That's slightly more than a quart. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001493/ I have had chronic kidney stones since my early 20's so I am familiar with the pain involved, not very pleasent.
Avatar f tn She was very sick just over a week before she was diagnosed, and they don't know if she was sick from the kidney stones,or if she had the stomach flu,and getting dehydrated caused the kidney stones. However she never really got too "dehydrated" when she was so sick. She did vomit alot, but was still having plenty of urine. So who knows. Any experience on how long these things take to pass? Thanks again.
Avatar n tn Million dollar question - what causes bilateral multiple kidney stones? They keep forming - keep colicing but not passing. Do you go see a urologist, a nephrologist or an endocrinologist? Only had one incident 6 years ago - hyperparathroidism - single adenoma removed, single large stone w/ infection, blocked - had to be removed and scoped out - could not pass even after blasting and stenting.
Avatar n tn I suffer from what is called Polycystic Kidney Disease (google it) which causes chronic kidney stones. Many people have this disease with no signs until they are much olde. When their kidneys begin to fail them. Diarrhea is related because when the stone is stuck in the ureter ( the tube leading down to your bladder from your kidney) this sends a message to your entire digestive tract to stop.
Avatar n tn Hi, How many times have you experienced this ? Was this present prior to the treatment of your kidney stones? What kind of treatment did you undergo? This may be case of dry orgasm or orgasm with no seminal discharge. The following may lead to a dry orgasm: "Retrograde ejaculation. In this condition, semen is forced back into the bladder instead of out through the penis.
Avatar f tn I was born with a condition that causes my body to create kidney stones. I have been to the emergency room 4 or 5 times in the past 18 years for the large stones, small ones pass ok. My first stone caused bleeding and severe back pain also with pain in the lower abdomen area along with hot/cold flashes and vomiting. It may feel like someone is squeezing your kidney while at the same time stabbing it with an ice pick. I first though it was my appendix. I was wrong. Water, water, water.
Avatar f tn I've just joined so this is my first post. I have a kidney disease which causes me to pass several kidney stones a month. Not only do I have the pain when passing a stone but due to the disease have constant chronic pain even when not passing a stone. My pain specialist, nephrologist and primary physician have me taking 2-15mg MS Contin and 4-7.5/325mg Percocet daily along with up to 4-50mg Demerol when needed for more severe pain.
Avatar f tn My father has kidney stones in both kidneys. He has undergone both laser surgery as well as actual removal surgery to take care of the bulk of them. As of his last ultrasounds/x-rays, there are still stones present, but they have not been causing any problems. As of yesterday, he has been presenting with blood in the urine. Is it likely that the stones could be causing this blood, even without pain?
Avatar f tn I have primary hyperoxaluria type one my liver does not produce and enzyme that take the oxalates out of my body, causing many stones and kidney failure, if your having cronic stones get checked for it, a nephrologist is who u need to see, urologist only treat the the stones effects on you. Not what causes them, I will one day soon need a liver and kidney transplant they will not do only a kidney because it will be destroyed by my liver.
Avatar m tn Hi, Most kidney stones pass out of the body without any intervention by a physician. However, stones that cause lasting symptoms or other complications may be treated by medications or lifestyle changes. In your case, there is no definite diagnosis yet. I suggest that you have this evaluated first. A urinalysis will help determine if there is an infection present or rule out other causes.
Avatar m tn It was found that my stone was calcium based and I was told to avoid all dairy products as well as some fruit and veg. There are 4 different types of kidney stones. Unfortunately, once you have had kidney stones the chances of getting another one are much higher.
Avatar f tn Hello, Cloudy urine is caused by blood in urine, UTI, bladder infection, kidney stones, gonorrhea and other causes. Glucose can be seen in diabetes mellitus, pheochromocytoma or it can be transient stress induced.Urobiliongen in urine is seen in UTI or hepatitis. Trace protein can be seen in normal persons also. The presence of 3-5 RBCs in urine can be seen in urinary tract infection; kidney stone etc. and is an indication of further testing. Any test result should be correlated clinically.

