If it doesnt get better, go get an x-ray just to make sure. Also, if you cant possibly extend your finger of the knuckle your jammed without serious pain, it might be broken. The black and blue mark will get worse as the days go by but ice it tonight really good and see what happens tomorrow. If it burns and stings real bad it might be broken.
I jammed my left (non-dominant) pinky finger and now the top of the finger is bent down towards my palm (from the top knuckle). A little discomfort in palm and top of hand. The bent portion above the top knuckle refuses to go back into place. Could it be broken? If jammed and I splint it, will it correct itself eventually? Don't want to spend 3 hrs in the ER and end up with a splint I can do from home. Thanks.
I think I jammed my finger yesterday. I was tucking in my shirt and heard a pop, and then felt sharp pain in my index finger. Looking at it I noticed the top knuckle is bent in the direction it should bend at about a 45 deg. angle, but it will not straighten. It stays bent at 45 deg. even if I try to straighten out my finger. There isn't a lot of pain. It was numb last night and is still not 100%. The only pain and swelling are actually on the middle knuckle. What should I do?
Also when I lay my hand flat on the table and hold down my finger from the third to second knuckle the remainder of the finger 3nd knuckle and above can bend backwards while the uninjured finger can not. Which seems to me like it could be broken or ripped tendon granting it increased mobility.
I don't want to get an xray without just cause because my mom thinks I am overreacting and don't want to go an end up proving her right.
I jammed my finger on wed. and have been unable to see a doctor due to lack of insurance. My finger bends (not completely or with ease) and the swelling went down considerably after the first day. However there is a little numbness and swelling and the underside of the middle knuckle (the one that i believe got the blow) is very purple and bruised. This may simply be a jammed finger or it could be an injury to the collateral ligaments or volar plate. The numbness may be bruising of the small sensory nerve to the finger tip, the digital nerve. If there is no gross deformity or instability, "buddy taping" (taping to the adjacent finger, with one thin strip of tape above the knuckle and one below) will be useful for support and to encourage motion. In the the case of even a jammed finger, swelling may persist for some time.
I am a cheerleader for my high school and while stunting I stubbed/jammed my thumb and ever sense then it has been hurting. I have a high pain tolerance so i really cant tell how bad it is. Well in basketball I got pushed, fell on my right hand (hand I write with) and I cannot put any pressure nor weight on it. There is NO way I can bend it. ok first things first. The knuckle above my right middle finger is swollen. This is due to me constantly hitting hard surfaces. i have no pain in that particular finger or knuckle or any part of the hand but i cant fully raise my right ring finger. It gets to about half way and i cannot raise it anymore unless i force it up with my other hand. Apart from that i have full use of my right hand and no pain in or around the knuckle or finger. m a 28 year old female and I have been having swelling, stiffness and pain of my right index finger knuckle for over 2 years. It started off as a little right itchy bump on my knuckle (it kind of looked like a welt) and it felt like it was on fire. I noticed it would flare up when it would rain and there was high humidity. From there it has progressed to swelling and it is usually stiff. It has been swollen for so long now that it has started to deform my joint.

In the eight grade my mom took me to a doctor that told her that my finger did break and that the bone healed eight degrees off. After six months of trying to buddy tape it and splint it, the bone only moved two degrees. The doctor recommended surgery to pin and straighten out the bone and my mom decided on getting me the surgery.
After initial swelling of my whole finger and tendon pain, I remain with a swollen knuckle and below the knuckle but the top of my finger is normal. I cannot bend it as far as my other fingers and it is painful to go past 90 degrees with it. Will it heal on its own, or is there a way to prevent permanent limitations of it?
material if you will. ive had many stiches and some were placed on my middle finger on the middle knuckle and there was a small peice of stuture left in there. now that part of my finger, on top, has a puss pocket that pops all the time and stings a bit but the worst part is that my finger looks jammed. It looks like there is a lot of swelling just in the middle joint but there is no bruising just slight redness. Non of my other fingers are like that.
2 days ago I suddenly devoped pain in my left index finger at the knuckle. I can touch it and its ok, but if I move it at all in any direction, it hurts pretty bad. Late yesterday it started hurting some in the knuckle where my finger joins my hand, top and bottom. Its sore feeling in that area when I touch it. A vein on the right side of the finger is bulging out some and it seems to be slightly swollen. I can bend it, it just hurts.
Did you ever find an answer? I just woke up with this exact same thing. Right hand, ring finger, sore between my joint closest to Palm. Really feels like I've jammed my finger but all I did was sleep.
Index finger on right hand swollen and painful to bend.. Hard to tell if pain is first or second knuckle.. Swelling is mostly at base of finger.. No warmth or redness noted.. Have "skiers" thumb for about a month now.. Just woke up and boom thumb was swollen at base.. Finger was little stuff and next morning swollen and painful.. As long as it's straight there is no pain.. Getting old is for the birds!!
I have a friend in Virginia who had the exact trouble in the knuckle of her middle finger. She did'nt cut it open, but she soaked it in warm salt water, advice she'd gotten from an elderly woman at her church. After she soaked it the pain became unbearable & she went to her Dr. His diagnosis was Gout. He performed outpatient surgery to remove the infection. She's fine now, but she had a rough time of it. She's 82 years old.
A couple nights ago I punched the wall because i was mad, my middle finger is still swollen and my knuckle hurts really bad and its swollen. So I don't know if I did something to my knuckle and I really don't want to see a doctor. Any answers??
I punched a wall and its all swollen around the side of my hand and my pinky knuckle and ring finger knuckle and my mom said my pinky finger looks a little odd. It hurts to move my hand and finger and its sometimes gets this kind of numb tingling feeling. It throbs and aches a lot and sometimes the throbbing goes up to my arm along with a shooting pain every now and again. I can barely move my pinky finger.
