There are several things that could be responsible for your pain. The obvious given what you stated .... moving Kidney Stones! However if it is Kidney Stones be prepared for that pain to become extreme and possible send you to seek immediate medical attention.
It's been several days since you posted how are you doing today? Again if it a kidney stone the pain can wax and wain as the stone moves and then can stop. If it's a very tiny stone, gravel..

Hematuria or blood in the urine may be a symptom of recurrent kidney stones. Are there other signs or symptoms present? There is an increased chance of stone recurrence with patients with history of stone formation. A urinalysis and ultrasound of the KUB may be able to help with the diagnosis. It would be best to see your doctor for furtehr evaluation and management.

Causes for the formation of renal colic can be inadequate hydration, diet comprising of animal fats and too much calcium, infections, errors in metabolism which lead to accumulation of some salts preparing a ground for the formation of stones in the kidney, malfunctioning of the kidney etc.

I have had 3 bouts with kidney stones in the past. Each time the symptoms are different.
First time was the excruciating consistent pain for about 5 hours resulting in a stone being passed.
Second time was off and on pain, but pain was mild in comparison to the first, resulting in a stone being passed days later which looked completely different then the last one.

Other symptoms could be blood in the urine, due to minor damage to inside wall of kidney, ureter and/or urethra.
Pyuria: pus in the urine.
Dysuria: burning on urination when passing stones.
I just wandered if anyone has had kidney stones or bladder stones with NO symptoms, and also whether it is commonplace for people to have crystals in urine - does this necessarily mean stones? Should I be worried that this could signal something worse (like cancer), or would the blood work up have hinted at this? I'm erring on whether to wait patiently for an NHS urologist (could take up to 6 weeks), or whether to investigate this privately, which would mean borrowing money.

Since the kindey stone is 7 mm, so the symptoms seem unrelated to the kidney stones. Since you are having pedal or leg edema, hence your cardiac, liver and kidney functions need to be assessed for which I suggest you to consult a physician immediately. Abdominal causes like irritable bowel syndrome can also cause such symptoms. Common symptoms include abdominal cramping or pain, bloating and gassiness, and altered bowel habits(alternate constipation and loose stools).
I have a male friend who's been dealin w/ kidney stones for about a year quite now. He's on medi-cal in CA & he's not gettin anywhere w/ doctor's. He's been waitin for 1 mo. now for a referral to see a specialist & in the mean time his symptoms seems to be gettin more serious.

My cat Mini is a 6-year old male cat and has recently diagnosed CRF. Also kidney stones are found in the L kidney and one in the L ureter. The vet in Hong Kong said there's nothing we can do to get rid of the stone in the ureter, only surgery of removing the L kidney, but since his R kidney is not healthy as well (calcium deposits found in the R kidney), complication rate is very high, death rate is like 60%.
Is it normal for stones stuck in the kidney to cause so much pain?? Could the fact that I have pkd be making the pain from these stones worse...I guess I'll be headed back to er if pain doesn't let up before I run out of the few pills I have until I see my urologist. Blood in urine is a sign of a really bad bladder infection or kidney stones..I had kidney stones with my first and never peed blood..got kidney stones again this pregnancy was peeing blood they said bladder infection but I ended up in hospital 3 days later with kidney stone attack so I either had both or was trying to pass stones..I would call my doctor so they can get a urine sample while you are peeing the blood out..

I have had a pain in my right lower back since January. It started out only coming about once a month over my period...then it became more frequent. I went to the doctor and he sent me to a urologist. He said that I had kidney stones. But they were still in my kidney and they don't hurt while in the kidney. He did many cat scans, xrays, and a 24 hour urine test.
I went in to have my stones removed on 2/15/13.when I woke up I was told I had a stent and removal of the stones wasn't possible at that time because my ureter was too small. The stent will make my ureter larger so the doctor can remove the stones in 10-14 days. In the meantime I'm having horrible pain in what feels like my bladder. Is what's being done with me standard protocol? Is it normally this painful?
Had a chest CT scan for shortness of breath which incidentally showed a 4mm left renal stone. I have no symptoms and my physician's nurse simply advised me to follow up the chest CT scan in 1 year and never mentioned anything about the renal stone.
Does this sound correct - I shouldn't be worried about it unless I have pain?
I think this is a rational concern. Yes, kidney stones can cause damage to the kidneys. Not all the time though. It can cause the kidney to atrophy, thin and not function as well. Or an infection can happen related to the stones. But, when the damage happens, it is usually when the stones are not detectible in terms of symptoms. The person doesn't have pain so they go a very long time with the stone. You had pain and are scheduled for surgery.
