Avatar n tn Through testing in June, I know that I have 5 small stones in my left kidney and the kidney has hydroneph... can't remember the word at the moment, but it means enlarged/swollen. My uric acid (1480) and oxaclic acid levels were high. I am now on allopurinol (sp? the bottle is not with me). I was told to change my diet to avoid purines and oxalic acid. I got a very short list from the doctor and was told to do some research on the internet.
Avatar m tn I am a 37 year old man. I had Kidney stones in 2002 which was treated by the laser treatment. Again this year in 2010, I had the same problem and was again treated by the same method. The analysis of the stone was found to be due to calcium. My job demands that I remain fit all the time due to lack of medical help. I do drink about 2 liters of water per day some times accompanied with lemon.

Avatar n tn Hi, How are you? Kidney stones usually pass out through the urine stream with in 48hours. But this depends upon the size of the stone. A 4mm stone has 80% chances of coming out spontaneously, where as 5mm stone has 20% chances. Stones more than this size usually require treatment. Avatar f tn No i don't have any other pain conditions. Just stones and kidney infections as a result of the stones. I take antibiotics about 2 weeks out of every month to keep the constant infections at bay which i can't imagine is good. Im assuming he refferred me to the pain mgmt dr because he's afraid of prescribing pain meds on such a regular basis. I can understand it but its still not easy for me because I'm uninsured and can't really afford to add another dr to the mix.

Is there any hope that I will be able to be stone free and prevent more stones?
Avatar f tn It does NOT cause cancer however it can be a precursor to cancer, but not without other contributing factors (genetics, smoking, drugs, EMF radiation exposure, prolonged unhealthy diet, etc.) The composition of the stones is calcium. Think of it like a testicular Gall Stone. The stones usually appear in the epididymal tubes and block the flow of sperm to the vas deferens. However, they can actually occur almost anywhere in the testicle.

Avatar f tn The first thing I should ask you is have you done a 24 hour urine test to find out what type of stones you are getting. I mainly produce based stones and my doctor had me go on a low oxalate diet. It's been very difficult to do so but I have had great success with it. When I first was diagnosed I was getting two or three stones a week, but since I have been on this diet I haven't had an attack in over a month. I see that a lot of people with MSK see doctors that are not kidney specialist.
Avatar m tn I went to doctor about some lower abdominal pain I had been having, and he suggested that I get an ultrasound of my kidneys and organs in the abdominal area. The ultrasound showed that I have stones (2.5 mm) in both kidneys. My right kidney has a stone of 4 mm. It also showed that the right lobe of my liver is enlarged (135 mm) and that I have biliary engorgement. As I understand, various types of liver disease are typically characterized by enlargement of the whole liver.
