Avatar f tn Vitamin A (not betacarotene) promotes healthy functioning of the urinary tract, if you're deficient in it sometimes kidney stones can form. You’ll find vitamin A in most good general multiple vitamin and mineral supple- ments. Magnesium helps the body dissolve calcium if you’re deficient in this mineral it can cause calcium to accumulate into deposits, which increases your risk of forming kidney stones.
Avatar n tn Through testing in June, I know that I have 5 small stones in my left kidney and the kidney has hydroneph... can't remember the word at the moment, but it means enlarged/swollen. My uric acid (1480) and oxaclic acid levels were high. I am now on allopurinol (sp? the bottle is not with me). I was told to change my diet to avoid purines and oxalic acid. I got a very short list from the doctor and was told to do some research on the internet.
7808984 tn?1406684565 not all doctors are right though and my use of motrin was over 2 yrs not just getting through kidney stones, so you should be ok. passing that kidney stone must feel like childbirth.
Avatar n tn Weturner, there IS a connection between "bipolar" and kidney stones. His 'bipolar' symptoms and kidney stones are very possibly caused by the same thing. It is called Hyperparathyroidism. Most people have never heard of PARAthyroid glands. But we all have four of them. Please have your husband's parathyroid checked out by the best expert you can find. I was put on medications for years for mental things such as bipolar, I was also getting kidney stones a lot.
Avatar n tn I suffer from what is called Polycystic Kidney Disease (google it) which causes chronic kidney stones. Many people have this disease with no signs until they are much olde. When their kidneys begin to fail them. Diarrhea is related because when the stone is stuck in the ureter ( the tube leading down to your bladder from your kidney) this sends a message to your entire digestive tract to stop.
Avatar f tn So for us having multiple types of stones in not unusual. I actually had a book with a list of different calcium stones or even calcium oxalate stones with others materials deposited on them. just like rocks sadly.
Avatar m tn Depending on the stone you have, you will need to avoid certain food items. For oxalate stones you need to restrict (not totally stop) foods which are high in oxalate like beans, legumes, dark green leaves, egg plant, spinach, beets, chocolates and fruit cake. Avoid Vitamin C as its metabolism produces oxalates in the body. For calcium stones you need to restrict packaged food items rich in sugars and dairy products. For uric acid stones you need to restrict protein intake. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn I goggled, can to much iron cause kidney stones , I was curious because I have always been slightly anemic and was taking vitamin's with iron in them. I went for a physical and found out my iron serum level was to high and can be "Hemochromatosis" This is where your body stores iron in your liver, brain, other organs and causes all kinds of issues, arthritis , thyroid , gout, Alzheimer's .
Avatar n tn Pain that I am having - it is the same pain that have when I have had infections and when I have stones which is why I went to my reg doctor and they found all of this so how can it not be from the stones even though they are still in the kidney? What causes multiple stones in both kidneys? I did have ionized calcuim and PTH blood work done again - not sure they tested it in the time frame needed but it came back normal.
Avatar f tn My 60 year old husband passed small uric acid type kidney stones in August (per lab analysis of stones), had a blood test that showed high uric acid and was put on Allopurinol 100mg (twice daily) about two weeks ago. He recently lost weight after having an angioplasty with stent in late July (blood work shows normal range for cholesterol- blood glucose elevated at 117, blood pressure is normal, pulse 50 to 60).
Avatar f tn He also says Asians don't eat much soy, but that's just not true -- they eat it in so many forms every day, and they eat a lot of tofu, although their meat consumption (and subsequent deterioration of health) is going up rapidly. My question to Gymdandee has always been, if soy is so estrogenic for those who don't need estrogen, why does Asia have so many people? After all, they consume far and away the most soy of anyone on Earth.
Avatar n tn Vitamin A (not betacarotene) promotes healthy functioning of the urinary tract. People who are low in it sometimes form kidney stones more easily than others. You can get vitamin A in most good general multiple vitamin and mineral supplements. Magnesium helps the body dissolve calcium if you’re deficient in this it can cause calcium to accumulate into deposits, which increases your risk of forming kidney stones.
