Avatar f tn Hi everyone, Ok, background, I was taking 125 mcg fentanyl patch with 15 mg oxycodone for breakthrough pain for 3years. I have/had chronic hereditary pancreatitis. Well I had a total pancreatomy with islet cell transplant in December of 2012. When I woke up they had switched my meds to 8 mg diluadid every 3 hours and 15 mg methadone every 8 hours. I tapered off of the diluadid a month ago, and am trying to stop the methadone.

2066663 tn?1331993339 Good for you! What are you using for pain now? I'll bet you're happy to be off the patches!!
Avatar f tn And then I am allergic to every iv pain med they offer. I had to get my epidural at 4cm and had it going for about 25hrs, which was 2hrs into my labor before I ended up with a c section.
Avatar f tn Im on suboxone and I take 3 quarters a day of the tablets, im getting all four of my wisdom teeth removed and will be sedated, they are doing a IV and local anesthesia. I do not want to tell the surgeon because they will look at me differently. What should i do taper myself to a quarter a day and then not do any the day before and of the surgery? What should i do and will i be ok if i do that?
Avatar n tn I can tell you they usually use medications named Versed (which is an amnesic and makes you sleepy and not remember the procedure) and Fentanyl (an IV pain medication). These two drugs together produce the sedation for the procedure and you will be comfortable. Most people don't remember the procedure at all.
Avatar m tn I have never taken anything stronger than tramadol for pain, so I expected to get significant relief from the fentanyl during the procedure. Not only did I get NO relief, I never felt any effect of the medication (drowsiness, ect.). I experienced a brief period of dizziness after the Versed, but retain total memory of the entire procedure. It was especially painful.
Avatar f tn Hi,your questions can only be answered by your pain management team. Why do you risk your welfare to uneducated strangers?????????????????????
2066663 tn?1331993339 Are you misusing your medications? Or are you taking them as directed? Do you still have pain? I was on Fentanyl for about 7 months. It definitely wasn't the drug for me. I feel it made a mess of me. I asked my docs to taper me down but they weren't that interested in that so I essentially did it myself. If you want to get off, you should be able to ask your doctor to wean you off properly. You'll get lots of support and suggestions here.
Avatar f tn I have been on the fentenyl. Patch. 50 mcg every 48 for really bad pain from fibromyalgia and lupus for about 2 years and still having breakthrough pain. I have taken so many medications I got so depressed I quit the fent last.f week was he'll and I am so scared that it won't end. I go to the Er and all tdo is iv lost liquids. I can't.keep anything down and all they say is to see my pain md. When I called a million times all I finally got was a appointment for 5 days from now.
Avatar f tn They are givin me fentanyl. Which is a narcotic. But am i back at square one? Im still expieriencin the withdraws.
Avatar n tn monday i had a hard w/d but sedate my self with xanax valium and carmabazepine i got on prescription. yesterday i felt better but i made in fentanyl iv with 10% of an old patch i used only 12 hours and today same. my question is:WILL WIThDRAWAL COME BACK AFTER THIS 2 SHOTS?
Avatar m tn I was on fentanyl 50mg patches for 3-4 years for knne pain from a botched replacement. I was still in intense pain and patches no longer worked. Went to pain dr. She took me off 50mg-gave me a scpit for 25mg for 1 month. I go back in a week. I guess whe'll just keep cutting back till I'm down to the lowest dose and then quit them. I've noticed the pain is no different really as the patches no longer worked.
7303500 tn?1389997641 Has anyone ever gone to rehab to be medically detoxed from fentanyl and oxycodone? I've been on pain meds for about two years now. I've only been on fentanyl for three months but I want off everything. I feel like I'm in a constant fog. I hate the way I feel. The fentanyl is making me depressed really bad. It also gives me anxiety. I have chronic pain but I think I would rather be in pain then deal with the way pain meds make me feel.
19164880 tn?1473283520 I have just come of Actiq and Fentanyl patch and understand your situation. I have decided not to opt for opiates except iv morphine if required for severe pain in hospital only for life threatening situation e.g. complete obstruction of the bowel. I have looked to alternative ways of pain management. It will not take the pain away only manage it. I found fentanyl did not alleviate all pain hence the actiq and that just gave a feel good factor (prescribed for cancer).
