Is zyprexa used for depression

Common Questions and Answers about Is zyprexa used for depression

zyprexa

Avatar f tn Dizziness, btw IS a common side effect of the Zyprexa...you had asked about that previously. As for stopping the Zyprexa, check with your doctor of course, but just stopping should not be a problem at all after only a few days. You shouldn't have any adverse effects stopping it abruptly at this point. Zyprexa takes at least 3-4 weeks to really start doing its thing. Let us know how you're feeling, and again....give your doc a ring....it doesn't hurt to be cautious. Take Care.

Avatar f tn The fear of rejection is to much. I'm not sure if the Zyprexa is doing anything for me. I feel such confidence and trust in my Dr, I'm scared if I tell him all I feel, he'll turn me away, like my psychologist did, when during a bad manic episode he ignored my calls for help, got the receptionist to do it too. I mean I was suicidal, had sliced up my arms severely and nearly overdosed. The next time I had a appointment he said it was our last and that was that.
Avatar n tn It has been almost two weeks since I withdrawn from zyprexa and it looks like it is getting worse everyday. I have used this medication for 1.5 months and my highest dosage was 10 mg that I took for 7 days. Im feeling very weird, not alert or not conscious at all. It feels like Im some kinda zombie without emotions. I canĀ“t even sleep well at night, Im a sleep but awake at the same time. I get panic attacks because Im scared I will be like this forever.
Avatar m tn My son is stopping zyprexa because he said it has never helped his depression. He is on 2.5 mg a day. He went off each pill one week at a time because he gets dangerous withdrawl symptomsms. He is off a pill on friday, saturday and monday. He is still on the 2.5 mg of zyprexa on tuesday, wednesday, thursday and sunday. Which would be the next pill to get off of? The program he is on refuses to take him off the medicine now and he went to the hospital to get off it.
Avatar n tn not to exceed two weeks of use, used in the treatment of acute bipolar mania and schizophrenic episodes. I was depressed, not bouncing off the walls or halucinating. As far as getting off... I took 10mg initially, and dropped to 7.5( a 5 and 2.5 combined) then to a five, over time. I could go no lower than 5 mg, by now the drug was producing the symptoms it was primarily designed to treat, upon withdrawal. Bad sleep, screwed up dreams, and exotic phobias.
Avatar n tn but I think that anyone who takes any anti-psychotic medication and knows he/she needs (down in your heart) then stay on it... Zyprexa is to me as Coumadin is to my friend Mohammad who requires it for his heart. And he told me that himself. I agree 100%. I won't waste anymore time with "checking to see if I still need it." It wastes time I don't have. When I'm on Zyprexa, I'm sharp, and insightful, patient, tolerant, happy and calm.

