Common Questions and Answers about Kidney stones and hypothyroidism

Avatar n tn im having problems of kidney stones and im suffering dizziness is it one of the sympthoms of kidney stones?? I feel dizzy when my kidney is having pain.
Avatar n tn I am 31 year old female and diagnosed with Hypothyroid when i was 20 and Hashimotos about 5 years ago. This past April I began to suffer from kidney stones and had surgery for removal. Just six months later I am experiencing some pain in my kidneys again. I have been doing reserach on the Parathyroid and have read that there may be a correlation with kindey stones and thyroid issues. Any feedback or websites would be very helpful!
Avatar n tn The reason I ask is because several of your symptoms, especially the gut probs and kidney stones are included in hyperparathyroidism which Drs don't look for very often. Do you have frequent headaches, joint and muscle pain, and fatigue? If so, check out and look at the symptoms listed there...This may not be what is going on, but it may point you in the right direction...Good luck...
Avatar n tn He sent me for a CT scan to check for kidney stones and this came back normal and no signs of infection were found in the urine. I am supposed to go back in a week for another urinalysis to check for blood. Since I saw the doctor, I have been passing white pieces of tissue in my urine intermittently. These range in size from a speck to about the size of a dime. They are white, except for one was pink and white. I am not on my period, but it is due in the next week or so.
Avatar f tn I am not allowed to put in the dosage of supplements here , but the books I listed will give the answers. Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Hyperparathyroidism which was originally diagnosed due to my body creating large amounts of kidney stones for 7 years. I since no longer have kidney stones, but have had a time, trying to level out my synthroid levels. I continue to go to the doctors and have lab requisitions for my TSH levels and occasionally PTH. my current requisition is also checking my ft4, but don't see anything listed for ft3?
Avatar n tn Hi, I was diagnosed in 2001 with hypothyroidism and have been on synthroid ever since. I also have IBS and take Lomotil. I recently passed several kidney stones the size of erasers and went to the urologist today and had a scan that revealed many more in both kidneys. I am going back next week to follow up and have more tests. I wanted to know if there could be a relation between the Hypothyroid and kidney stones.
Avatar m tn Heart medications and blood pressure medications can also cause drop in potassium levels and cramps. Electrolyte imbalances in diseases like diabetes, kidney disease, hypothyroidism, and Addison's disease all can cause calf cramps. Drink plenty of water and avoid dehydration. You should see a doctor and get evaluated. A clinical examination and work up is important for confirming the exact cause of your symptoms. Keep me posted. Take care and regards!
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism 7 1/2 years ago. Other than that I have not had any health issues. This past October I went to the ER early one morning, had x-rays and a ct scan, & was told I had kidney stones. When I did the follow up with the urologist, I was told the ct scan not only showed the stones but also a nodule on my right adrenal gland. He then referred me to an endocrinologist.
2042830 tn?1333869167 Hello, From your symptoms of fatigue and tiredness, tingling sensations and weight gain, hypothyroidism should be ruled out. Symptoms of hypothyroidism are fatigue, depression, weight gain, cold intolerance, dry, coarse hair and skin, constipation ,muscle cramps, decreased concentration, vague aches and pains, menstrual disorders, palpitation and swelling of the legs. I feel that you should consult a physician and get yourself and your thyroid hormone levels evaluated.
1522652 tn?1291241954 I know that there is a link beginning with my chronic uti's as a child, to my severe pms as an adolecent into adulthood, and then on to my chronic kidney stones and infections as an adult, and then the loss of my kidney, as well as the problems I'm experiencing now. My question is what specific tests do I need to request to accurately check my thyroid, parathyroid, and my calcium levels? Also, are there any specific questions that I need to ask.
Avatar f tn I have Sjogren's Syndrome, hypothyroidism and undifferentiated connective tissue disease. I haven't really had any kidney issues until the last 3-4 days. Now my right kidney has been hurting. It isn't a severe pain, more of a nagging ache, but sometimes it makes me a little nauseous. I don't know which, if any, of my diseases is causing it, but I am NOT having fun.