18954 tn?1314301717 My doctor has told me that I can prevent kidney stones by changing my diet to exclude foods that are high in calcium and oxalate such as dairy, Coca Cola, chocolate, peanuts, vegetables and tea, however she did not tell me what foods are GOOD for kidney stones. Can you help me with a few suggestions?
872485 tn?1240607162 -yes caffeine -if you make oxalate stones-stay away from dark green leafy vegetables, chocolate, tea, nuts -any kind of vitamins in excess amounts can give you stones -if you make calcium stones do not stray away from calcium totally, just eat the norm, cutting it out totally can cause stones as well -how I look at it, the darker it is whether drink or food, the harder the kidney works to metabolize it I hope this helps you a little.
Avatar n tn I thought it was my gall bladder. So after several tests they found kidney stones in both kidneys and a lesion on my colon. I am just wondering and worrying about the lesion-has anyone experienced this? I am not able to eat certain foods or the pain is worse.
278016 tn?1220194704 I have been having multiple health problems for four years shortly after having mono, and kidney stones which were a year and a half apart. Focusing on the kidneys they are constantly sore. When I eat certain foods, especially salty foods, i urinate even more frequently, and leak urine. I have been to a urologist and my bladder is perfectly healthy.
Avatar n tn SUGAR may not have anything to do with stones, but it is also one of the worst things you can eat. It ages every organ in your body it is hard to digest.
Avatar f tn I'm a long time kidney stone producer, 20 years x 10 stones and one in each kidney now. For what it's worth, Toridol is one of the best drugs you can get quickly (60mg injection) at many local walk in urgent care clinics. It's an ok pain reliever but it a good anti-inflamitory, which is really more important and why it's almost always prescribed for kidney stones. It's used along with an opiate.
Avatar m tn It was found that my stone was calcium based and I was told to avoid all dairy products as well as some fruit and veg. There are 4 different types of kidney stones. Unfortunately, once you have had kidney stones the chances of getting another one are much higher.

Avatar n tn If gout remains untreated, these uric acid crystals can build up in the joints and nearby tissues, forming hard lumpy deposits called tophi. High levels of uric acid may also cause kidney stones or kidney failure. SGPT is a test for liver function. SGOT/SGPT blood test is a one of the liver function tests. Avatar f tn I passed my first kidney stone at age 20 ( probably had them before then but just Mia diagnosed) Passed about 2 a year since then. Have been going to urologist with no real preventative care, they only wanted to help when I had a stone. -roughly 4 stones in each kidney. -Calcium oxalate.
Avatar f tn I have a damaged kidney from years ago, and when I get dehydrated, I get little tiny kidney stones that it takes a while to clear. Again, mine is an usual situation, but I did get some small kidney stones while on Diflucan (a rather high dose for several months, which is unusual) and it has taken a while for them to clear. So I think most people would not get that problem, and it's because of my damaged kidney.
Avatar f tn Been dealing with it everyday for 9months and it's not related to kidney stones so the doctors keep saying. Have you found out the cause of yours?
Avatar f tn No, I don't think it will affect kidney stones, but.. Slim fast has horrible ingredients, and I would not feed it to my dog. From their website, they list Hydrogenated soybean oil, High Fructose Corn syrup, etc. Soybean oil will make you fat, and so will high fructose corn syrup.Suffice to say, stay away from Slim Fast! Eat whole foods instead. At best, these drinks may cause rapid weight loss, but they are not healthy and usually the weight comes back later.

Avatar m tn Since 1994 I have had over 250 kidney stones. I drink at least a gallon of water each day, am on meds to break up stones, which dont work, on meds for bp which also cuts calcium down in the body, on a low-oxalate diet, low calcium diet, and just found out i have 6 more stones. 1-6mm on left and a 3 mm on left side, and 4 stones with the range of 1-3 mm on the right side. I hurt all the time, urologists thinks im in there for the narcotics, what is someone supposed to do? Hurt?
Avatar m tn Thank you so much for your thoughtful response. My kidney stone problem is a problem with oxalate. I think I will stop the turmeric for now. I am disappointed, as I thought this would help the arthritis. I certainly don't want kidney stone problems again. The calcium supplement I take is calcium citrate (not carbonate). Since I already take a prescription potassium citrate (Urocit-K), I guess the turmeric would be keeping that from doing its job of breaking down the oxalate.
