Common Questions and Answers about Kidney infection versus kidney stone

infection

Avatar n tn I have a Kidney stone that is still in the kidney. I have a Lithotripsy scheduled for Tuesday. The stone is about 4mm. Should I have the procedure done or let it pass on its own?
Avatar f tn it probably a stone there can be a stone without infection it 50/50 with me sometimes infection with stone and sometimes not.
Avatar f tn I would get a 2nd opinion to be sure it's agreed. See a kidney stone specialist. I'm not saying not to have this done, but be sure somebody with expertise working with MSK, etc. is doing it. It's invasive, too, as I understand versus a uteroscopy or uterolithotripsy.
489000 tn?1364302227 I had a bad case of pyelonephritis (kidney infection) this past week, I had to spend a night in the hospital. It was so painful, when I stood up, I could barely catch my breath. I had to walk hunched over until it let up a bit so that I could make it to the car. I thought for sure I had another kidney stone but they finally dx me with a kidney infection that had spread from my bladder. And to top things off, it took the nurses 7 tries to get an IV in me at 5am!
Avatar n tn In a person who has MSK, treatment mainly focuses on curing existing infection, removing any stones if present and preventing future urine infection and stone formation. Dietary changes and adequate intake of fluids may be helpful. It is best to consult an urologist and get your doubts clarified. Discuss your concerns with your treating doctor and do write to me again. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn I was recently diagnosed with a kidney infection, my right flank pain is still present and I still have spouts of feeling ill after taking 3 doses of my perscribed Anti-biotic (ciprofloxacin). My doctor told me that I should feel better within 24 hours so I was wondering if this is normal or if it is something I should be conserned about. How long after taking medication will my pain go away?
Avatar f tn pain is colicky I guess. She mentioned a kidney stone but seemed to think that the lack of blood in the urinalysis suggested no kidney stone. I haven't had any tests other than the urinalysis. But, again, the pain isn't unbearable as I would think it would be in the case of a kidney stone or even a kidney infection. It does seem to be radiating a little lower down my back than it did yesterday though. I don't know, the doc is calling me tomorrow to check on me.
Avatar n tn you probably passed the one on the right without knowing and new one formed on the left. Also a kidney infection will have the same symptoms as a stone, the only reason you have pain is because of blocked urine flow and swelling of the kidney which happens in infection and stones. If you haven't already you should really be seen by a doctor and have a CT scan done to tell which it is.
Avatar m tn hi ,i am 23 year old,i have a kidney stone 8mm at uvj,is it goes naturally?whats the remedy for it? j.
Avatar m tn Right back pain could be caused by musculoskeletal issues as well as infection. If there is history of kidney stone and you are a stone former, kidney stone is also possible. Urine test may help determine the underlying cause. If it persists, it is best that you talk to your attending physician about this for proper management. Take care and hope all is well. Do keep us posted and best regards.
Avatar m tn I have looked at symptoms of kidney infection and the only part that fits is the throbbing back pain. No fever, no nausea or vomiting, chills. I am fatigued, but I haven't been sleeping well because if the throbbing pain. I have been drinking plenty of fluids, cranberry juice and lots of water. I hate to waste the money on another doctor visit if they are just going to give me a muscle relaxer for back pain.
Avatar f tn Have you been checked for anything besides kidney infections? Like possibly a kidney stone. Do you have any blood in your urine? Do you have any other symptoms. For example - fatigue, body pain, sleep problems or anything out of the ordinary?
Avatar m tn Do any of the home remedies for passing a kidney stone really work or are they, as I suspect, a load of crap? Also, I have no medical insurance or means to pay for add'l trips to the hospital, I still haven't paid for the last trip, so unless or until it becomes life threatening going to the Doctor is not feasible. Thanks for any tips.
Avatar m tn Is it necessay to forcebly remove it ? What can be done for the 3 mm stone laying in the kidney ? Please give me your expert advice. Thankyou.
Avatar n tn Hi there, Kidney stones are common these days. A stone usually stays inside one of your kidneys, it usually doesn't cause a problem unless it becomes so large it blocks the flow of urine. This can cause pressure and pain, along with the risk of kidney damage, bleeding and infection. Smaller stones may partially block the thin tubes that connect each kidney to your bladder or the outlet from the bladder itself.
Avatar f tn t take any chances with any kidney stone he gets in the kidney he has left. Stones are removed quickly and he and his Urologist stay in close contact during any period involving a kidney stone. I wish you the best and please let us know how you make out.
Avatar f tn He has been to the hospital ,,they say its a infection and today he goes back for a cat scan of his kidney annd stomach area ..

But due to infection and various complication the surgery is postponed. My questions are do doctors generally perform two day surgeries to remove kidney stone and if the infection should have been treated before going in for surgery?

Avatar f tn Finding on MRI recommendation follow up with MRI with contrast to further evaluate complex cyst versus mass if sufficient kidney function. Had blood work and received a go ahead for second MRI awaiting scheduling. Why are so many studies needed for a diagnosis and referral to urologist?
11610581 tn?1419814808 If they did a urinealysis and found that your urine was clear (your words) then they probably meant that you had no blood in your urine and therefore you did not have a kidney stone. Usually with a kidney stone, although many times you can't see it with your naked eye, there will be blood in your urine. That is probably why they didn't do a Cat Scan, as they felt there wasn't a kidney stone causing your pain and problem.
Avatar n tn I have had half a dozen kidney stones in the last year or so. This definitely sounds like it could be a stone. The pain generally happens as the stone goes into the ureter and travels to the bladder. Once in the bladder, it doesn't usually hurt too much but may cause frequent urination, etc. If you don't have anymore pain, i would just strain your urine for awhile and wait to pass the stone. If you have more pain, you can go to the ER and have a scan done.
