Avatar n tn Hi, I think you are having physical form of urticaria. Urticaria occurs usually without any cause, but in some exposure to extreme climates, allergies, physical stimulation of skin have been implicated as the cause for occurrence of urticaria. You can consult a dermatologist for confirmation by mimicking the stimulus like scratching for occurrence of urticaria. Treatment is with use of antihistamines, topical steroid creams, immunomodulators etc. Take care.
Avatar f tn I have been suffering from chronic itchy skin which appears all over my body. My skin becomes so itchy that i'm constantly breaking the skin and scratching without consciously knowing. There is no rash before i scratch and the skin does not feel dry however afterwards the skin becomes red and bumpy which disappears quickly. I have been in and out of the doctors office with diagnoses of eczema and chronic dry skin. I've also been recently diagnosed with mrsa.

Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to ringworm or scabies, both of which are contagious and very itchy rashes. Ringworm presents as red circular itchy skin patches. To confirm the diagnosis, please get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. KOH examination of the skin scrapings can be done for fungal infections. Diagnosis of scabies is made by scraping the skin and viewing the material under a microscope to see the characteristic mite or eggs.
Avatar n tn Place an ice cube on your forearm for 4 minutes and observe the area for 10 minutes afterwards. If you have cold urticaria, the area will become itchy and then swell approximately 2 minutes after removing the ice cube. Treatment is avoiding exposure to cold stimuli, including swimming or bathing in cold water. You can take antihistaminics like zyrtec or tegamet.
Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to cold urticaria. Cold urticaria is diagnosed by holding an ice cube against the skin of the forearm for 1 to 5 minutes. A distinct hive should develop if a patient has cold urticaria. Patients with cold urticaria should learn to protect themselves from a rapid drop in body temperature.Antihistaminics like Claritin and zyrtec can also be taken. The antihistamine cyproheptadine (Periactin) has been found to be a useful treatment also.

Avatar n tn i have had itchy painful skin rashes on my hands since the summer. they start out small and itchy and progress to larger painful and itchy red raised patches on my hands that last about 5 days disappear and then return at odd intervals. i have been to a dermatologist who is stymied by it and has told me she's never seen anything like it. i have had blood work and also a biopsy of the rash which has turned up nothing.
Avatar n tn I had the skin testing for food allegies and came up negative. I think I may have food sensitivities. One allergist told me to avoid sulfites. The lastest rashes aren't responding to cortisone cream. I had a swollen lip 1 1/2 days after dental work. Took pred for 1 day. Got the rash a few days afterwards It seems like my immune system is overactive. Am tired of the itching! I don't want to go back to Doxepin which I have been off just 4 days.

Symptoms follow any stimulus to sweat such as exercise (sometimes called exercise-induced urticaria), heat from the sun (which could also indicate solar urticaria), saunas, hot showers (reaction to water can also indicate water urticaria), spicy foods which may cause an increase in body temperature or even stress due to blushing or anger.
Avatar f tn Hello, It is very difficult to make a diagnosis without examination but some of the possibilities for your symptoms are aquagenic urticaria, dry skin (xerosis), psoriasis or dermatitis.Systemic diseases like like liver and kidney disorders, diabetes, iron deficiency anemia can also cause itchy skin. Avatar f tn Hi, This is a condition called hives.Hives are red, itchy welts or swellings on the skin that often come in clusters. They sometimes have a light red or pale center surrounded by a darker red area around the borders -- a marking resembling tiny bull's eyes -- but may simply look like large red circles. In doctor speak, hives are known as "urticaria." Hives can appear anywhere on the body, cropping up either in one small area or covering large patches of skin.
Avatar f tn I have been having an outbreak of a rash on my buttocks coinciding with the third week of my monthly period for the past 2 months (these are the first 2 periods I have had after giving birth to my daughter). It begins as extremely dry skin which is itchy and burning, this then breaks out in lots of tiny little red barely raised that spread all over my buttocks. Some of these bumps become bigger red pimple like bumps and occasional rough red patches of skin (about 1cm).

Avatar f tn This could be due to the soap or even the water. Water urticaria, or aquagenic urticaria, is a rare condition in which hives develop within 1 to 15 minutes after contact with water. The hives last for a few minutes after and do not seem to be caused by histamine release like the other physical hives. This could be associated with sensitive skin or to additives in the water such as chlorine. If it persists, have this evaluated further for proper management. Take care and keep us posted.

Avatar f tn The swellings or wheals produced after itching can be pale (of skin color) or red. Urticaria is usually triggered by allergens, such as drugs, foods, insect bites, inhaled substances, in response to sunlight, cold, heat, stress, exercise, or a viral infection. Other common allergens are pollen, mold, dust, pet dander, or cosmetics. Since you experienced an itch, just go over these possibilities in your mind. Something may strike you.

Avatar n tn Hello, What you seem to having is chronic urticaria. It is defined as urticaria that persists for longer than 6 weeks. In most of the cases of chronic urticaria, the underlying pathology is idiopathic i.e it is not linked to any cause. It is essential to rule out the presence of serious illnesses of which recurring hives can be a symptom. Examples are hepatitis, hyperthyroidism, lymphomas, collagen vascular diseases, and cancers of the rectum, kidneys and gastrointestinal tract.
