Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain one side swollen gland

jaw-pain

Avatar n tn My jaw hurts underneath almost like a swollen gland. I also have canker sores inside my left side of mouth which I think is from biting the inside of my mouth while I sleep. What can I do for the pain. Is this TMJ or just stress?
Avatar m tn A mouth ulcer does not cause a sore jaw. Your sore jaw and swollen gland is likely to be from a viral or bacterial infection. Wisdom teeth that have a problem to grow out from the gum can cause swelling on the side of the mouth of the growing tooth and can cause painful jaw.
Avatar m tn Lymph nodes are not swollen and the pain comes and goes. Driving me crazy. Starting to think salivary gland is blocked as my.mouth is a bit dry.
299912 tn?1341623100 I noticed last night while in the shower that there was a swollen lump directly behind the curve in my jaw on the right side of my face (in between the back of the jaw and almost below my ear). Initially, I thought it might be a lymphnode until I researched it and determined that it is most likely the parotid. It is only slightly larger than the left and is tender (mildly) but only it you push on it and then a little while thereafter.
Avatar m tn Typically the submandibular gland will swell without any pain, whereas swollen lymph nodes typically do exhibit pain of some sort. As a general rule of thumb, if you touch it and move it around and it feels stationary, as if it is stuck to something, I would do much further research into it.
Avatar n tn I have one bumpy spot on the skin of the inside of my left cheek and my dentist just said it was an opening of my gland, but it is not like that on the other side. He also said I have some TMJ issues, but would that cause my glands to swell and hurt? I also have had a metallic taste in my mouth for a couple of months now. Since I've kind of always had these problems, is this something I should be seen for?
Avatar n tn The gland under my jaw, on the left side is swollen. What, exactly is going on? I had the area X-rayed, and nothing showed up. I'd like to know how long this pain is going to last. I am taking Advil and Vicodin to stop the pain.
Avatar m tn My doctor seemed to think that it may have been a dental problem, but I had no pain in my teeth. Is the gland that is swollen closer to the ear or more under the jaw? Is it actually a lymph node or could it be the submandibular gland? If it is possible that it is this one then it could be caused by an infection in that gland as well as a clog in the saliva ducts. At least that is what my doc also hypothesized.
1748247 tn?1311799602 I have discovered that there is a lump right under the ear where the jaw connects. That whole side of my face is swollen, hot and painful. It is also triggering headaches and causing the muscles from my jaw and all the way to my left shoulder to swell! One other thing I have noticed is that a small part of my left side of my tongue is going numb. Should I be at the doctors tomorrow or the emergency? I don't smoke, don't drink, I don't take any illegal drugs.
Avatar n tn It had not really bothered me but lately I have had horrible pain in my jaw and ear on that side. My teeth on that side of my mouth throb in general. It feels like tmj but I am not sure. I also have noticed that my spit gland located under my ear and in the area of where the jaw hinges is either swollen or has some sort of soft movable lump on it. I am getting headaches too. Could all of this be caused by that impacted wisdom tooth?
Avatar f tn For atleast a year ive had a swollen node just below my jaw which aches and can get quite uncomfortable. I have been to the doctor who said to go back in 3 weeks. I did that on the 23rd dec, and he felt it again, looked at my salivary glands too said they were fine however that my swollen gland felt firm. It moves, but he said it feels like a jelly bean rather than a jelly baby! He mentioned cancer to me since i am not ill with an infection amd has referred me on to the ent specialists.
Avatar f tn It is there every day but sometimes it is far worse. It is always swollen just along the top of my jaw/bottom of my cheek. I had thyroid cancer 5 years ago and had a complete thyroidectomy. 14 lymph nodes were removed and 3 had cancer. I was on levoxyl but was switched to synthroid when levoxyl was no longer available. I noticed the swelling around the time of the med change. My thyroid Dr. says there is no relation.
Avatar n tn Mac our cat visited thhe Vet today with a swollen left side of her mouth. The vet advised he did not know what is was, maybe a tumor. The vet examined her very vigourously and she did not resist or complain. It would appear that it does not hurt her. This has persisted over 3 weeks, swelling up then reducing down, and swelling up again. Reducing down. She is eating but not as usual. Water intake is normal.
Avatar n tn I have severe throat pain on left side mainly underneath jaw and at bottom of throat. Seems to be set off by acidic foods, or swallowing bulky rough items. I have never had a sore throat like this before -- I have no other symptoms no cold, no runny nose, no cough etc. It has not gotten any better after a kind of 2 day onset 6 days ago. Yawning really hurts severely.
Avatar f tn For a couple months now I've had a swollen submandibular gland on the right side only. It seems to fluctuate somewhat in size from day to day, but is always swollen and always bigger than the one on the left (where I can't feel it at all.) I feel like it makes my throat feel tight sometimes. I first noticed it about 3 months ago, I don't know if it was swollen before that.
Avatar f tn My pains were on one side of my face only affecting top and bottom jaw, inside ear burning, outside ear like someone was poking a sharp instrument, headache from temple to the back of my neck and swollen tongue that made any contact with my mouth very painful. I suffered almost every day for 6 months with little relief in that period. I was due to goto a health farm in Brazil and prior to flying (I was dreading the 30+ journey to the destination) I went for a regular clean up to dentist.
Avatar f tn Hey, im 22 and ive had a swollen gland unerneath the right side of my jaw for about a year and a half now. One day i was shaving and i just kinda noticed it there, it didn't have any pain to the touch, wasn't tender or anything. But none the less went to the doctor, pointed it out, he gave it a couple pokes and passed it off as a swollen gland from a fever that i had, had recently. Gave me Penacillin for it, and said it should be back to normal soon.
Avatar m tn Although I dont have any muscle ache now, but i do have a swollen submandibular gland that alternates between right and left side of the neck and gives pain in the ear. so what can it be? I am sorry for troubling you but whats your thought on my condition.
1463533 tn?1286055554 Hi....your scenario is what mine was for over a year...right side nodule...got bigger and it was due to Hashi as well as "Thyroiditis" (inflammation of the thyroid gland")..this will cause extreme pain in the jaw and up through the ear. I lived through constant bouts of it...my only therapy was prednisone and taking my synthroid 75...
Avatar n tn and my neck is seriously tight and lower end is swollen on the left side with difficulty in moving and swear burning ear pain. plz attach this question to the one above.
Avatar m tn I woke up yesterday morning with one side of my face swollen. It feels hard and bumpy just below my ear and it causes discomfort when I try to eat. Can you tell me what it might be?
Avatar f tn But just below my cheek bone and a thumbs length from the ear is a pain. Smack dab where I would think my salivary gland is. Just one side and just there, not the gland along the front of the ear or the jaw. I have no clue if I should tough it out and see if it goes away on its own, see my primary care, see a dentist, see an ENT. I'm pretty POSITIVE its not dental since I go every 6 months to care for my teeth. Odd part, it gets worse at night and better during the day.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, I've noticed for the past day now that right under my jaw (left side) and right above my neck, I feel a bump under my skin. I'm not sick or anything, I'm not allergic to anything, or I'm in college and doing the same routine every day. I can sort of feel it, but it doesn't hurt at all. I just googled "bump under jaw" and came across this article: http://www.webmd.
