Avatar f tn UTI can also be due to the polycystic kidney disease as well. Kidney stones and kidney failure are late-stage symptoms of the disease. I suggest you an immediate urologist’s evaluation. If the size of the stone is small, it’s usually treated with ESWL in which shock waves are given from outside and stone breaks into small pieces. On the other hand, if the stone is quite big, then the surgical removal of the stone is a better option. Also her renal functions need to be studied.
Avatar f tn the stones so they can analyze them) is the constituents of the stones. I believe a common kidney stone is made up of calcium oxylate. If your stone has some other makeup, it can be telling as to the cause of your condition. The majority of mine was not calcium oxylate, but the "lead" that gave the docs turned out to be a dead end, so I guess all my efforts to catch that little bugger were for naught. Ah well, at least I got to see my foe!! Sigh.

Kidney stones are more likely to occur if you make less than 1 liter of urine a day. That's slightly more than a quart. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001493/ I have had chronic kidney stones since my early 20's so I am familiar with the pain involved, not very pleasent.
Avatar f tn As you have had/still have calcium oxalate stones, your risk of getting more kidney stones is much increased. Avoid the foods mentioned and browse the web for more information on oxalate rich foods that you should avoid or eat less of. It is also very important to always stay well hydrated. Your urologist may have advised you to drink 2 litres of fluids (4 pints) during the day, more if you are doing exercises that make you sweat or perspiring in hot weather.
Avatar m tn My question is is that i had passed about 7 or 8 kidney stones in the past 10 years and i'm wondering if taking these vitamins will somehow hurt my kidneys or possibly cause me to get more kidney stones? In the past the stones were analyzed and were calcium deposits. Heres what i'm taking: B-Complex Magnesium(500mg twice a day) zinc (50mg) 2 multi mineral vitamins Thanks everyone, I love this site.
Avatar m tn not a professional but to me it sounds a lot like you have cystine kidney stones, which are hereditary. that's what I have and I've had 42 lipotripsy surgeries and five where they actually cut through your back. that's within the last 7 years. I too have lost jobs due to it. from experience no diet changes seem to help. you could see a nephrologist instead of an urologist.
Avatar n tn I do find that if I eat too much peanut butter, I start to feel uncomfortable in my kidney area. Once you have had kidney stones (apart from the Cystine ones which are hereditary) you will be prone to getting them again. It is important to drink plenty of fluids and especially water. 2 litres of water a day is usually recommended, but your urologist may have advised you to drink a different amount, may be much more up to 3 litres. Follow his advice.
1793142 tn?1315382976 I have loss of memory, and I get ill all the time. I have had pleurisy, vertigo, kidney infections/stones, Asthma, COPD, nodules in my lungs, you name it these are a factor in my life.
Avatar n tn When my daughter was born her body made too much oxylate witch formed kidney stones in her kidneys. Untill she was 5 months old I didnt know this was happening to her. She caught a infection called streptococcus and thats when I called the ambulance. Thinking it was a bad flu and I was over reacting I called them anyway. She was in starship childrens hospital NZ on dialysis for 3weeks and faught the strep infection but the oxylate had got to her brain and it started to shrink.
Avatar n tn My uncle has it and they say its hereditary. I have been getting kidney stones for about 5-6 years recurrently and before that I had bad ulcers. Now they are seeing enlarged pancreas suggestive of a mass, and previously my liver showed up on ct scan as abnormal density and high liver functions.I have also heard plenty of remarks on the multiple cysts on my cervix and ovaries. I have chronic pain in my lower left flank area and same side under my ribs in abdominal area.
Avatar m tn Protein in urine can be due to uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, blood pressure (which you have), glomerulonephritis (infection of kidney—you have a history of bacteria or pus in urine), early stages of kidney failure. You can refer to this link: http://kidney.niddk.nih.gov/kudiseases/pubs/proteinuria/ The fragments that you pass in urine could be blood clots. Has the urine been tested for blood? It is important to test your GFR (Glomerular filtration rate).
Avatar m tn It was found that my stone was calcium based and I was told to avoid all dairy products as well as some fruit and veg. There are 4 different types of kidney stones. Unfortunately, once you have had kidney stones the chances of getting another one are much higher.
3287038 tn?1398426027 , passed with fluid, after getting stuck in the ureter, inflated both kidneys. Calcium oxalate stones. I have occasional kidney stones since then. They seem to pass. What complications from kidney stones would someone expect from this or kidney stones in gereral? I stopped all supplements except glucosamine/condroitin, super B, fish oil and vit D.
