Avatar f tn I'm 17 days until my due date, and I've been struggling with kidney stones for 5-6 weeks. My doctor has offered to induce me at 39 weeks because she thinks I need evaluated, but they can't do much while I'm pregnant. Has anyone else struggled with kidney stones? Does anyone have any tips for relief until I deliver? I don't particularly want to induce, but I need some relief!
Avatar f tn It's been three weeks since my diagnosis of having multiple kidney stones on the right side. The Radiologist who gave me my stat results said I would pass them and didnt think straining my urine was something I needed to do. I finally got in to see my urologist he was upset I wasn't straining and wanted me to have surgery since I will be undergoing IVF treatments in March. I agreed because I don't want to deal with flare up while pregnant.

Kidney stones are more likely to occur if you make less than 1 liter of urine a day. That's slightly more than a quart. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001493/ I have had chronic kidney stones since my early 20's so I am familiar with the pain involved, not very pleasent.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones almost 3 years ago but I did not get them removed as my Dr told me they could not kill me or cause any life threatening diseases, but recentley I have noticed a little bit of stomach discomfort, I would like to say pain but it doesnt hurt , it kind of feels like something is there like gas, and my stomach gurgles a little bit and once in a while I will feel a little bit of a slight pinching pain in different spots over my belly , it feels like its through the b
Avatar f tn I'm not a doctor, but do have too much experience with kidney stones. For me, I'd get pings and pangs in my kidney as well as microhematuria (blood you cannot see by eye) in my urine when I have stones. I've also had the flank pain you describe .. for me it's been in the lower back. I hope with lots of water your stones move out for you uneveventfully. Please keep in touch. From what I've read stones <5.0mm usually move out on their own with a high % of non-complications, etc.
1278097 tn?1325615097 Stock yourself up on pain meds I always have a stock of Litalgin just in case. Litalgin is a great pain med and is meant for gallstone and kidney stone pain. Thats all that I can tell you, walk walk walk and pain relief.
Avatar f tn HI, I was diagnosed with mskd in the year 2000, and was told my kidney was completely filled with stones. I then was dropped into a tank of water where they blasted the stones. For 12 straight days I past stones it would happen during the night mainly. It was traumatizing, I filled half of the jar they gave me to collect them in. I've had alot of lithotripsys since then. I still have a little less than half that have not past. I am tired and I don't want to do this anymore.
Avatar f tn Bed rest, hydration, analgesia, stent placement, percutaneous nephrostomy are the possible options. The size of stones, position of stones and your general health condition will help in deciding the exact treatment for you. Hope it helps. Take care and good luck!
Avatar f tn Urologist performed cystocopy (normal), ultrasound (normal with R kidney hydronephrosis), CT scan showed no hydronephrosis but two 2mm non obstructing LEFT kidney stones. I keep having symptoms of what feels like uti that subsides with drinking a lot of water. Macrobid removes all symptoms while i'm on it but they return 2 days after I stop taking them. I don't have any other symptoms, the pain I usually feel is bladder discomfort and pain in urethra, some burning and urgency.
Avatar f tn I'm so sorry that he is having this much discomfort form his Post-op Kidney Stones. I've never had Kidney Stones. However, if they made an incision of any kind, chances are that he isn't supposed to be in a bath tub. Usually they aren't allowed to get that area wet. PLEASE don't laugh TOO loudly at me IF there is no incision as I must emphasize that I DON'T havae a clue as to how they are removed.
Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Kidney stones usually pass out through the urine stream with in 48hours. But this depends upon the size of the stone. A 4mm stone has 80% chances of coming out spontaneously, where as 5mm stone has 20% chances. Stones more than this size usually require treatment. Medical management includes calcium channel blockers, alpha blockers etc. Surgical treatment involves shock wave lithotripsy or percutaneous nephrolithotomy or open surgery.
106886 tn?1281295172 Just responding to a nice message I got regarding my spouse and his horrible, icky, painful Kidney Stones. Hi Marty, Thanks for the suggestion on pain relief. I had forgotten all about that drug. That's a name from the past, huh? He has Percocet and another drug and he has chosen not to take the Percocet (for me it is constipating and gives me bad headaches, so I might have talked him out of it). He is asleep right now from the drugs actually.
Avatar n tn What a relief! I have a major history with kidney stones but have been unable to go back to my urologist for the last eight years due to no insurance. During the last couple of years I had noticed a correlation between bowel irregularities and flank pain. Now, for the last three days I have had intermittent spells of severe kidney pain, nausea, some vomitting, and severe diarrhea.
