Jaw pain after heart bypass

Common Questions and Answers about Jaw pain after heart bypass

659608 tn?1318289366 I had Rheumatic fever as a young child, and have never been told I had any heart damage. I have heart attacks in my family, my brother has had several bypass surgeries, and has a difibullar in place, and his heart is working at 20%. Is there a possibility this could be heart related, or is there some other cause? I would appreciate comments from anyone who has had this or knows someone who has.
Avatar m tn Basically, the drill ,is to stop walking and call 911. No if's but's or maybe's. Jaw pain and pain down the left arm and shortness of breath is indeed a hallmark of cardiac ischemia, but not always. You are grossly overweight, and that issue should be addressed. The term "heart attack" is meaningless. In any event changes in the EKG are transient and you must be evaluated while you have the pain or shortly thereafter.
Avatar n tn I am a 53 yr old female. I have been getting odd symptoms. Pain that starts along my jaw bone and spreads quickly to my chest (Like a really bad case of heartburn) where I have trouble taking deep breaths without pain. I break out in a sweat and feel panicy. It only lasts for a short time but it is starting to worry me. I also have occasional left upper arm pain. Does this sound like heart attack symptoms?
1769997 tn?1313941848 I am a 53 yo male who has heart disease. I have over 40 stents as well as 2 bypass surguries. I have since developed tremendous chest pain that radiates down my left arm and up to my jaw. It comes out of nowhere and is sometimes a 10 out of 10. Nitro does nothing when it is ramped up so high. I have been in the ER 12 of the last 30 days and it is not only embarrasing but it *****. I have been told each time the ECG is good and the traponin levels are good as well as chest x rays are all good.
Avatar f tn My dad has right arm pain after eating. It starts in bicep and spreads to thumb and then radiates up in chest and jaw. Three days ago he had two discs replaced in his neck, four bone spurs removed, and two pinched nerves released. This was all done in his neck. He is now saddened because after eating only two bites of ice cream his severe arm pain has begun again. What is happening? He has suffered with this four years and has had many tests run and xrays.
Avatar n tn About a year ago I started getting chest, upper back, shoulder and jaw pain. I noticed that the jaw and arm pain in particular seemed to be more prominent about 10 minutes into exercising. I had a stress echo which was normal. Pain is on and off, both with and without exertion. Forward to Summer... the discomfort while exercising seems more prominent again. Went to a second cardiologist for a 2nd opinion and had another stress test. All results were normal.
Avatar m tn am i really at risk for suffering a heart attack at my young age? i have recently felt a little left shoulder and back and jaw tightness that comes and goes. i dont know if it is related or not. well, that is my story guys,i hope that someone can advise me.
Avatar f tn One thing I did notice from my bypass experience is that although all the usual pains had gone after around 12 months, it was still very easy to pull muscles after that for about another year. It took a very long time for my chest muscles to fully recover to the point that I had the same strength as before the bypass. I met other patients in cardiac rehab who had received bypass surgery as far back as five years and still found odd chest pains in the muscles.
Avatar f tn I do have a lot of neck pain that extends down my back and into my jaw as well and have been told that this can contribute to chest pain. I'm honestly running out of ideas. I had a follow up with my cardiologist and he said that he is confident that there is nothing wrong with my heart, but I can't help worrying about it. My father had a bypass at 40 and my grandmother had a quad-bypass as well. I had my cholesterol checked and it was normal, but my triglycerides were 239.
Avatar n tn Don't get too concerned too quickly. My CABG was about 5 years ago so the memory of it is slowly fading, but I feel pretty sure that the tiring easily is just about normal for 4 months post surgery. I vividly remember all the "symptoms" I had back then. Arm pain, jaw pain, back pain, leg pain, getting winded, etc. etc. etc.. As it turned out, most (if not all) were just in my head, not in my body.
