Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones laser surgery

Avatar f tn I have to call tomorrow to see what the next step will be. I had the laser surgery last time and it is the most degrading surgery i have ever had. When it was painful it was like a knife in my back straight through the abdomen with increased pressure 'down there'.
Avatar f tn I feel for you dear! I before pregnancy is prone to kidney stones...which puts me s high risk! I know kidney stones are painful enough but to add pregnancy on top of it...its so much worse! I do hope the best for you and a fast recovery!
Avatar m tn Well the gall bladder hmmm I am not sure. The right kidney 7mm... where is it located? The 5mm in the distal ureter can be removed via cystscope easy procedure.. no biggie. Ok to go with meds you need to analyize the stone to find the composition and possibly meds. You are not in need of open surgery called a "PERC" you are not a canadite for open. Please at all costs try to avoid the laser as this will leave much dust and fragments that will than make even more stones.
1028300 tn?1252093974 I have kidney stones and will have to have a stint put in and changed every month. The Dr. said that I could have Kidney failure or contractions if I don't have the stint put in, but I've heard the stint is very painful, sometimes more painful than just having the kidney stone! He sent me home with phenegran and demerol, and said this would not hurt the baby. Does anyone have any experience/knowledge about kidney stones while pregnant?
Avatar m tn If you are referring to Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) , a minimally invasive endoscopic procedure, this is used to treat enlarged prostate BPH that is causing obstruction. Kidney and bladder stones are usually removed through lithotrpsy or litholaplaxy, It is best that you discuss this with your attending physician also for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn As far as I know, these are the only treatments - "Watchful waiting About 85 percent of the time, kidney stones are small enough to pass during urination. This occurs usually within 72 hours of the start of symptoms. The best treatment for these small stones is to drink plenty of water (as much as 2 to 3 quarts per day), stay physically active and wait to pass the stone.
106886 tn?1281295172 Since I post an off-topic topic (is there such a phrase?) about once every 3 years, please bear with me. Just responding to a nice message I got regarding my spouse and his horrible, icky, painful Kidney Stones. Hi Marty, Thanks for the suggestion on pain relief. I had forgotten all about that drug. That's a name from the past, huh?
Avatar f tn I am a 60 yr old female with extensive history of kidney stones since 1978 (before lithotrypsy), recurrent infections & blood in urine. I am prone to both calcium stones & uric acid stones. First kidney stone was size of a walnut & could not pass so was removed by actual surgery. Over the yrs I experienced more stones that would not pass so more surgeries. Have developed scar tissue in both ureters & have had 2 stents. Extreme pain so stent removal.
Avatar f tn The urologist told him that he shouldn't be in pain as the stones are all still in the kidney and he doesn't want to do surgery since the last surgery went so poorly so basically shrugged us off with no game plan. He of course doesn't want to prescribe pain killers either as he 'doesn't see a reason' for the pain. This was last Friday, Saturday my husband felt a stone on the move and felt it move into the bladder and then passed a 4 mm stone Sunday morning.
Avatar f tn I had a kidney stone lodged in my urinary track and they did surgery with a laser and inserted a stent it caused me such pain after a week the doctor attempted to remove it and it was stuck so he left it in and the following day he did another surgery to remove it he said my bladder needs a mesh sling question is it has been a lil over 3 weeks and i am ...

2081455 tn?1332179587 I have been passing kidney stones since 2006. I recently saw a Urologist in November of 2011. I was told I had 2 large stones in my left kidney and a few small ones in my right kidney. I went to the Urologist because I had been experiencing terrible pain in my left kidney. In December I had my left kidney cleaned out by laser through the urethra. It took over 3 weeks to recover and it was the most terrible pain I have ever felt. They did not put a stent in.
Avatar n tn The gall bladder demonstrates numerous echogenic foci with distal shadowing consistent with gall stones. Spleen and kidneys normal. I had CBC, liver enzynmes, amalyse all within normal range. Urine nornal. My doctor suggest getting my gall bladder removed. I still have discomfort but has improved . The discomfort was much worse during the severe nausea. I have been having mild nausea since the episode 10 days ago. I don't eat fatty foods. I have been a vegetarian for 20 years.
Avatar n tn Small stones do not need to be treated and will be passed in the urine if you ensure good fluid intake so that it is passed out. Bigger stones will need other forms of treatment like surgery, lithotripsy, shock wave therapy etc.
