Isotretinoin gel for acne

Common Questions and Answers about Isotretinoin gel for acne

Avatar m tn Hi. Oral Isotretinoin (Accutane/Roaccutane) is the most effective drug for clearing acne. It has many potential side effects (dry lips, sensitized skin, joint and muscle pain) but this must be balanced against the fact that after your course you are likely to remain free from acne for a long time. The correct dose is 0.5 to 1mg x kg bodyweight per day. So if you weigh 50kg, you are correct in taking 40mg daily, as your dose should be between 25 and 50mg a day.
Avatar n tn maintenance doses of oral isotretinoin in the range of 10-40 mg every other day or 0.05% isotretinoin gel is rarely indicated as a suppressive treatment for widespread disfiguring sebaceous hyperplasia. Oral isotretinoin should be prescribed by a physician who is experienced in oral retinoid therapy and only for patients without contraindications.
Avatar n tn There is not really a 'cure' for acne but there are lots of ways of managing it until you are no longer prone to it. The first step would be to try an over the counter formula such as Freederm. If this is of limited benefit see your doctor for a prescription strength gel such as Dalacin or Duac. Your doctor can also give you a course of oral antibiotics such as oxytetracycline, which attack the bacteria which cause spots.
Avatar n tn I know all about acne products. I've used tazorac gel and cream for about 4 years and then I used Differin gel for about 2. I was on Clindamycin lotion before and I've used Keflex pills, Doxycyline pills and erythromycin gel before. I guess those products have dried my face out so much that my body overcompensated for them and made me produce more oil. Another thing is, is that those oil controlling products don't last for long. They usually last about 20 minutes.
Avatar n tn isotretinoin also known as Accutane, can be prescribed by a doctor, or contraceptive pills with cyproterone for females with virilization or drospirenone. Scars due to acne are not uncommon. Treatments vary from melanin blocking agents combined with topical medications such as Retin A which causes the body to exfoliate the skin to rid the body of the hyperpigmentation while prohibiting new melanin production to laser treatments.
Avatar f tn Can anyone recommend an acne treatment for those cystic acne bumps that take forever to go away? I'm 46 and did Accutane in my 20s with pretty good results until the last several years. I've had the most success with Pro Active, but my skin got really itchy when I wore mineral powder makeup and I kept ruining towels, pillowcases and shirts. I've also tried Acne Free, Murad and Dermatologic plus prescription cream with no luck.
Avatar f tn I have had a clear skin with occasional breakouts. I used to take Isotretinoin 20mg and Azithromycin(500mg) and a Benzoyl Peroxide based soap and Clindamycin ointment. Recently in my anxiety to get rid of my acne scars, I used Mederma, that cleared my skin but again, I started getting severe acne. So, I took Isotretinoin 20mg and Azithromycin. But it didn't work. Also, I discontinued the Isotretinoin course and took this ointment, Persol Forte ( Benzoyl Peroxide with ppt Sulfur).
Avatar n tn If you have already tried this and relapsed, it is worth remembering that 20% of patients (including me) require a second or third course. The main reason for relapse is taking an insufficient dosage or not taking it for long enough. The older you get, the less likely you are to relapse after Accutane therapy. Eloise.
Avatar n tn As you have found, over-the-counter remedies are of limited benefit for anything more than mild acne. There is a lack of medical evidence that home remedies work. You should see your doctor for a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline 250mg twice daily. These kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin. Your doctor can also prescribe a prescription-strength acne gel such as Differin (contains adapalene).

Avatar f tn I myself have an acne regimine with a dermatologist. I had to stay away from certain meds for acne because of BP. I research everything I take. Have you researched Isotretinion (Accutane)? I hope you feel better and get the answers you need.
Avatar m tn There are different drugs for treating acne - like Azelaic acid, Benzoyl Peroxide, Isotretinoin, Antibiotics creams etc. Could you make any comparison amongst these from your experience? Which drug should be given step by step for mild, moderate and severe acne? Could you tell the common side effects and safety etc.?
Avatar m tn s necessary to use quality products for your skin type for sure. Be sensitive to taking care of your skin daily and have facials for Acne regularly. Mostly the internal situation is most likely the same. So watch your Acne triggers and drink plenty of good water, fruits and vegetable to balance your immune system. Gentle herbs like Milk Veech Root to nourish your liver and **** Quai to balance the female reproductive system will help. Get quality sleep and have some fun.
Avatar n tn If a fair trial of the above medications results in failure or relapse, your GP may refer you to a dermatologist for Oral Isotretinoin (formerly Accutane) which is the strongest acne treatment available. Best Wishes, Eloise.
