My daughter is now experiencing several side effects to keppra. She is extremely drowsy, very short tempered, depressed, and is reporting to me that her memory is 'foggy'. She's on a very low dose of keppra, only 250 mg at night and 125 mg in the morning. She's been on it a total of 3 weeks now. I've been with her and she seems to be very melancholy and also short fused over the many situations. She weighs 100 pounds and is 20 years old.
Now he can only be described as disrespectful, disobedient, argumentative, rude and sometimes enraged. Hence ‘Keppra rage.’ He finally being weaned off Keppra and onto Vimpat. We pray that this is the answer. What happened to our silly, fun-loving, laid-back boy? Any idea that this is “just teenage hormones” is completely misguided. This is my fourth son and also fourth TEEN aged son.
I suffered with depression for 11 years and came of the medicine fully just before I went on Keppra, and yes I have days where I do feel depressed but with any illness you do have days where you feel depressed even suicidal. So my advice is don't necessarily put it down to Keppra. Talk to the doctor who prescribed Keppra to you and see if you can be referred to a Psychiatrist to talk it through and find out if it is the tablets!

I HAVE EPILEPSY AND I'M CURRENTLY TAKING KEPPRA TO CONTROL THE SEIZURES AND IT HAS BEEN TO THIS POINT. I'VE BEEN ON KEPPRA FOR OVER 10 YEARS BUT NOW I AM STARTING TO FEEL DEPRESSION SET IN. I REALIZE THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE SIDE EFFECTS AND I DON'T WANT GET OFF OF THE MEDICATION BECAUSE IT HAS WORKED SO WELL. IS THERE A VITAMIN THAT I COULD TAKE TO HELP CONTROL THE DEPRESSION? IF SO, WHAT VIAMIN?
I read something on rxlist about moodswings and irritibility related to Keppra. It's believed that Keppra makes your brain "dump" Vitamin B6 at times which lowers dopamine or seratonin levels and makes you feel horrible.
Does your daughter take vitamins? I'd try some Vitamin B6 if her multivitamin doesn't contain it. I started taking Trader Joe's High Potency vitamins and feel much, much better since starting.

The neurologist figured the Topamax just was not working and then put him on Keppra. (He was still taking 1 dilantin and weaned off that dilantin just before going on Keppra) I had him wean off the Topamax really slow, much slower than the neurologist wanted at first but neuro. gave us his ok to wean off slow. He also weaned on Keppra at a slow dosage. The Keppra worked ok and then he had a few other seizures, one he actually ended up w/ a compression fracture in his back.
No regarding your pregnancy, but did take Keppra for seizures caused by Temporal lobe tumor pre and post surgery. Side effects were a bit bizarre, including depression/temper tantrums that could be more challenging with your pregnancy. Hope you are doing well.
They are like a partial complex seizure. I saw a neurologist and was started on Keppra. I was up to 2,500mg a day and they were not stopping. I began to track them carefully and I believe I saw a pattern of only during the 2nd half of my monthly cycle, days 15 - 28 (and usually between 18 and 21) My neurologist decided to put me in the hospital to do a video EEG monitoring and I told him the dates it needed to be. We hit it right and it was determined that my seizures are NES.
Anyone else on Keppra to prevent myoclonic jerks (JME diagnosed)? I am, and have been on Keppra for almost 5 years. Started at age 23 and I am now 28. At the beginning they made me very sluggish, but after about 2 months I felt wonderful (since it was the first time in my life I wasn't having seizures!!
My name is Joy and in 2000 I had a very large frontaltemporal meningioma removed by surgery I was lucky that I had a lot of medical training was an emt for 12 years and I recognized I was seriously ill and thought it was a brain tumor long story short I had a dr who kept telling me it was only job stress. At the time I was working at a medium security mens prison. Not stressful for me at all its just how you deal with life. Being a take c harge person I fired the quack dr.
After a very frightening last 2 weeks of my boyfriend on Keppra my doctor did say to ween him off which I've done. Today is the first day off it and he still seems to have the dillusional aggressive side effects that I am hopeful after reading your post.....I pray to god that the old person before this drug comes back. How was those last few weeks for your son?
I have only been on it for 3weeks. I really am struggling with the side effects. Rining in ears, dry mouth, depression, and many other not good side effects. Did you notice and change in time (that you took keppra) with the side effects. Did it get better or worse? They want to add lamitcal to the keppra and I am thinking I should just ride the keppra out and see if I can get use to the sides I am experiencing now. Anybody with any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!
(Do doctors not talk at all??) Now I am being treated on straight Keppra and am feeling the same things,tingling and numbness plus severe tiredness and weakness. All of my levels are normal though. Also feeling severe emotions,maybe it's just depression from the lack of being able to function? Have any of you noticed that most of the epilepsy medications are for mental disorders?
After surgery, she had a short episode of slurred speech so her neurosurgeon prescribed Keppra. It has been one month and now she is showing signs of bradycardia and sick sinus syndrome. Her cardiologist is considering a pace maker. The only other medications that she takes are estrogen (post hysterectomy) and synthroid (treating hypothryroidism). Could the Keppra be causing the new cardiac problems? Would a trial period of stopping the Keppra help?
he needs to get tests..........the only thing I say is please don't put him on diliantin. That gives you cerebellar (shirnks the one side of your brain) put him on Keppra. My doctor put me on Keppra instead of Dilantin....I was already on diamox and tegratol. Now I'm taking keppra,diamox and tegertol and my seizers are under control, they will never be gone for good.
Due to brain damage from surgery I have temporal lob seizures I was put on gabapentin and depression occurred. I am looking for something that would control the seizures without depression. Help with any idea! Thanks
Would Dilatin help with this type of seizure?
Was on lamicatal er when shaking started on right side of body but had a allergic reaction to it..
I to have been taking Keppra and told can't drive for six months, yesterday my Oncologist informed me that only a Neurologist can authorize driving and I will need to probably get off keppra to get permission to drive. Was also informed that you can not just stop this drug.