Avatar f tn When she was finally diagnosed previously, after days of intense pain, the stones were still in the kidney, so her original stones caused pain for her before they ever moved out of the kidney. She has had no other symptoms, and for now she is feeling great. She was a bit discouraged when we left the dr, wondering what in the world could "mimic" the stones, if it wasn't the stones.
Avatar f tn If you live in a hard water area, that could also contribute to the formation of stones. You really need to find out the cause of the stones. Cystine stones are hereditary, there are struvite, calcium oxalate and uric stones. Some of these can happen due to lots of urinary infections, from dehydration (which I do not think you have that with drinking all that water) and also from what you are eating. Keep badgering your urologist.
Avatar f tn All I have been told is that it is now known to be hereditary and that it can show at any time in your life. What I would like to know is there a doctor out there that is specifically studying this disease and where do I sign up??? I suffer on a daily basis with pain (I also have fibromyalgia which worsens the pain) and would like to live a life with some sort of good quality. Any suggestions would help greatly. Thanks and good luck to everyone else who suffers!!!!
Avatar m tn A person with a family history of kidney stones may be more likely to develop stones. Urinary tract infections, kidney disorders such as cystic kidney diseases, and certain metabolic disorders such as hyperparathyroidism are also linked to stone formation. In addition, more than 70 percent of people with a rare hereditary disease called renal tubular acidosis develop kidney stones.
Avatar f tn I've not had a lot of issues with my uterus or kidney stones, yet. (knock on wood) I do seem to have bad cramps more than others do. I wonder what caused the developement of the kidney and uterus to go wrong though. Could it have been something to do with the mother or something hereditary or just one of those things that happen?
Avatar n tn Kidney stones run on my mother's side and I am not sure of they're hereditary but both my grandmother and uncle have them. Lately, I have been feeling awkward sharp pains in my lower abdominal area and sometimes in my upper abdominal. At first, I was worried that I might be pregnant, because my last period was almost non-visible, so I took two pregnancy tests. However, both of the tests were negative. For the last week, I have been needing to go to the bathroom a lot more than previously.
Avatar n tn Family history of kidney stones, my father has had at least 5 flair ups, 1 surgery and numerous lithos done. Recently my sister, after about two years of going to her doc with pain, was diagnosed and had the litho done (her right kidney was said to have been shut done for several months to a year). While I was pregnant last year I had pain in my right lower back, it lasted for about 20min the first time and about 45min the second.

Cheryl (gallstones, kidney stones, thyroid cancer '07 very small, encapsulated, melanoma gone ..
Avatar f tn Can anyone tell me how to prevent them!! They say kidney stones are calcium build up am I drinking to much milk? I've never had kidney stones till I got pregnant.
Avatar f tn This came as a surprise to me as I have never had any kidney problems and kidney blood work is always within normal range. I'm wondering if this could be hereditary as my father had an atrophic kidney that he also learned about after having a test for an unrelated condition. He never received treatment for his kidney because he died of colon cancer shortly after. I'm not sure where to go from here. Do I need more test?
Avatar n tn We dont use the same bath towels, and I am very careful that everything is seperated because of my infections. Are UTI's and kidney infections contagious or hereditary?
Avatar n tn We dont use the same bath towels, and I am very careful that everything is seperated because of my infections. Are UTI's and kidney infections contagious or hereditary? Thanks again Diane ================================================== Dear Diane, The bacteria that cause urinary tract infections are thought to originate from the gastrointestinal system. In females bacteria from the rectal area move to the vaginal area, and finally move through the urethra into the bladder.
540521 tn?1221703306 My brother was diagnosed with having to much calcium in his body and he needs to have surgery on his neck to remove the glands and i was wondering, I have been feeling depressed , tired all the time, no energy, my bones are sore, not feeling hungry, blurry vision, confused, and i also have had kidney stones for about 7 months now. I was wondering if this is hereditary and if i could get more info on what this is called. Any information would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn You should talk to his doctor to find out what these levels mean. They are not related to liver disease. Yes kidney stones are very painful. Again kidney stones have nothing to do with liver disease. Kidney stones are usually a hereditary condition. There is no relationship between your husbands conditions and liver disease. His SGOT and SGPT levels if high indicate that something is injuring his liver. Aspirin and many statins can cause high liver enzymes. Ask his doc.
