Common Questions and Answers about Itchy rash while pregnant

rash

Avatar f tn Has anyone experienced a rash while being pregnant? When I was pregnant the first time, I got a strange, itchy rash on my stomach and arms around the 7th month and it stayed for about a month. My doctor had never seen it before, and he's been a doctor for about 30 years! Now I am 12 weeks pregnant, and the other day out of nowhere I broke out in an itchy rash all over my entire body! I have no idea what caused it as I had not used any lotions or eaten any different foods that day.
Avatar m tn Anyways hope this info helps other pregnant mamas avoid the madness and expense of crazy unexplained rashes while pregnant.
Avatar f tn I got it when I was 35 weeks and it took almost two weeks for the rash to go away. But I still get itchy where the rash was. My doc said since it effects the nerves that the itchiness and pain could last awhile. I'm 38 weeks now. I know how you feel it will get better though!

1554910 tn?1297429911 However, it soon becomes apparent that the many tiny red spots that spread to the hands, feet, arms and legs are indeed a rash. One out of every 300 pregnant women is affected. While it can occur at any time during the pregnancy, Prurigo Gestationis usually occurs during the second half of the pregnancy. There is no cure for it, but a physician can prescribe topical ointments to control it. The rash disappears shortly after delivery. 5.

Avatar f tn Hey everyone! I am 5 weeks pregnant and have this extremely itchy rash on my body, particularly my arms, chest and trunk. It looks like tiny red bumps and appears to be more severe when I scratch (but it's so hard not to!!!). I've read about pregnancy rashes, but they usually occur much later in the pregnancy. Does anyone know what could be going on and is this normal??
Avatar f tn Just noticed a rash appearing across the top of my bump, it's not itchy and doesn't hurt. Just looks like heat rash but it's winter. Has anyone had this before?
Avatar n tn Hi ladies, I have a really itchy rash all over my chest under and between my breasts. I'm in the first trimester and I'm not sure if it's pupp rash or heat rash as i live in a hot climate. What can I do to make this go away or even just soothe the itch?
1124350 tn?1291943828 My doctor told me I could take Benedryl. Eventhough I took it on occasion (I wasn't fond of taking medicaitons while I was pregnant) the rash still looked aweful. I don't think it is really harmful mostly just annoying and painful if it is severe. Once the baby is delivered the rash will slowly go away. I can't even remember how long it took for mine to go away...maybe a week at most. I hope you can get some relief soon.
Avatar f tn it started when i was 7 or 8 weeks pregnant. i am now almost 11 weeks pregnant and it only seems to be getting worse. it is not an allergic reaction or anything else that makes sense. i am going crazy because the itchy feeling never goes away. it feels like hives and looks like it but for having it this long it is impossible for it to be a reaction please help.
384896 tn?1335294331 When I was pg with my dd, I had a rash all the time, was itchy, especially at night. It drove me crazy. The Dr. said it was a rash some women get when pg. i only had it with my dd. I am hoping it doesn't happen this time around. I used the aveno lotion, it seemed to help a little. Your Dr may be able to give you better advice or something else to help.
Avatar n tn I tried seeeing my doctor but she said it could be due to me being pregnant. But then relized that husband and daughter also had same exact rash like itch, Well they are not pregnant! And then doctor suggested getting an exterminater to check for bed bugs. Did that, and NO bed bugs!! Its not dry skin because we use lotion to moisturize our skin. My doctor also has said it is not scabies. I been using all the same products like soap, lotion, detergent ect for as long as i can remember!

Avatar f tn You can get it from the pharmancy and is fine to use while pregnant.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms the possibility of hives is there and in your case it can be due to chronic hives. The cause of chronic urticaria is often more difficult to identify. Most cases are called chronic idiopathic urticaria, which means they're caused by the body's unexplainable development of antibodies to itself (auto-antibodies). Regarding this itchy rash on abdomen, pruritic urticarial plaques of pregnancy( PUPP) need to be ruled out.
