Common Questions and Answers about Itchy skin stress

Avatar n tn Other conditions cause itchy skin as well. Skin conditions like dermatitis, scabies and hives, internal diseases like liver and kidney disorders, diabetes, iron deficiency anemia, irritation and allergic reactions to chemicals, wool, soaps, cosmetics and certain foods can cause itchy skin. You can apply an anti-itch cream or lotion to the affected area. Oral antihistamine, such as Benadryl can also be used. You should take a comfortably cool bath and wear smooth-textured cotton clothing.
Avatar n tn I am 39, male - tend to have itchy skin especially after showers and swimming. Most times, I would scratch myself like crazy. I would apply Broad spectrum antumycotic cream (prescribed by doctor) from time to time - but the itch condition would recur after some time. Could these be symptoms of an underlying issue? I also have frequent stomach upsets with watery motion, especially after eating food that is not fully cooked (e.g. raw bacon) or drinking lukewarm water.
Avatar n tn Over the past 6 months, my skin has become increasingly "itchy". It started on my legs and has ultimately found it's way to my scalp. Its noticable after showers (med. in temperature), water on skin will sometimes make it itch. After an "outbreak" about 20 minutes later it stops itching and all looks/feels fine. It appears to be the hair follicle that is raised and irritated and it loks like several small bumps in patches. I can not issolate what casues the outbreak.
Avatar f tn It's mostly my head that is itchy but so is my body. I have no hives or rashes or scaly skin. Dermatologist gave me a medicated shampoo and said it could be dermatitis. It doesn't help at all. Already went through 2 bottles of it. I am beside myself. Can I have something wrong with me internally? Can stress cause this itching? I take benedry, but it doesn't help. I have cortizone cream but doesn't help. Don't know what to do. Any answers out there???
1092880 tn?1273978625 Hello there, Of course itchy skin can be s symptoms of anxiety and stress. Have you ever see someone scratching himself really bad while he was under heavy stress? Everyone should at least saw that in a movie once in his life. But itchy skin could also be allergies so maybe it would be a cool idea to get tested. Anxiety is your body and mind overreacting to almost everything so even the feeling of your clothe on your skin might produce a itchy feeling.
Avatar f tn Hives are red, itchy welts or swellings on the skin that often come in clusters. They sometimes have a light red or pale center surrounded by a darker red area around the borders -- a marking resembling tiny bull's eyes -- but may simply look like large red circles. In doctor speak, hives are known as "urticaria." Hives can appear anywhere on the body, cropping up either in one small area or covering large patches of skin. They most often occur as part of an allergic reaction.
Avatar f tn If exercise is nothing new for you, it's more likely a dry skin issue Dry skin. Since you didn’t mention any other symptoms, it could be that dry skin is the culprit. Are you walking outside or inside? Often, dry weather conditions can cause or exacerbate dry skin. If this is the case, using lotion, investing in a humidifier, and staying hydrated can all help combat dry skin. Skin irritation. Have you switched detergents, started using a new lotion, or are you using a new soap?

749148 tn?1302864559 Na - Seriously, I get it on and off, but in addition to the feeling of something crawled through my hair, I get a serious pinching, burning and itching on the inside of my arms on and off. I could rip my skin off it drives me so crazy. There is nothing there, no spots, no bumps, nothing. Can last days, or hours - it varies so much. I would say since there is nothing there you can see either, it's more than likely parethesias caused by the damage from your MS.
Avatar n tn Stress often causes several body changes. Skin can be one of them. 'Satellite' type (round) patches are often a sign of either a fungal infection or eczema (could be a number of other things as well)(itching could indicate eczema). Depending on the cause, (fungal, ecz, bact.) there are a number of treatments. For one, try showering with cooler water, keeping the areas clean (try cleaning with hibiclens).
Avatar f tn Do you really have dry skin all over, meaning everywhere? The first thing that comes to mind is stress. Stress and anxiety can play a huge part of skin problems. Do you have allergies? They can cause you to itch. Did you come in contact with something, someone? There are so many possibilities that it's impossible to answer such a general question.
Avatar f tn Dermatographism can be caused by stress, tight or abrasive clothing, watches, glasses, energetic kissing, heat, cold, or anything that causes stress to the skin. In many cases it is merely a minor annoyance, but in some rare cases symptoms are severe enough to impact a patient's life. It can be treated by antihistamines or cromoglicate and sometimes steroids, as they prevent the histamine from causing the reaction.
Avatar f tn I'm experiencing itchy dry skin and discolored skin. I wanted to know what i can do to get rid of it.
Avatar f tn I have hypothyroidism and have been told by an allergist that my skin itching is due to the thryroid. I wake up almost every morning with my skin itchy and red and can't see to control it. Was on steriod and nothing took it away, saw an allergist and still nothing. Really need to find out if there is someone else out there who has this same problem. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn Stress can aggreviate skin problems, so if you are having a difficult time do think about seeing a counsellor or taking anti-anxiety drugs. Otherwise it turns into a circle of stress, skin problem, stress. Have you taken antihistamines during any of this? They will stop the itching if it is an allergy or chronic hives. Oral anti-histamines start to work within one hour. Hydrocortizone 1% cream is effective, but contra-indicated for long term use so you need to get this sorted.
Avatar n tn I have a blood test about 3 months ago--everything normal-OK and a heart stress test about a month ago, also normal OK. I would describe the sensation of my skin as a mild sundburn that is healing. Also, a few years ago I took some Niacin and had a reaction. The sensation is similar to that also, and at times there is some minor flushing of my face involved. Other than some mild fatigue that might be caused by the skin discomfort I have no other symptoms. I'm a male, 57 years old.
Avatar f tn That is strange as I assume cetirizine should help anti-allergy as doctor prescribed to me when I had other allergy on my skin - it occurs when my skin have pressure on it and it goes red and itchy, when you scatch it, it swells a big piece. But this seems to stop after Im on cetirizine - however, other skin allergy comes up! So annoying!
