Avatar m tn OVER THE YEARS I HAVE FORMED STONES LIKE CRAZY, I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT WHEN THE STONES PASS IN THE URETERS IT IS QUITE PAINFULL, BUT WHILE THEY ARE STILL IN THE KIDNEYS, (AT LEAST MINE) THEY STILL HURT AND GIVE ME CHRONIC PAIN. I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF SOME PHYSICIANS WHO SWEAR UP AND DOWN THAT IT ISNT SUPPOSED TO HURT WHILE THEY ARE IN THE KIDNEYS. DOCTORS IN ER JUST THINK I AM ANOTHER FREQUENT FLYER AND DRUG SHOPPER.

Avatar m tn Woke up in the middle of the night with a pain in my lower left side. Turns out after the vomiting and discomfort that I had developed a Kidney Stone (a pain I would not wish on some of my worst enemies). What's scary is this is the third October in a row where something has affected me healthwise.

1619332 tn?1299021545 Well they saw that 1 of the 2 stones still in my right kidney was 5 millimeters and my Urologist said in the ER room that he did not think I would be able to pass that, so he was going to make me a follow up appointment and talk with me about shockwave treatment (blasting the stones). Also he wanted me to catch this stone I was about to pass so that they could test it. Well I caught the stone and took it to their office and went to my follow up appointment only for him to not tell me anything!

Avatar n tn I had an xray done and they found that I have 2 kidnet stones that are found to be in the kidney still. They say that the stones are on the left side. Now recently it hurts all over in my abdomin and into my back. If the stones have moved is this something that is part of the process? The doctors arent in until Tues. and I am just praying that this holds off until then. I was suppose to have them broke up but she thought I could wait. What does it sound like?
Avatar m tn What you are experiencing is normal. Generally you feel the pain as the stone goes from the kidney, through the ureter, to the bladder. While it just kind of hangs out in the bladder, it causes your bladder to spasm a bit making you feel like you really need to go even though there is not much urine in there. I know it is difficult to do, but try to drink a whole lot of fluid and wait quite awhile before going to the bathroom. Use force when you do go to the bathroom.
Avatar n tn Hi, Renal calculi can vary in size from as small as grains of sand to as large as a golf ball. Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size before passage—on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters—they can cause obstruction of the ureter.
Avatar n tn i had two very lage stones in my right kidney. and it caused the top of my kidney to swell from blokage. they did a lithotripsy and ive ben disabled ever sinse the lithotripsy damaged the renin producing glands near the kidney. they say a litho tripsy is perfectly safe. but its not. if you choose to take care of these stones manualy i recomend you do the telescope method. its a littel more invasive but its not as hard on your body.
Avatar n tn Roughly a year ago I was in the urologists office because of a similar sized stone in my right kidney. When I was x-rayed for the stone in my right kidney, there was no stone in my left kidney. My questions are: Am I going to continue rapidly developing stones for the rest of my life? How painful will the removal of my stent be? How do they remove the stent?
Avatar m tn Sand is the precursor to kidney stones usually. Yes, if it sits in the bladder it can be prone to infection .. even on the way out if it is infected it can cause an infection in the bladder or anywhere along the UTI tract. What are your urine tests showing? Are there cyrstals of stones, has an ultrasound or CT scan showed sand? Welcome to MSK ... I see you've posted on Uro too .. they may have some answers there, too, for you.
Avatar n tn It is usually indicated for the treatment of an enlarged prostate. It an also be given in managing kidney stones in men and not as effective in women. It is best that you have your kidney stones checked by your doctor for proper management. Drinking plenty of fluids may also help. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Stones in the ureter, even if blocking on one side, do NOT cause swelling of the ankles etc. as long as you have a normal kidney on the other side. Certainly the pain your having could be from ureteral stones, and ureteroscopy is preferred in lower ureteral stones in child-bearing age women because lithotripsy may bruise the ovaries if used for lower ureteral stones. Infection is unlikely as infection and an obstructing stone usually leads to a high fever and is an emergency.
Avatar f tn If the stone is too large to pass easily, pain continues as the muscles in the wall of the narrow ureter try to squeeze the stone into the bladder. As the stone moves and the body tries to push it out, blood may appear in the urine, making the urine reddish. As the stone moves down the ureter, closer to the bladder, a person may feel the need to urinate more often or feel a burning sensation during urination.

Avatar n tn This may help show any structural abnormalities ( adhesions, strictures ) or even stones in the urinary tract. Some stones ( cystine stones ) may not be readily detected in plain radiographs. A Ct scan may also rule out involvement of other structures that may case the pain ( gastrointestinal structures). Discuss this with your physician as well as your need for pain management. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn The pain could be new stones or due to stones passed down from the kidney. If they are radio opaque they can be picked up by X rays. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn scheduled for urteroscopy in a week to remove a stone 1.2cm lodged in uretha Is this the only option??
Avatar m tn Hi, If your kidneys are functioning normally, then you should not retain water and excessive consumption of water should not result in weight gain and thus I’ll suggest you to consult a physician for the same and seek an opinion. You might need to undergo the kidney function tests to ensure that your kidneys are functioning properly. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.

895634 tn?1283992810 Kidney stone often is hereditary so you should ask if any relatives also had kidney stones. Taking pain killers for the pain is not the proper treatment for kidney stones. Taking a pain killer to avoid the pain is not good medicine. It is masking the underlying condition which can be a serious one. A hepatologist is not an expert in kidney disease. They should refer you to a Urologist. A Urologist specializes in diseases and conditions of the kidneys and urinary track.
Avatar n tn Until your kidney stones and the UPJ obstruction are treated, you may require the stent in for a long time to prevent obstruction of that kidney. There are different forms of treatment for stones including shock wave therapy (Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy, or ESWL), percutaneous removal of stones under endoscopic guidance, alkalinzation of the urine, and stone basketing. The UPJ obstruction can likewise be surgically corrected.
Avatar n tn The complications include gas bloat syndrome, dysphagia, dumping syndrome , excessive scarring, vagus nerve injury, and sometimes achalasia. It is not known that it can cause kidney stones. The location and shape of the kidney stone is important in determining whether it will be removed on its own or need surgical removal. A kidney stone can cause repeated infections so you will need to see your doctor to check your urine for infections and be treated with antibiotics.
