82861 tn?1333457511 He appears to be about 2 years old, and we were told that dals have a tendency to develop bladder stones. I understand they need a chicken or lamb-based diet (no beef) and wonder what other dietary measures we need to take. Are there any supplements we should give him to help prevent stone formation? Maggie, our other pup, is a dal x lab mix, so is it correct to assume she likely has the same tendency and should be treated the same as Doc?

It is best to take her the vet first thing tomorrow for a urinalysis, X-Ray of the abdomen, and complete blood work. If she has bladder stones thay would have to be surgically removed. Bladder cancer is sometimes visible on abdominal X-Ray, or ultrasound, and is of course serious.

Avatar n tn Since then, the pain has continued and my urologist cannot find any stones in my ureter through x-ray and IVP. He believes that the small stones in my kidney cannot be causing the pain and the stone in my ureter must be gone. He is now telling me to have my ovaries checked. I do not believe for one second that it is anything but a kidney stone. You ALL know the pain. It is the same as it has always been.
Avatar f tn Stories like this make me so mad!! As for what can help you, I dont know..ive never had kidney stones but my mom and brother have and nothing helped them when they were in the worst of it either. The only thing i can suggest to you is this... can you get them removed /crushed via ultrasonic waves? I think they call it lithotripsy (sp?). THats what my mom had done..she sat in a hottub and ultrasonic waves thru the water shattered her stones.
Avatar f tn Should some of these enter the blood stream, the ONLY other organ that comes to the rescue is the kidney, that constantly filters the blood and this explains the dehydration, as the kidney now is working overtime filtering out the toxins using extra water. Water is the best detoxifying agent! Also another function of the kidneys is water regulation. When chronic conditions cause the kidney to overwork, kidney dysfunction is inevitable.
Avatar m tn I heard that both juices were supposed to be good, but that orange juice was actually the better of the two. But lemonaid was what the dr. recommended. After a year on the kidney stone anti-diet, I had more kidney stones. Told the dr. He said, "We really don't know what causes kidney stones to form.
Avatar n tn Though I have never seen a stone that I have passed, I have had pain that starts in the back, and moves to the groin area about every 6 months lasting a month or 2. My doctor told me to try to lay off chocolate, Cokes, and to take in lots of water and calcium. Everything I have read about stones says to slow down Calcium intake. Should I take in calcium or not? I have never really liked milk or taken supplements, so my calcium is probably low already.

Avatar m tn Hi. I have calcium oxalate stones. I know chocolate, tea, greens like salad & many veggies can contribute. You need a Nephrologist to do a workup. 24 hour urines can answer why the stones are forming. It could be something your born with, hypercalcuria and so many more. Good luck...
Avatar n tn These stents are supposed to help kidney stones pass, but stents often must be left in for the remainder of the pregnancy, and can cause extreme pain. Drink plenty of extra water, and avoid high oxalate foods such as nuts, dark leafy green vegetables, berries and chocolate. Drinking pure lemon juice freshly squeezed or from concentrate has been known to help dissolve kidney stones too. Keep in mind that pre-made lemonade drinks don't do the job.
Avatar f tn I had severe pain in my right side, was constipated, and nauseas. This particular time they found kidney stones, which passed. (I had an Xray, an ultrasound, and xray with dye). In July of 2007 I had another severe attack and was hospitalized with an infection for a week. It hurt so much that I could barely talk. They found another kidney stone and I was scheduled to have it removed in September. I had several more infections/ attacks between July and Sept.

Avatar n tn Less than 10% of asymptomatic patients may have a poor long term outcome due to kidney stones, kidney infections, and kidney failure. However, with the appropriate treatment for increased calcium and kidney stones, as well as prevention of infections and kidney failure, this number is reduced. You need to have close follow up with your doctors if you have any of the conditions described.
778803 tn?1244643952 I thought I recognized you from the Lupus forum. I guess that would be an interesting subject for a poll. "How many lupus patients have a tendacy to form kidney stones?" I had a stone in the left kidney, but an obstruction in the right ureter...which makes my kidney balloon out. I sometimes has spasms on the right side. I'm not sure if it is my kidney or muscles. It only happens occasionally. Usually when I've gone a while w/o going to the bathroom. Sounds like kidney to me.

Avatar n tn 05 I have been battling kidney stones since 1992 and have had a parathyroid tumor and it was removed and benign in 1995, I was recently seen at the University of Iowa Urology Clinic and diagnosed with MSK. I have done numerous blood studies and 24 hr urine collections and all my test come back within the normal limits. My question "Is there any cure for this and what is the long term outlook?" I appreciate any information that you may give me.Thankyou Marcia J.
