inflated' and now it is 3 times the size it was before the surgery. The doctor she had seen about this hasn't really helped so i'd like to know the reasons why this could have happened and if possible are there any ways she could treat this?

I have been doing reserach on the Parathyroid and have read that there may be a correlation with kindey stones and thyroid issues. Any feedback or websites would be very helpful!
