Common Questions and Answers about Januvia vs victoza

januvia

Avatar f tn They are not controlling my diabetes. She wanted me to try Victoza and give up the Januvia. I got over fear of giving myself the shot, but on the 3rd day I began to get sick. On the 4th and 5th days I couldn't even go to work. Changed shot to before bed instead of morning and it made no difference. After a little over a week I stopped it. Lost 5 lbs cause I couldn't eat anything. So she said she may have me try Lantus if Victoza didn't work.
Avatar m tn Being a Veteran and on VA benefitsI was barely able to afford Victoza by purchasing from Canada, since the US Government (Bamacare) stopped shipments of that med from Canada I had to purchase it from a US distributor at twice the price, can't afford it and it's replacement Januvia isn't working, Blood Sugar in the 200s and gaining weight. Any suggestions???
1236243 tn?1277680851 my doctor just took me off Januvia and put me on a Victoza Pen, is this a smart move? and will this work better?
Avatar m tn I have been on Victoza for years and didn't think I had any side effects and my sugar levels were the best they've been in years so I have been really happy with doing the daily injections. I started out on the lowest dose,0.6. Gradually the dosage increased to 1.2. Just recently I was taken off of Glyburide and increased my Victoza dosage to the larger dose. My doctor thought this would help me to lose weight since I've been gaining, not losing.
Avatar f tn I have been on Victoza for 2 weeks. I begin the new amt. this p.m. 1.8. We have decrmy Lantus to 10eased units in the even. and 1/2 Amaryl in the a.m. and p.m. I also take Januvia 100mg, and 2000 mg Metformin a day. My A1c has been 6.6 for a few years now, but have moved and have a new Dr. who wanted me to try the Victoza. My BS are running 154 (No lower) to as high as 272. OCCASIONALLY I might have a reading as high as 272 (My B'day celebration had to many sweets) :(.
Avatar m tn Sorry to be getting back to you after all these months. I am maintaining a stage 3 and was on a 3 month regiment of vitamin d and we also eliminated metformin. I take Amaryl now, instead.. My blood glucose was out of control but my PCP put me on Victoza. That seems to be helping with the exception of BS levels being very low in the morning. My PCP has suggested she might take me off the Amaryl and just have me take more insulin along with the Victoza and Januvia.
Avatar n tn Byeta is a class of drugs called insulin mimetics. This includes Byeta/ Bydureon, Victoza, Januvia, among others. Maybe your Dr can check if any of the others are covered and may be of help for you. If you cannot get these drugs, you may want to try a low carb diet (low carb, moderate protein, and fat for balance of energy). Some people find this way of eating helps both blood sugar control and weight management.
Avatar f tn I also have hypothyroidism (hashimotos). I take synthroid 100mg since 1995, Victoza injection, januvia, and hazaar and b12 2000 mg sublingual, b9, and biotin for the last year. I went to a dentist and a salivary gland specialist and they don't think it's a big deal! The ent prescribed rubinol to dry up the saliva which I haven't taken yet. I have even thought about making my front 6 teeth longer to keep from spitting on people when I talk!

Avatar m tn I have Type 2 Diabetes and was put on Victoza yesterday, my doctor wants me to take this for weight loss. I would just like to know if anyone has lost weight or has had any side effects while taking this medication. I was on Byetta but the nausea never stopped and I felt bad all of the time. I took my first dose this morning of Victoza and so far there has been no nausea--I just hope it lasts. Any comments on this medication would greatly be appreciated.
Avatar n tn I had to change to Byetta in about 2 weeks (finished Victoza sample and insurance would only pay for Byetta). I developed nausea at the smaller dose of Victoza, and never used the larger dose. The nausea was unchanged with the change of meds.....and I have lost a LOT of weight (29 pounds). But the nausea started within a day or two of starting it. At least for me.

Avatar f tn So, when my doctor told me about victoza and its weight loss benefits I was extremely excited about this revolutionary drug that would help lower my blood sugar level, AND LOSE WEIGHT at the same time. In the beginning, Victoza was God sent to me. My apetite decreased and I dropped 15 pounds in about 4-6 months. And I did not experience nausea at any time. Then, all of a sudden the weight loss stopped. My weight loss became stagnated and have been ever since.
Avatar n tn When I got sick I attributted it to the Victoza increase. My doctor told me to go off of Victoza for a couple days, go to the low dose for a couple days, increase to the next dose for a couple days and then go back to the larger dose and see if it makes me ill so that I can rule out the Victoza. I've been off of Victoza for 2 days now and I haven't needed any medication (Zantac, Tums, Pepto-Bismol, etc.) for my stomach at all.
Avatar f tn The FDA has asked Novo Nordisk [the maker of Victoza] to perform a 5 year study to see if there is a link between Victoza and thyroid cancer.
2125647 tn?1338651465 Just wanted to say how hard and frustrated I was stuck at 215 down from 245 at my top weight. Went to see my Dr. who told me he went to a convention and mentioned maybe Victoza would help. I was so frightened to take daily needles and thought I just cannot do that to myself, but I decided to try it for my health because I am now pre diabetic and don't want to advance into quote status : diabetic My father just had his toes amputated and I don't want that in my future.
Avatar m tn This could be a side effect (though rare) of Victoza. The treatment of this would be to stop the Victoza, not to take another medication (antianxiety) to counter the effect. Antianxiety meds also have their own side effects. The effect that you describe could also be allergic reaction. Please stop taking the med and talk to your doctor asap.
Avatar f tn Well, victoza will start off making you have nausea, vomiting sometime. You will get past this, it can take up to three months. After that I just kind of never felt right but thought I was just going to have to deal with this the rest of my life! Than about at 10 to 12 months I started to have severe stomach pain which I thought was my gall bladder. I was probably having pancreatic attacks, but never went to the hospital to have blood work; very stupid idea by the way.
Avatar n tn I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar n tn I'm a type II diabetic, diagnosed in 2001. I have been on victoza since around November of 2011. I wasn't considered overweight (147 and 5'7" tall). I have lost nearly 23 pounds and can't stop losing, it seems. My lack of appetite is real concerning to me as well as the other side effects and the effects on my liver and kidneys. I would love to get off this drug for sure.
Avatar n tn Could Metformin cause thinning or hair loss? I started two Metformin 500 mg a day last May. Went on a locarb, no processed foods or alcohol diet. Lost 30#'s. End of August, switched to one Metformin ER 500 mg a day cause my A1C went from 7.4 down to 5.2 in 3 1/2 months. I have thought of a vitamin or iron deficiency, but I eat a lot of healthy foods and haven't lost weight beyond the 30#'S I lost last summer. I read that some people on here think Victoza caused their hair loss.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know what type of reaction one is likely to get by mixing Metformin and Victoza with meds for Hep C? These are non insulin meds. I am particularly interested in the interaction with Victoza which is a good stabilizer. Both of these meds can cause some stomach distress.
Avatar n tn i m asking as haw the use of sitaglipin help in conlrolling the sugar levels.
Avatar f tn After initial diagnosis I was able to control this very well, and I was started on Metformin and Victoza - I brought my A1C down to a 7 from a 10. In the last 6 months my blood sugar numbers have gone up suddenly to A1C 8.8 despite no change to medication etc, and over the last 6 weeks I have had unusual lower leg swelling. Also, now my "liver enzymes & function are at 86." Of course the nurse didn't specify which, but they sent me for an upper quadrant ultrasound.