Avatar m tn An MI (heart attack) by definition means heart cell damage due to lack of oxygenated blood flow to heart muscle to portion of the heart in question. Heart cell damage does not always mean there is permanent damage as heart cells could have been stunned or hybernating and not necrotic. There can be a heart attack (MI) without any symptoms. I didn't know I had had a heart attack until I had the symtoms of heart failure!
Avatar n tn Recently I had a stent put into a branch and it was close to the main artery and the Dr said the plaque shifted. He ballooned the main artery and I felt fine. After a few days of being fine I had a sudden onset of chest pressure and jaw pain and it was relieved with 2 nitroglycerin. I've noticed chest pressure since then sometimes with jaw pain, sometimes without and burning at times under my sternum.
Avatar n tn I had all sorts of cardiac tests (short of angiogram) that showed within normal limits Ejection fraction was normal but still I had these increasing symptoms of jaw pain relieved by rest. I remember having a neck ultrasound about 2-3 years ago wherein the technician told me that I have a subclavian steal. I had symptoms of upper arm weakness that dates back years and years before my quadruple bypass 13 years ago. Could it be that this subclavian blockage has been there for a long long time?
Avatar n tn Also, the blockage is located distally and may be of little significance to the overall functionality of the heart and may be the area of dead heart cells. A stent or CABG would be of no benefit. Stents can be implanted in grafts. For some insight, vein grafts are more susceptible to closing up than the Internal Mammary Artery (IMA).The terms single bypass, double bypass, triple bypass, quadruple bypass and quintuple bypass refer to the number of coronary arteries bypassed in the procedure.
Avatar m tn Does this sound right to you all? The only symptom I have is jaw pain, and it only comes with high exertion (no jaw pain when walking or on elliptical machine. Only get it when running). So, it is stable angina at this point. Just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I'm on meds for cholesterol, etc. Just wanted to make sure this was all correct and that I'm doing the right thing. I'm in my mid-thirties.
Avatar f tn Has anyone experienced pain in the shoulders and arms for months after bypass surgery? It has been close to 4 months and the pain still is severe in my arms and shoulders when I lift my arms to do any work or just put on my jacket.
242440 tn?1264519844 I have had similar chest pressure, back pain, and shortness of breath as I had prior to the bypass for the last two weeks. Good to know that the test isn't accurate regarding the area bypassed, but given the symptoms I am still concerned. Hope the cath is normal - not sure what to do if not. I will tell them not to stent anything if they do find something, and I'll try the meds. Thanks for the advice.
Avatar f tn Your husband has been through some serious medical conditions, and hopefully the ct scan can get to the underlying cause of the present symptom. If you have any specific questions, subsequent to the ct scan don't feel free to ask.
1399500 tn?1280668886 Hi. I had the stent deal when I was 42 so I can relate to your concerns. Before I go on, remember that every person is a unique case. Unfortunately in mine, the stent wasn't enough and I had to have a single bypass. I was very freaked about it (and everyone in the hospital was asking why I was in there at my age). In my case I had a clot that no one could explain since my heart was healthy in every other way.
Avatar m tn let me give you some more details for two months i had pain that went up my stomach into my chest to my jaw one morning woke up with a bad pain in the back went a way but did not feel well the next day went to see my doctor bad ekg sent me to er. kept me in hospital for weekend im what they called a safe mode when monday came they did a angogham and they found 2 blockages the worst wa what they called the L.
Avatar f tn s breastbone. Once the heart is exposed, the patient is connected to a heart-lung bypass machine. The machine takes over the pumping action of the heart. This allows surgeons to operate on a still heart. The most common type of open heart surgery for adults is coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). During CABG, surgeons use healthy arteries or veins taken from another part of the body to bypass (that is, go around) blocked arteries.
Avatar n tn m not the best person to advise you on the long term outlook with a bypass, as my two vein grafts closed after just 3 months. However, the grafted artery (lima) is still fine. The reason I jumped in here is to offer some advice on monitoring your bypass. When I felt comfortable enough to walk after the surgery, I chose a 30 minute route which I walked religiously every day.