Avatar f tn I know how you feel, although I haven't had spasms everyday, I have experienced them on occasion. It is worse than kidney stones. Undescribible pain!! It could be a number of things. Your kidney could be floating, you could have hydronephrosis, your renal artery could be obstructed and the blood supply is cut off intermittantly, and of coarse the old kidney stone is a possiblity. You really need some test done to see what is going on. I know how hard it is to find a good urologist.
Avatar m tn These substances can create small crystals that become stones. The biggest risk factor for kidney stones is dehydration. Kidney stones may not produce symptoms until they begin to move down the tubes (ureters) through which urine empties into the bladder. When this happens, the stones can block the flow of urine out of the kidneys. This causes swelling of the kidney or kidneys, causing pain. The pain is usually severe. Kidney stones are common.
3183592 tn?1344634338 I squirmed around trying to find any relief, but nothing I did made a difference. I had treated hundreds of patients with kidney stones, but now, I realized, I was the one who was about to wind up in the emergency room. My wife drove me to the hospital where I worked, and I greeted the ER director miserably letting him know that I thought I had a kidney stone.

Avatar f tn What are the causes of puss in kidney? and what are the best treatment of it?
Avatar n tn My daughter went to an Urgent Care Clinic two weeks ago in extreme pain and was diagnosed with a kidney infection. She took Cipro and Lortab. Improved for a few days, then began to experience extreme pain again, although in a different area (right side to front under edge of bottom rib), culminating in a rush back to the Urgent Care Center. She couldn't straighten up. It hurt to breathe, walk or lay down.
Avatar n tn There are a wide variety of causes ranging from cancers of the bladder and kidney to stones. Routine evaluation includes an IVP ( a dye test of the kidneys ), cystoscopy ( looking inside the bladder with a lighted scope ) . When these do not yield a cause, CT scan is performed. Other less common causes include a condition called papillary necrosis and AV malformations ( a connection between the artery and vein of the kidney).
Avatar n tn Last year EWSL was attempted 3X to remove small, stubborn stones in my right kidney. Stones were not blocking the ureter but were causing pain for months. After 3rd attempt at EWSL it was decided to try laser treatment cystoscopically. This was "partially" successful. Some of the stones were removed, some he was not able to reach. I was left with a stint which came out before I made it home from the hospital.
Avatar n tn My opinion is that you have something way less serious like a kidney stone. Kidney stones cause flank pain, as well as lower and upper back pain. Don't try to diagnose yourself. If you are truly worried about the pain you are experiencing, go see a doctor. It is always your best bet. As I'm sure you know 300 pounds is very overweight. I know it's hard to keep off weight and exercise, and sometimes there's just not enough time in the day for it.
Avatar n tn Amoxicillin failed to alleviate frequent urination, straining, and then dripping urine. Lateral radiograph revealed enlarged liver, several large kidney stones in 1 kidney and possibly 1 small stone in the urinary bladder. Subsequent bloodwork = increased alkaline phosphatase, other blood chemistries normal, CBC normal. A low dose dexamethasone suppression test was performed due to increased alk. phos. suspecting cushings disease but was negative for cushings.
Avatar n tn hydronephrosis - caused by a stone, uretopelvic junction obstruction, or floating kidney (UPJ - where the kidney and ureter meet) I'm assuming this is the renal pelvis that is dilated. Other test for kidney funtion: diuretic renal gram (stress test for the kideny) retrograde pyelogram (shows explicit detail of the urter and kideny, but doesn't stress the kidney or ureter out to show how it performs under normal everyday living.) drink lots of water.
Avatar m tn I was in the ER 3 times and was loaded up with Toradol and Dilaudid for basically 48 hours straight. After passing the stones my kidney, uteter pains etc were mostly gone in 48 hours but i started getting bad leg cramps in the calfs. This has been ongoing for 5 days now and I feel like i just hiked up a mountain! My doctor told me to drink lots of Gatorade and V8 juice but that is not helping. Could this be a problem that i need to go back for blood work? clots?
