Hematuria or blood in the urine may be a symptom of recurrent kidney stones. Are there other signs or symptoms present? There is an increased chance of stone recurrence with patients with history of stone formation. A urinalysis and ultrasound of the KUB may be able to help with the diagnosis. My BP has been taken many times--and has always been normal--124/80, 120/76. Around there.
I mean, the doc has mentioned that a stone could cause this kind of pain, but the CT and ultrasound didn't see anything. He did mention that it could cause pain for a while after it passed, but I don't remember any discomfort while urinating. Also, so far as I know my kidney function was normal on the blood tests.
That said, I do drink a lot of sugary drinks--including soda.
I have had 3 bouts with kidney stones in the past. Each time the symptoms are different.
First time was the excruciating consistent pain for about 5 hours resulting in a stone being passed.
Second time was off and on pain, but pain was mild in comparison to the first, resulting in a stone being passed days later which looked completely different then the last one.

I just wandered if anyone has had kidney stones or bladder stones with NO symptoms, and also whether it is commonplace for people to have crystals in urine - does this necessarily mean stones? Should I be worried that this could signal something worse (like cancer), or would the blood work up have hinted at this? I'm erring on whether to wait patiently for an NHS urologist (could take up to 6 weeks), or whether to investigate this privately, which would mean borrowing money.

Since the kindey stone is 7 mm, so the symptoms seem unrelated to the kidney stones. Since you are having pedal or leg edema, hence your cardiac, liver and kidney functions need to be assessed for which I suggest you to consult a physician immediately. Abdominal causes like irritable bowel syndrome can also cause such symptoms. Common symptoms include abdominal cramping or pain, bloating and gassiness, and altered bowel habits(alternate constipation and loose stools).
I have a male friend who's been dealin w/ kidney stones for about a year quite now. He's on medi-cal in CA & he's not gettin anywhere w/ doctor's. He's been waitin for 1 mo. now for a referral to see a specialist & in the mean time his symptoms seems to be gettin more serious.
I have only been on Topamax for my migraines since November 2010 and by January I had four kidney stones. One in my left kidney and three in my right. Now I have been taken off Topamax and it was so far the best medication for my migraines I was on 100mg of Topamax and went from having a migraine everyday to once a month. My cat Mini is a 6-year old male cat and has recently diagnosed CRF. Also kidney stones are found in the L kidney and one in the L ureter. The vet in Hong Kong said there's nothing we can do to get rid of the stone in the ureter, only surgery of removing the L kidney, but since his R kidney is not healthy as well (calcium deposits found in the R kidney), complication rate is very high, death rate is like 60%.
Is it normal for stones stuck in the kidney to cause so much pain?? Could the fact that I have pkd be making the pain from these stones worse...I guess I'll be headed back to er if pain doesn't let up before I run out of the few pills I have until I see my urologist. Any advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