409451 tn?1206900232 I've also been bloated for about 2 months. (Also, my dad has aweful kidney stones) I was referred to urologist, he thinks it's endo, ordered ct scan, but I haven't had it yet...does anyone have any suggestions or similar issues, I'm feeling really lost and confused!!??
Avatar n tn I've had cysteine kidney stones since I was 16, am now 23. I am also 9 weeks pregnant and I know while pregnant they can't do surgery. But, I have like 5-6 stones in my left side and my right side has some obstruction here lately I've been having a lot of pain, had worse, but still hurts. Monkey Cause of pelvic pain could be due to kidney stones, pelvic infections, urine infections, twisted ovarian cyst or rupture of ovarian cyst, appendicitis or any other referred pain due to other organ infections. Most of them may not show up on ultrasound. So get all these causes evaluated from a gynecologist to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar n tn Your doctor should have prescribed you with pain relief for the discomfort of the kidney stone. You may pass it out naturally, but it will hurt as it travels down. The stone can be a very small grain or larger. When you urinate, catch the urine into a recepticle so that you can observe if the stone has come out or not. It may come out like sediment and this can happen until the stone has passed.
Avatar f tn I am a 60 yr old female with extensive history of kidney stones since 1978 (before lithotrypsy), recurrent infections & blood in urine. I am prone to both calcium stones & uric acid stones. First kidney stone was size of a walnut & could not pass so was removed by actual surgery. Over the yrs I experienced more stones that would not pass so more surgeries. Have developed scar tissue in both ureters & have had 2 stents. Extreme pain so stent removal.
342647 tn?1291111533 I suffer from kidney stones... they suck, but I have a high pain tolerance and opt not to take anything. Yes, they hurt... but if you think about how the pain won't last forever, it helps. And, the stones would have to be pretty large for them to cause kidney damage. Just so you know, most of the time kidney stones resolve themselves. They will break down in the kidneys and most of the time you won't even know you are passing them.
Avatar m tn I had a CT scan in October (which detected kidney stones) I have had two u/s - one in April and one in July to check for stones. (Stones were the only thing seen). I have had two flat panel x-rays (June/July) prior to each lithotripsy to locate stones. (Stones were the only thing seen). All other tests from my physical are normal. I have an appointment with my PCP next week. I am going to mention endometriosis.
Avatar f tn Just found out that I have kidney stones again!!! And this time, I am going to need your support, because I am DETERMINED to get through this without narcotic pain meds. I am only 26, but have had kidney stones three time, including this time. It's excruciating. Yesterday, I started feeling pain in my lower back, and pain when peeing, and it got so severe that my husband had to bring me to the hospital. I told them I thought it was prob kidney stones, and sure enough, it is. GREAT.
1301089 tn?1290670171 I know this probably isn't the best forum for this but I know all of you and trust you. Also, others have posted about kidney stones here in the past. I have a terrible pain on my right flank. I wake up with it and it only gets worse as the day wears on. It is going on a week now. I've been more nauseated than usual. I also have more severe pain in the bladder and groin area. My Lortab aren't even touching this. I am still on my feet but just barely.. I drink lots of water.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone... Okay,so for the 7th time this year I have kidney stones again - I am a 20yr old female (and I live a healthy life) ... Doc put a stent in my right ureter cause my kidney is PACKED with stones! I had a UTI but that was treated in hospital when the stent was inserted... I am battling with my period, its like it just ran away or something... Can it just disappear? Like for 2months or longer?
Avatar f tn Since there are several posts on Kidney stones, Id like to share my research results that could possibly afford relief to kidney stone sufferers. I am a recently retired ICU RN and I did not realize until now how important Magnesium is in our lives. Its important to know whats the right kind to take as well. This knowledge could help so many people out there .. if they only knew so I wanted to help spread the word......
Avatar n tn An utra sound found nothing unusual. The urologist thinks it is either kidney stones or the residual effects of a bad infection. He would like me to get a CT. I am concerned as I have had 3 CT scans after a PE in both lungs 2 years ago after delivery. What are your thoughts? He does not think it is IC because it came on so suddenly. He said that the urine cultures were tainted due to the antibiotics. I can go 2-3.5 hours between void but I am holding it. What are your thoughts?
Avatar n tn Vitamin A (not betacarotene) promotes healthy functioning of the urinary tract. People who are low in it sometimes form kidney stones more easily than others. You can get vitamin A in most good general multiple vitamin and mineral supplements. Magnesium helps the body dissolve calcium if you’re deficient in this it can cause calcium to accumulate into deposits, which increases your risk of forming kidney stones.
Avatar m tn I have been hospitalized for passing kidney stones twice and have ten stones in the left kidney and two in the right. The doctors tell me I should not be experiencing pain from them until they pass. It always feels like I am passing.
