When I delivered my second baby 2 years ago I didnt have anything, but about 45min after the delivery they gave me fentanyl (which i was told is the replacement for stadol nowadays) because i had to have the doc scrape tissue out of my uterus because i was hemmohraging. But it (fentanyl) was really calming, although I'm not sure how much 'pain relief' it actually provided. I had stadol with my first 9 years ago and hated it, I felt drunk/high/loopy and it just made me tired.

I am not going to lie, it was painful but its totally doable! I got a little nubaine in my iv to take the edge off but you still can feel what is going on. My first I had an epidural but they shut it off so I was basically pushing with nothing. Good luck.

When it wore off I went into grand mal siezure. Figured out in the ER I was having opiate withdrawal. I was on IV delaudid 10 days prior to being given the fentanyl for discharge. I had no idea what I was missing or that I was going through withdrawal.

on the 5th day i got upto 40 mills of methadone and it all calmed down so thats the stage im at now 40 mills of meth then im coming of the meth and going onto sebetex next but i hope the change this time isnt going to be as bad as the fentanyl change iv come of off just about every drug in my time but that realy was the worst time iv ever had sorry i just got a phone call and lost my train of thought yeah very happy so far .

Dear uscoastie, Unfortunately, Fentanyl can usually only be dected through GCMS testing. Fentanyl is in the same class as Morphine, however, it is synthetic and does not metabolize like other opiates, ie Vicodin, Morphine, Codeine. The urine test is testing for metabolites, ie norhydrocodone, hydromorphone. It depends on the test that is being used and that the assay cutoff is for that particular test.

What if they give me a benzo with it? Which im sure they are going to do in the IV. How long does it take to get the suboxone out of my system so it wont effect thw fentanyl or benzo? Like today I did only a small half and my appt is next friday.

s harder than normal labor but anyway I was in labor 22 hours and she ripped me front to back and no epidural I had iv drugs they didn't take all the pain away or even moat but took some away to where it helped me enough to get through it and baths I took alot of warm soaking baths nutses just have to keep eye on water going up to make sure doesn't get to the baby is all and cold wash cloth on face and was well worth it ...

I have had many IVs in my life, but when I was in labor with my daughter that IV was the easiest, because you are more concentrated on the contractions than the needle. They put my IV in and taped it down so that I could still walk around. It was nice.

It now makes perfect sense to me why you are in so much pain on the Fentanyl. Converting 360 mg of Oxycontin to Fentanyl results in 150 mcg/hr...this is conservative. that wasent working baring in mind im flat on my back paralised at this point it was the same pain i get now its unbelivibly painfull but when i get up it goes but at the time i was in hospital i couldnet move so the pain got worse thay put me on fentanyl 200 mills then at the same time put me on a bed that moved up and down electricly at the same time thay put me on fentanyl so iv woke up with 200 mills on and the bed was in the upright position i wasent in pain anymore thay and me thought that

Hi im in labor now was 3cm 5hrs ago with waters bulging. Any advice on ways to cope with the pain? Iv had some panadol but didn't work and I want to hold off using any gas or anything until im further along. Im only 35 weeks n 4days so they really want my contractions to stop but its not going to happen thats for sure lol. So far iv just been breathing thru the pain deep breathes until the pain is over but is there anything anyone has tried thats helped them in the early stages.

A very strong narcotic....Fentanyl is very addcitive as is even worse to detox from....My brother in law over dosed by cutting a patch in half and eating it! Yes, you will still experience withdrawals until the Fentanyl has a chance to absorb into your system....Most likely they gave you transdermal patches and they absorb through the skin.... This all depends what you want to do.....If you TRULY want to get off of narcotic pain relievers then throw them away!

monday i had a hard w/d but sedate my self with xanax valium and carmabazepine i got on prescription. yesterday i felt better but i made in fentanyl iv with 10% of an old patch i used only 12 hours and today same. my question is:WILL WIThDRAWAL COME BACK AFTER THIS 2 SHOTS?

I know everyone has to learn but a woman in labor is not the right Guinea pig lol. When I got induced with my first I let a trainee do mine it took almost 15 mins and hurt like hell!

Is it truly necessary? I had an IV the other day and just having it in my hand hurt so freaking bad. I didn't wanna move my hand. How does anyone go through labor with that in their hand??

It's important to have an IV just in case something happens and they need to act quick. I'm a nurse but I don't work in labor and deliver so I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you can refuse it. They only do it for precautions and to give you iv fluids n medications if needed. It's all for the baby's safely and yours and to help you have a comfortable experience. Just let them know from the beginning you are nervous about needles...

could i be in labor? iv been havign constant back pain for 2 hours now and my stomache will get hard one minute then stop and im having alot of pelvic pressure. i am 30 weeks pregnant and i called the dr and said if it doesn't get better in an hr then i might need to go to the hospital but he won't stop labor if i truly am in labor. i need advice.

Absolutely terrified of this.. Not scared of anything else in the labor process exept this. Can someone please explain where it goes and does it really hurt ? Everytime I have to get blood drawn they say it hurts and it's a huge needle.. True or false :O ?

im an adict i was clean for 5 years i had a freak act of nature hapend and my kidneys and liver gave up on me the hospital put me on fentanyl and oxycodone iv been on a high dose sins june last year i fill like poo im not myself and the fact i was clean for 5 years im realy unhappy i fill worse of now than any outher drug iv taken before perscribed drugs are a hole noughther ball game and i dont no wear to start any ideas coz i cant live like this much longer

d have is that the GI tract absorbs medicines in oral liquid form quite quickly - unless in a time release form - thereby reducing the slow release quality of the patch. I would think there would be more "highs" and "lows" of the medicine's effects. Even though many of us find the patch problematic - it sure is a great way to deliver the med evenly over time.

I had a great talk with my OB and she said that she doesn't dose the epidural with any pain medication, which I'm completely happy about no painkillers. I'd watched on a few childbirth videos where they mixed in fentanyl with the epidural and the women were itchy and I'm not good with itchy! It really sounds like she was either extremely exhausted and/or had a pain medication in with the epidural.

Each stay I would get 2-3 mg IV for about 24 hrs than would start by mouth day b4 discharge. Gave tapering instructions on discharge. I have 50mcg fentanyl patch. Have appt with pain doc nearby but not till next Wednesday. I am tired all the time, no interest to do anything, restless sleep at night. I am 3 days off. What more can I expect?