Avatar f tn It also resulted in a week long stay in the hospital for massive internal bleeding on my right kidney and yet another laser surgery. My right kidney is now deformed (shaped like a horseshoe). Fast forward to June of this year and I have undergone 2 more lithotripsies (possibly will need a 3rd one - will find out next week), and currently have bilateral stints which are painful enough on their own.
Avatar m tn Later I learned that somehow it is not that easy as we would assume to open the kidney and look for stones inside. Plus 2 weeks after my surgery I was producing stones and sand in my kidney (the only one left). It is too soon for any type of surgery and I would not think you are ready for that.
Avatar m tn First off, many of the herbs and supplements suggested for kidney stones, at best, may aid in urine flow to some degree, but there is no plant or vitamin that can MELT kidney stones, because all stones are made with varying amounts of CALCIUM, which cannot be dissolved without risking losing other things made of calcium such as bones and teeth! Only Uric acid stones have the least amount of calcium content and therefore CAN be reduced in size through medication.
Avatar f tn My father has kidney stones in both kidneys. He has undergone both laser surgery as well as actual removal surgery to take care of the bulk of them. As of his last ultrasounds/x-rays, there are still stones present, but they have not been causing any problems. As of yesterday, he has been presenting with blood in the urine. Is it likely that the stones could be causing this blood, even without pain?
Avatar n tn I have been reading many message boards and feel am self educated about kidney stones by my own body. Each kidney stone is unique in severity of pain. The bigger ones don't always have bigger pain. The largest I have passed was5 ml. I just dont know what to do anymore. Im tired of passing them, tired of being in pain, tired of missing work and could be in danger of loosing my job. The painkillers are great , but takes a day or so to get back into functioning mode after taking them.
Avatar n tn Ugh on the stones. sorry to hear this C~ My Vit D was 9 !
Avatar n tn my husband just had surgery on Monday .laser procedure was done several stones were into several pieces but while the procedure was taken place the ureter took a hole and started a lick with urine so the doctor stopped and left the stent without the string .My husband could not tolerate the pain so was taken to emergency. He was admitted and has been urinating with blood. very much discomfort on the kidney and has not eaten since Sunday at midnight.
Avatar f tn Im71 with 50 years of stones .multiple laser lithotripsy surgeries. Passed as many as 9 at one time. Having surgery 1/21/12 fr stones stuck on both sides.
2175150 tn?1337463379 Hi there! Well, without a clinical evaluation it would be difficult to determine the cause of your symptoms. Possibilities that may need to be considered include infections, inflammations trauma, erosions, growths/ masses, neuro-muscular issues etc. With clear usine tests, infections are almost ruled out while inflammation is a high possibility following a surgery, which is likely to settle with time; while other causes would also need to be considered.
Avatar m tn These substances can create small crystals that become stones. The biggest risk factor for kidney stones is dehydration. Kidney stones may not produce symptoms until they begin to move down the tubes (ureters) through which urine empties into the bladder. When this happens, the stones can block the flow of urine out of the kidneys. This causes swelling of the kidney or kidneys, causing pain. The pain is usually severe. Kidney stones are common.
Avatar m tn I have had kidney stones for about 5 years and I have been to the ER and doctors at times due to intense pain that at times cripples me because im not able to move. The doctors say that the stones are about 2mm and will eventually pass but I still have them after 5 years. I was prescribed vicodin for the pain but those have huge side effects on me. I suggest to them about having surgery either laser or the sonar that breaks them up but they say no.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with kidney stones at age 33 (I'm not 35) and had 16 stones over 3mm in both kidneys. After ending up in the ER thinking I was dying, I was sent home with a diagnosis of prostatitis (looking back I had tell-tale kidney stone symptoms!). Imagine an ER doc telling you he has to check your prostate when you are in excruciating kidney stone pain!
Avatar n tn In Jan 2008, I had been diagnosed with a couple of kidney stones. I was having severe abdominal pain, nausea, etc. I went in for a lithotripsy procedure in Feb 08. That didn't work. I didn't pass any stones. In March 2008, I had left nephrolithiasis and lithotripsy again. In March, I had a left ureterscopy with laser infundibulotomy (1cm stone). It seemed to have worked until March 2009. What seemed to be a UTI, turned out to be another couple of stones.