1916673 tn?1420236870 I would have to be completely honest and say, given her age and her kidney failure, and given that she has had (presumably) good dental care up to two years ago - I would forget about the dental work. It is true that according to some sources, bad dental hygiene is a major contributor to kidney failure. However, once a dog is in kidney failure, stress can be even more damaging. And that's without the high risk that anaesthetic will introduce.
168348 tn?1379360675 I have 2 ovarian cysts (at the moment) and kidney stones (mine, too, stay in the kidney!) and i get very very sick and the pain gets so bad sometimes that all i want to do is sleep to pass the time, but sometimes i can't even sleep. the pain is the worst before menstruation. i'm 15 so it's hard to deal with the pain when i'm trying to do well in school.
Avatar n tn Hypothyroidism and gout often coexist and may have biologic mechanisms in common. Some studies have reported a higher prevalence of gout in people with hypothyroidism (low levels of thyroid hormone). Hypothyroidism may even trigger gout. There is also some evidence to suggest that hyperthyroidism (high levels of thyroid hormone) can increase uric acid levels, although not to the degree that low thyroid hormones levels do.
Avatar m tn The medical examiner's report also noted she had multiple food allergies to soy protein, lactose and gluten as well as hypothyroidism and pre-diabetes. Her death has been ruled an accident. Intravenous administration of curcumin (from turmeric) has been used in some clinical trials for gallbladder disease and breast cancer and was generally well-tolerated; there are no clinical studies on the use of intravenous curcumin for eczema (Gupta, AAPSJ 2013).
Avatar f tn I was origionally diagnosed with depression (at the time I was off work caring for my partner who had cancer), so I accepted that was the correct diagnosis. In Nov 07 had kidney stones and then felt a lot worse. Several blood tests later over a number of months I am relieved to have a diagnosis. I am currently waiting for an op date. My symptoms seems to be getting worse though and I'm finding it hard to juggle work feeling as I do.
Avatar n tn Additionally, since you've had several episodes of kidney stones, your calcium should be checked periodically, along with your vitamin D and PTH. If you've had those done, please post those results, as well. It's true that symptoms often get worse or new ones begin, once one is on a thyroid replacement hormone. It takes 4-6 weeks for the med to reach full potential.
Avatar f tn During my first visit, my acupuncturist said that although my main problem is definitely kidney and endocrine-related, the stomach and gall bladder also need to be treated (as do my allergies). Since beginning treatment, I've noticed a definite improvement in my mood and energy levels, but I still have considerable pain that radiates from below my ribs on the right side up beside my right shoulderblade, right side of my neck, and right jaw.
209384 tn?1231171906 I take calcium most of the time, but have had a couple of kidney stones and am not real crazy about taking it in big doses. They don't even hurt until this falls off and then OW! Am getting ready to take a pain pill and go to bed.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure which site I read it on but what I found interesting was that hypothyroidism weekens your muscles so if it causes you to snore and it causes constipation it makes logical sense that it disrupts food and liquid from processing efficiently; in other words your whole digestive system is out of whack which is why most people with thyroid troubles have blaoting ,gas, acid reflux, etc. Hope this helped in a small way- i'm still learning it all myself.
Avatar f tn actually, I'm on Synthroid for cancer supression and also for life bcz 1/2 thryoid out and other half went poof and won't work LOL ... oh well ..... I've had GB stones before thyroid issues and kidney stones before thyroid issues, too ... they say to keep in mind in my age that GB and kidney stones come with age (40's) ?????
Avatar f tn Hyperparathyroidism is the number one cause of kidney stones. Every person with a kidney stone should be tested for a problem with their parathyroid glands. Nearly half of all people with kidney stones have a parathyroid tumor in their neck that must be removed or the kidney stones will return.
Avatar n tn I have a family history of colon cancer and thyroid disorders, hyper and hypo. I have almost all the characteristics of having Hypothyroidism, but only a year ago my TSH was normal. I was wondering if the two disorders could be related? If anyone has any insight or knowledge, I would most appreciate it...
Avatar n tn I am having the same type of pain in my ankles and have hypothyroidism as well as issues with getting kidney stones and infections. They doctors have not stayed on top of my issues and I kinda feel like they put me on the back burner.
