Avatar m tn I am at odds end about what to do because I am afraid about having long term, permanent eye problems and other side effects from this drug. I have a few questions: Is it normal to still be breaking out at the beginning of month 5 on accutane? How heavily do you believe that in order to acheive permanent remission that you have to take a high enough cumulative dose based on your body weight because I am not going to come anywhere close to this based on my weight and dose?
Avatar n tn The treatment requires close medical supervision by a dermatologist because the drug has many known side effects (many of which can be severe). About 25% of patients may relapse after one treatment. In those cases, a second treatment for another 4-6 months may be indicated to obtain desired results.

634590 tn?1293774093 Isotretinoin has many bad side effects, but muscle weakness is not one. It has so many side effects, I would be reluctant to take this medication. You can read the entire list of negative side-effects online -- just search for isotretinoin. However, since you're finished with your fifteen day course without incident, your risk in using this medication is greatly minimized. If you had a serious infection, this would of course weaken you. With constant pain, energy is always affected.
Avatar n tn I am afraid this might have a side effect, he hasnt asked for any type of blood work to see how my liver is doing with all this medication (people scared me with the side effects of acne pills) and the acne, even though it seems to improve from time to time.. every 3 months, it becomes stronger.. dermatologist creates a new mix (maybe going back to monocycline) and then the cycle continues.. Also I apply every night.. differin gel 0.1 % and also in the morning. I need help..
Avatar f tn I would call you dr and let him now what your symptoms are before continuing on. Also ask him if these side effects your having will go away. Does your dr know you have BP? I myself have an acne regimine with a dermatologist. I had to stay away from certain meds for acne because of BP. I research everything I take. Have you researched Isotretinion (Accutane)? I hope you feel better and get the answers you need.
Avatar n tn The treatment that you have been prescribed is correct. If you are having any side effects then get the antibiotics changed and even oral antibiotics can be added. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
Avatar f tn I have moderate-severe acne and have recently started another new treatment in an effort to avoid isotretinoin. I have had acne for over ten years and have tried multiple prescription and OTC treatments over that time. Two weeks ago I started taking doxycycline 100mg, topical erythromycin + benzoyl peroxide & Yaz. I am concerned about possible side effects of the doxycycline.
Avatar m tn Again I consult with second, he prescribed me mentioned above, But I read from Internet that Isotretinoin has many side effects including hair fall, so I neglect that dosage of Isotretinoin by afraid , only azithromycin took for 6 days. Pimples are reduced to some extent but they are leaving scars on face. Is HH fudic cream will work for both pimples and scars ? Dosage of Minoz 50 (minocycline) will work for me if I takes this 20 days, is it good for health to take it in 6 months for 20 days ?
Avatar n tn The majority of things which interact with isotretinoin are drying lotions applied to the skin which will increase fragility and sensitivity. Tetracycline antibiotics must not be taken with accutane as this can cause serious side effects. Vitamin A must also not be taken with accutane as this will increase the side effects. When you have your blood tests tell the nurse about any medications you are taking. Before taking any medications tell the doctor or pharmacist you are on accutane.
Avatar m tn Thanks, I should keep that in mind. I guess the dosage I am currently on is considered low in medical standards. I've already put my dosage on hold for 2 days now as I'm still unfazed about what accutane can do to my bones. There is a very minimal amount of research done on low dose accutane and it's side effects including that on epiphyseal plate available on the net. I guess it's a relatively novel thing?
Avatar m tn If I understand correctly, taking the isotretinoin immediately after minocycline can cause extremely harmful side effects. So basically, I believe that my doctor made a huge mistake. However, before making a complaint to the hospital, I want to have a reputable source that states that these drugs negatively interact. This doctor has made a lot of small mistakes in the past, so I have reason not to trust her judgment.
Avatar m tn Hello, Weight loss is one of the side effects of taking Accutane and it may cause anorexia as well. Eat a healthy nutritious diet and consult your doctor if weight loss is a major problem. You may need to be put on some other medication for acne rather than Accutane. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.

Avatar n tn maintenance doses of oral isotretinoin in the range of 10-40 mg every other day or 0.05% isotretinoin gel is rarely indicated as a suppressive treatment for widespread disfiguring sebaceous hyperplasia. Oral isotretinoin should be prescribed by a physician who is experienced in oral retinoid therapy and only for patients without contraindications.
Avatar m tn Intake of alcohol while taking this medication may increase the risk of certain side effects like pancreatitis. There can be increased risk of bone problems, including an increased risk of broken bones. This drug must not be used during pregnancy or by those who may become pregnant during treatment. Other more serious side effects include increased blood cholesterol, lipid, and triglyceride levels and abnormal liver enzymes.
Avatar f tn We would expect to see a clinical improvement after 4-8 weeks, this is a highly effective treatment if you can tolerate the side effects. If you cannot, consider changing to a gentler retinoid-like gel called Differin (adapalene). Alternatively, consider a course of oral antibiotics or an anti-androgen contraceptive pill such as Diane35 (called Dianette in the UK), Yaz or Yasmin. Eloise.

Avatar n tn hi is it possible to have side effects on the embreyo after 7 months stop? i stopped it last december and got pregnant at the end of june. the baby was diagnosed trisomy 18. i terminated 5 days ago is it possible due to isosupra?
Avatar m tn This is the strongest acne treatment available but it does have many potential side effects, so perserve with oral antibiotics and topical retinoids before considering this. Eloise.

Avatar m tn This has many potential side effects including hair loss, dry lips, muscle and joint pain, fragilised skin, psychological changes and malformation of exposed pregnancy. However, this must be balanced against the fact it is your best hope of a long term remission from acne, when standard treatments have failed. Eloise.
Avatar m tn Discuss with your dermatologist. If you don't want to accept the possiblity of those side effects then don't take the medications. All medications have side effects. Each year several thousand people bleed to death from aspirin. One person's cure is another person's side effect. The only people that would have you believe that if a side effect occurs the doctor or the pharmaceutical company did something wrong are trial lawyers.
Avatar f tn I have had a boil on my face for 3 months which won't go away. I've tried everything I can - antibioltics, hot poulices, a drawing cream, magnesium sulphate, tea tree oil to name but a few. It sometimes gets smaller but is soon back again with avengance. My dermatologist wants me to start a course of roaccutane but I really don't want to because of the infamous side effects.
Avatar m tn Lower doses and shorter duration of medication is associated with lower incidences of side effects. Before initiating a treatment, the benefits may be evaluated against the potential risks/ side effects. Take care!
