Avatar f tn I live with kidney stones and have been for years. Does anyone know what is good to eat to help prevent stones? All I can find online are foods that I can't eat.
Avatar n tn Do consult with your doctor about this issue for their guidance. Kidney stones are something we all want to avoid! If our diet can help, good to try, right? Avoiding foods high in oxalate, a compound found in many of them, is the key to this approach. Oxalate is a leading component of many kidney stones with calcium oxalate being the most common type of stone. Foods to avoid: Spinach Bran flakes Rhubarb Beets Potato chips French fries Nuts and nut butters These are high in oxalate.

Avatar n tn I have been put on diets through the Urologist office (piece of paper of foods to avoid) but I am thinking that it is a waste of my time.. am I correct? are they just trying anything at this point cause i am such a high stone former? Avatar f tn Before you assume your kidney stone production is based on a magnesium deficiency, you need to have your labs and stone analized. An IVP of your kidney will help determine if you don't have a "sponge kidney".Medullary Sponge kidney is an anatomical defect in the kidney which produces multiple kidney stones within pockets of the kidneys. No amount of Magnesium will resolve that. So I wouldn't go messing with your chemistry until you know why.
Avatar f tn What should I do to prevent any problem in my pregnancy . What foods should I avoid eating. And what foods help me to get rid of the stones and send if there is any.
82861 tn?1333453911 He appears to be about 2 years old, and we were told that dals have a tendency to develop bladder stones. I understand they need a chicken or lamb-based diet (no beef) and wonder what other dietary measures we need to take. Are there any supplements we should give him to help prevent stone formation? Maggie, our other pup, is a dal x lab mix, so is it correct to assume she likely has the same tendency and should be treated the same as Doc?
Avatar m tn Recurrent kidney infection can be due to diabetes, some anomaly or defect in the kidney or due to the organisms developing antibiotic resistance. Recurrent kidney stones are found renal tubular acidosis, medullary sponge kidney, Dent's disease (genetic disease of the kidney), hyperparathyroidism, primary hyperoxaluria and Crohn's disease. Since the pain comes before periods too, it can also be due to endometriosis.

Avatar f tn My 60 year old husband passed small uric acid type kidney stones in August (per lab analysis of stones), had a blood test that showed high uric acid and was put on Allopurinol 100mg (twice daily) about two weeks ago. He recently lost weight after having an angioplasty with stent in late July (blood work shows normal range for cholesterol- blood glucose elevated at 117, blood pressure is normal, pulse 50 to 60).
Avatar m tn s all connected to the kidney stones since I just happen to have had the kidney stone pain not long after the onset of these symptoms. What suprises me, is that because I'm Lactose intolerant, I can't see how I can be taking in much calcium anyway, since my milk costs 250% of the price of regular milk.
Avatar n tn I want to know that whether the increased level of creatinine is due to stones or there is the damage to kidney due to some other reasons. Please tell me the chances of my creatinine level to come to normal after complete removal of the stones. The ultra sound and IVP test shows no damage to kidney. please suggest.

Avatar m tn What I can say something about that I know is having two stones, each 5mm, with one in each kidney. Yes, they could each be causing you pain, but having shoulder pain from kidney stones is something I have never experienced. I have always had pain, some very severe pain, in my kidney area on either side, but that pain has never traveled to my shoulders. That's covering many years and many stones for me personally too.
Avatar f tn t have an effect on your risk of kidney stones. Continue eating calcium-rich foods unless your doctor advises otherwise. Ask your doctor before taking calcium supplements, though, as these have been linked to an increased risk of kidney stones. You may reduce the risk by taking supplements with meals. Ask your doctor for a referral to a dietitian who can help you plan meals that will help reduce your risk of kidney stones.
Avatar f tn I was always told how uncommon it was for a girl my age (first stones were at age 19,I am now 27) to have kidney stones and also plus because I am a woman and women don't tend to get them. I was never ever offered any help even after asking for advice from many doctors on what should I do?? I have had kidney stones at least 3-4 Times a year. But this past month I have passed 10 stones so far and counting. Each time at the ER I am prescribed pain meds and anti nausea pills and sent home.
Avatar n tn calcium oxalate stones, struvite stones, uric acid stones or cystine stones. Potassium citrate is used for the treatment of stones. Treatment modes include oral medicines, Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithrotripsy (ESWL), uteroscopic stone removal and percutaneous nephrolithotomy. Please discuss these treatment options with your urologist. Also take less calcium and oxalate rich foods and supplements like dairy products, colas, chocolate, peanuts, leafy vegetables, and tea. I hope it helps.
Avatar f tn i am used to the pain and can deal with it, what scares me is the kidney pain. normally i dont get kidney pain with the stones. i had to have only one stone removed surgically, it was stuck in the lining of my urethra, total pain on that episode before and after! Does anyone have any knowledge on preventing calcium oxalate stones that i havent tried already? i cant take diuretics because of a sulfa allergy, the potassium citrate does nothing, and i have slowed down on tea and cheese.
Avatar n tn I had my first kidney stone send me to the ER in April (5mm). I don't know if it actually passed because there was no evidence, but the pain did stop after 2 weeks. Through testing in June, I know that I have 5 small stones in my left kidney and the kidney has hydroneph... can't remember the word at the moment, but it means enlarged/swollen. My uric acid (1480) and oxaclic acid levels were high. I am now on allopurinol (sp? the bottle is not with me).
