Avatar n tn This may help show any structural abnormalities ( adhesions, strictures ) or even stones in the urinary tract. Some stones ( cystine stones ) may not be readily detected in plain radiographs. A Ct scan may also rule out involvement of other structures that may case the pain ( gastrointestinal structures). Discuss this with your physician as well as your need for pain management. I hope this helps.

Avatar f tn As you have had/still have calcium oxalate stones, your risk of getting more kidney stones is much increased. Avoid the foods mentioned and browse the web for more information on oxalate rich foods that you should avoid or eat less of. It is also very important to always stay well hydrated. Your urologist may have advised you to drink 2 litres of fluids (4 pints) during the day, more if you are doing exercises that make you sweat or perspiring in hot weather.
Avatar m tn Antioxidants reduce the amount of inflammation in your body, which helps the kidneys function properly. The potassium in cauliflower is known to prevent kidney stones. Kidney stones can lead to kidney infections and eventually chronic kidney disease. Eat cauliflower raw with a hummus dip or steam it with a squeeze of lemon. Cauliflower is also delicious smashed with low fat sour cream and fresh parsley.

1017213 tn?1301774873 Hi All, Have any of you experienced any connection between your thyroid and kidney and/or bladder issues? I have had kidney stones both times my thyroid went really out of whack...once when I was first diagnosed as being hyper and once when I went hypo after RAI. My doctor says there isn't any research indicating that kidney and thyroid problems are related, but I just don't buy the coincidence.
Avatar f tn I have been struggling for the past several years with 7 kidney stones. I have successfully passed 4 of them to be told there are 5 more to go and a kidney cyst to boot! Not to worry, just continue on like nothings wong. I have to be so careful with what I eat, or I am visting the bathroom the entire night. Most everything upsets my stomach or causes serve cramping. What should I do from here? I am only 38 it sure has been ALONG 2 yrs...What has caused the cyst?
Avatar n tn And honestly percocet and dilaudid both carry the same risks (although really the biggest risk is the baby being born dependent and since you're only 14wks that's really not an issue unless you continue to have kidney stones throughout the pregnancy like I did with my firstborn). But truly pain medicine under the care of a doctor can be done quite safely. The bigger concern is your kidney function while you're.
7019649 tn?1396796117 I'm on my last day of antibiotics, and they didn't clear up my symptoms. I have a history of kidney stones, and I'm afraid that's what is going on again. Anybody have any experiences with kidney stones during pregnancy? What did you do for them?
Avatar f tn It's only considered pre-existing if you have been treated for an ongoing problem with your kidney. Individual kidney stones cannot be considered pre-existing. Get a ct scan from a doctor then talk to a urologist if it is a kidney stone. I was born with a condition that causes my body to create kidney stones. I have been to the emergency room 4 or 5 times in the past 18 years for the large stones, small ones pass ok.
Avatar f tn Has she had a CT Scan w/o contrast in regard to the stones? What has it shown? I have an uncommon kidney condition called MSK (Medullary Sponge Kidney) along with having had out 1/2 my thryoid bcz of nodules that were atpical but my parathyroids were fine and all tests were A-OK that both my Uro and Endo have run inc. a 24hr urine test. Has your daughter had a 24hr urine test? That is important too.
Avatar n tn I am 21 weeks pregnant and went to the hospital a few days ago in severe pain. Ultrasound revealed that I had water around my kidney and a blockage, which was caused by a kidney stone. I was given an epidural and a stent was inserted, which alleviated my immediate pain. I am now home, and the stent is very uncomfortable; I cannot do any activities because of the pinching and aching it is causing me. I was not given any pain medication or was even told what to expect.
Avatar n tn Kidney function levels were all normal. All they found were the 3 small kidney stones. If they are still in my kidneys, what could cause so much abdomen pressure, pain and bloating? I hope to get in w/ the urologist this week. If so, I will post test results. I just don't understand the lower abdominal pain/pressure which I have had for over a month.
Avatar f tn No i don't have any other pain conditions. Just stones and kidney infections as a result of the stones. I take antibiotics about 2 weeks out of every month to keep the constant infections at bay which i can't imagine is good. Im assuming he refferred me to the pain mgmt dr because he's afraid of prescribing pain meds on such a regular basis. I can understand it but its still not easy for me because I'm uninsured and can't really afford to add another dr to the mix.
Avatar n tn I suffer from what is called Polycystic Kidney Disease (google it) which causes chronic kidney stones. Many people have this disease with no signs until they are much olde. When their kidneys begin to fail them. Diarrhea is related because when the stone is stuck in the ureter ( the tube leading down to your bladder from your kidney) this sends a message to your entire digestive tract to stop.
Avatar n tn I am 31 year old female and diagnosed with Hypothyroid when i was 20 and Hashimotos about 5 years ago. This past April I began to suffer from kidney stones and had surgery for removal. Just six months later I am experiencing some pain in my kidneys again. I have been doing reserach on the Parathyroid and have read that there may be a correlation with kindey stones and thyroid issues. Any feedback or websites would be very helpful!
Avatar m tn I am a 24 yr old who has suffered from kidney problems for almost 5 years, 2 surgerys a UPJ obstruction multiple stents. Stones I now have high blood pressure and multiple stones. because of the back pain from hydronephrosis i have been prescribed norco 10 325 on and off for about a year. i am about to start a new job at a hospital, i do not want them to know that i have these kidney problems because i feel it could hurt my chances at the job.
Avatar f tn The urologist hasn't ran any tests since the last eswl nightmare to determine why he keeps having left kidney pain, any kidney function tests, any plan as to how to handle the next surgeries or anything. Sorry to sound so bitter, but this is such a frustrating process. Not only does he have to deal with the physical ups and downs for each stone but then to have such a hard time finding a cause/treatment plan just makes it almost unbareable.
Avatar n tn He sent me for a CT scan to check for kidney stones and this came back normal and no signs of infection were found in the urine. I am supposed to go back in a week for another urinalysis to check for blood. Since I saw the doctor, I have been passing white pieces of tissue in my urine intermittently. These range in size from a speck to about the size of a dime. They are white, except for one was pink and white. I am not on my period, but it is due in the next week or so.
Avatar m tn If gone untreated over a time period such as mine, can stones lead to kidney failure? Any knowledge of this subject would be much appreciated.
Avatar m tn Some doctors also recommend Tamsulosin to speed the passage of stones Lithotripsy is a good option for stones 1 cm or less in the kidney and upper ureter. Simple kidney cysts usually do not affect kidney function, but if it is causing symptoms or blocking the flow of blood or urine through the kidney it may need to be treated .Without knowing a detailed medical history it may be difficult to determine whether the cyst is causing stones. It is best to discuss your concerns with a nephrologist.
Avatar n tn Hello, Having stones in kidneys is called nephrolithiasis. If kidney stones are not removed then they can cause decrease or loss of function in the affected kidneys, kidney damage or scarring, obstruction of the ureter, recurrence of stones and urinary tract infection. Hence they should be treated at the earliest. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn Hi, what I understood from your post is that you are having kidney stone along with gall stones and may be associated kidney swelling. Please write full report of CT scan. Also please mention the symptoms you are facing. Big stones are usually surgically removed but what is important to find out renal compromise if any. Please get kidney function tests done. Gall bladder stones are surgically removed too. Cholecystectomy (removal of gall bladder) is the treatment of choice.