7879163 tn?1411591644 I had an epidural last time and I don't want one again- at least that's how I feel right now (who knows when im in labor)... I asked about an alternative to the epidural (since I knew what labor felt like) and my doctor said they give you a narcotic through IV that doesn't take the pain away but takes the edge off... and if you still want an epidural you can have it...

Avatar f tn Just how painful is this going to get?? I am on one 50 mcg fentanyl patchy q. 72 hours with hydrocodone for breakthrough pain. I almost missed a day but caught it at 14 hours and the pain was pretty intense. I have a pretty good idea re: longevity, etc, but not sure about having to be so drugged that I can't wipe my own bottom. I have a pretty good relationship with my oncologist, but am just trying to get a better feel on how bad this is going to get. Any info welcome,, Thanks.
Avatar n tn I was on the fentanyl patch many years ago, but for several years, and at a high dose. After developing diabetes, my body temperature made the medicine enter my body too quickly and so created problems. At that time, there wasn't the option of oral - only IV. The only question I'd have is that the GI tract absorbs medicines in oral liquid form quite quickly - unless in a time release form - thereby reducing the slow release quality of the patch.
Avatar n tn Each stay I would get 2-3 mg IV for about 24 hrs than would start by mouth day b4 discharge. Gave tapering instructions on discharge. I have 50mcg fentanyl patch. Have appt with pain doc nearby but not till next Wednesday. I am tired all the time, no interest to do anything, restless sleep at night. I am 3 days off. What more can I expect?
Avatar f tn I feel the same way you do, in that i want to find a cure to my pain so, I suggest tring it with fentanyl if you can. Good Luck!!
Avatar m tn My pain can be at a six, I can receive steroids, either as a shot or IV, and my pain can become so bad I am throwing up until I get IV pain meds to clam it down, which doesn't always happen right away. The steroids do help the other symptoms of the flare, but are they worth it? Is there any way to take them without this horrible drug reaction? What's causing this reaction?
Avatar n tn I believe that I was receiving adequate pain control for 80% of time when I was using only 25 mcg/hr fentanyl. I am concerned that the side effects I had been experiencing on 25 mcg/hr fentanyl (nausea, occasional vomiting, decreased appetite and insomnia) will increase, and I may be putting myself at greater risk of dependence or narcotic addiction. Nor am I entirely confident that the increased fentanyl dosage will eliminate my breakthrough pain.
Avatar f tn I'm currently on 75mcg of fentanyl...I change my patch every 3 days along with Percocet for breakthrough pain. I'd like to get off the Percocet as well as fentanyl. I'll be going down to 50mcg of fentanyl next month. My question is, will I have withdrawls if I stop taking the Percocet and just stay on the fentanyl as we continue to lower that? Thanks so much for your help.
Avatar f tn I've been on fentanyl patches for about three years now, due to a chronic vascular disease. I started out on a 25 mcg patch every three days, and at some point increased to a 50 mcg patch every three days. For a while now Ive been noticing that on the third day, they day that I'm supposed to change the patch, I start getting terrible withdrawl symptoms. It's worse than any pain I've ever felt. My body gets incredibly restless and I can't stop writhing around.
1931709 tn?1335833095 I'm just curious if I choose not to have an epidural during delivery, will they still be willing to give me pain meds with an iv? I don't want an epidural, but I would be willing to take something to take the edge off! Any thoughts or stories of natural child birth?
Avatar f tn They put me on a patient controlled pump that allowed me to inject iv 2 mg every ten minutes. They also put me on a Fentanyl patch for 100mc per hour. Together the patch and the dilaudid pump provided complete control of pain and I finally got some much needed rest/ I was on vital signs monitoring so they could tell if my respiration was impaired. I also got some Lorazepam to help with the mild colic I sometimes got from the arsenic.
Avatar f tn I am prescribed quite a few pain meds and benzo's for Chronic pain and anxiety but need advice on getting off Fentanyl Patch ASAP. I am prescribed Fentanyl Patch 100mcg every 36 hrs, Diladid 8mg 2-3 daily, Percocet 7.5 4 daily, Norco 7.5 4 daily, klonopin 1mg 4x daily, Valium 10mg 2-3 daily, Flexeril 10mg 3x daily, Phenergan 25mg 2x daily. I now am down to taking 50mcg Fentanyl every 72 hrs, 1/2 so 4 mg of Diladid if needed 0-2 a day, 1/2 of Percocet so about 3.
