I got a very short list from the doctor and was told to do some research on the internet.
Avatar n tn Hi, Causes other than a UTI than can cause blood in urine include, kidney stones, underlying kidney disease, STDs that are not detected on routine urinalysis (chlamydia and mycoplasma infections), increased blood pressure, exercise-induced bleeding, general bleeding disorders, etc. Kidney stones up to 5 mm in size can pass through the urinary tract, though with significant discomfort.
Avatar f tn Before you assume your kidney stone production is based on a magnesium deficiency, you need to have your labs and stone analized. An IVP of your kidney will help determine if you don't have a "sponge kidney".Medullary Sponge kidney is an anatomical defect in the kidney which produces multiple kidney stones within pockets of the kidneys. No amount of Magnesium will resolve that. So I wouldn't go messing with your chemistry until you know why.
Avatar m tn Recurrent kidney infection can be due to diabetes, some anomaly or defect in the kidney or due to the organisms developing antibiotic resistance. Recurrent kidney stones are found renal tubular acidosis, medullary sponge kidney, Dent's disease (genetic disease of the kidney), hyperparathyroidism, primary hyperoxaluria and Crohn's disease. Since the pain comes before periods too, it can also be due to endometriosis.

Avatar f tn Years ago I was sent to a dietitian due to MSK and the kidney stones. I was told to limit salt to 2000mg and avoid purines and oxalates. The foods you listed were on the oxalate list. Gravies and liver are all I can remember that were on the purine list, but there were a lot more. I can't drink ANY alcohol anymore without severe kidney pain. I used to have a couple of wine coolers once or twice a year, but I can't even tolerate one anymore.
Avatar f tn As for Soy, Asians eat a lot of soy in their diet, Soy formula is a good choice for infants, Soy-containing foods help prevent osteoporosis, Soy is a healthy food for adults, Soy helps improve libido in men. The above about Soy is false. Those who eat large amounts of soy, especially non-fermented soy, have severe hormonal imbalances that are very difficult or impossible to correct without eliminating or drastically reducing soy in the diet. i have seen soy as an ingredient added to tea bags!
Avatar n tn You do need to cut down or avoid some foods. Those that I know of that can contribute to the formation of calcium stones are strawberries, beetroot, peanut butter. I can't remember other foods, but I am sure there were some more. I do find that if I eat too much peanut butter, I start to feel uncomfortable in my kidney area. Once you have had kidney stones (apart from the Cystine ones which are hereditary) you will be prone to getting them again.
82861 tn?1333457511 He appears to be about 2 years old, and we were told that dals have a tendency to develop bladder stones. I understand they need a chicken or lamb-based diet (no beef) and wonder what other dietary measures we need to take. Are there any supplements we should give him to help prevent stone formation? Maggie, our other pup, is a dal x lab mix, so is it correct to assume she likely has the same tendency and should be treated the same as Doc?
Avatar f tn After to surgeries, I was sent home with a new diet. There are a number of foods to avoid, as these are high in oxollate. I was told to consume milk products with my meals to bind the calcium to the oxolates found in food. Since then, my doctor did a test and found that I am lactose intolerant. My doctor doesn't want me to consume lactose free products either or soy products. So, how do I get calcium rich foods to bind with oxolate if I can't have milk or soy products?

Avoiding foods high in oxalate, etc. (protein foods is one of the food groups) which I can't avoid. It seems the 5th remaining 10mm stone is totally unreachable with a scope as it is located in the mid pole deep in the kidney tissue where a scope can't reach so I'm facing either a lifetime of pain which I have most days or PCNL which my surgeon is reviewing.
Avatar f tn My problem being the pain in the kidney is still at times very bad. I have noticed certain foods and drinks make this problem worse so avoid this. Avatar f tn I am a poor water drinker which contributes to the formation of most kidney stones. I suggest that you have your stones analysed if you have not done that. I was told by 2 urologists that there is nothing that I can take or do that will change my situation. Both urologist told me the same as what yours said, my chronic back pain was not related to kidney stones. They were correct and I was diagnosed with other issues that was the cause of most of my chronic low back pain.