1082697 tn?1260068216 Zyprexa can be effective for depression when combined with an antidepressant. My Psychiatrist was thinking about it for me, but I told him no and that he would have to be more creative with his meds. (I'm just not a big fan of any anti-psychotic drugs for depression and anxiety) I had my Psych prescribe me a strong Tri-cyclic and 900Mgs a day of Lithium then added Klonopin for the anxiety.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Avatar f tn So, today, her doctor took her off the Mrtazapine and added Zyprexa(not sure of the dosage) with her Zoloft - and while I have read that it is used sometimes for off-label treatments, I am very concerned about some of the side effects that I have read about. Since she has had bouts with annorexia, and is probably 5-10 lbs underweight - weight gain of is not one of the issues I'm worried about and could be a benefit for her.
Avatar n tn I'm not familiar with zyprexa, citalopram is a common SSRI - I used it for depression and anxiety. I think the key is taking it slow.
Avatar n tn My painful question is that I have been off Zyprexa for 6 weeks, 2.5mg. I I wake up trembling, heart racing, and depression, unable to sleep at all. What is happening? Also a new Doctor suggested Geodone right away, however he has not heard my damaging history with my doctor. Also, my doctor never kept accurate medical records in all 13 1/2 years, and was already leagally repremanded for not having medical records in 1994 from another patient.
Avatar n tn My husband was just diagnosed as Bipolar. He is currently in a severe manic state at a hospital here in GA . He is taking Risperdal and Depakote. Has anyone ever used this combination of meds and how did it help you or did it?
1655289 tn?1326046489 I am tempted to go off Zyprexa to get my highs back, I also take 20 mg prozac for depression, I seemed to have lost my personality. I can't cry anymore my feelings are flat and I'm not interested in anything anymore. I've gianed weight and I'm having a hard time just leaving my house. I hate to get dressed because I feel so fat. I use to love to go shopping but have no desire lately. I am still depressed and have a lot of anxiety. I need to break free of this rut I'm in. Any suggestions?
1353720 tn?1414506724 It is true that the weed growing these days is much stronger in THC (mainly due to better growing condition indoor that mimic tropical conditions and which are good for a good indica weed with a lot of THC) but also, smoking weed is bad for your health, especially for your lungs. Synthetic THC is not an option as I suggest it would only make your symptoms worse. I don't know what to say as you seem to like some of your symptoms tho....
616450 tn?1228437227 (Yes, I've read about the risks and side effects.) Has any one else used Zyprexa? I'm hanging in there for the RAI Friday (the decision was made for me by all three endos, by the way, since they think my levels are good enough right now) and I actually feel almost half human. I feel like a person should feel since I've been on this stuff. It seems to help the symptoms NOW--not in three weeks.
Avatar f tn So no you never take a medication you do not want when there are alternatives just because its what your doctor wants - this is why being an informed consumer is vital for us and why knowing about the drugs used in treatment is so important.
Avatar n tn Is this a normal physiological reaction to not taking zyprexa for over a year, I mean why can't I sleep? Or this just proof that I am Bipolar and should be put back on the Zyprexa? Perhaps I just need to give my body some time to readjust, but I can't stand the thought of having to take Ambien every night to sleep, I'm might as well be on the zyprexa. By the way I've been up all night and I don't feel the least tired, it's around 5:30 AM and I took an Ambien just a few minutes ago.
Avatar m tn Its definitely not a good idea. Zyprexa is an antipsychotic used as a mood stabilizer. Lithium of course is a mood stabilizer. Neither are specifically anti-depressents though they would have some anti-depressent effect. First of all find out what your son's specific diagnosis is and what other options would be available that would treat it in particular. Then you can decide from there.
Avatar m tn In January of this year I began using Zyprexa for bipolar and psychosis. After 5 months of using the medication (20mg daily) I began experiencing some sexual side effects such as a dry orgasm, low sperm count, etc. - all of which were unexplainable. My psychiatrist asked that i stop the zyprexa immediately as it was causing an increase in prolactin levels, he asked that i stop the drug COLD TURKEY! (no weaning off) - When I stopped the medication, i did not sleep for 4 days.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking 225mg of effexxor for depression which is not preventing my current depression and have since found out that I am bypolar. Would you choose zyprexa or lithium to augment the effexxor? Any suggestions would be very helpfull. Also could you deal with side effects.
Avatar f tn Because wellbutrin is the most stimulating antidepressant out there and is not recommended for those for whom anxiety is a problem. Doctors usually only combine an ssri with wellbutrin if you're having sexual dysfunction or weight gain if anxiety is a problem. Here's what probably happened: you had either a common reaction to antibiotics, or the antibiotics have killed off your beneficial organisms.
Avatar n tn I am not a doctor or mental health provider I just happen to have a lot of professional experience working with folks who have a history of depression and/or HEP C as well as being someone who is treating for HEP C and had a long history of depression prior to treating.
Avatar n tn ) COULD THESE ALL JUST BE ANXIETY SYMPTOMS OR COULD IT BE THAT SOMETHING PHYSICAL IS GOING ON BECAUSE MY BODY WAS USED TO THE ZYPREXA FOR SO LONG? HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF THOSE SYMPTOMS????????? WILL THEY GO AWAY? HOW LONG COULD IT TAKE? SHOULD I WAIT IT OUT & SEE WHAT HAPPENS? My doctor says there is no such thing a zyprexa withdrawal. Also, I've been checked out by my primary care physician. He says my ears are fine; the only thing is my throat looked a little irritated.
Avatar f tn Body/brain chemistry is hugely complex! So my vote is to get back on Zyprexa. See how you feel. Therapy is always helpful if your insurance covers it. Best wishes.
1065872 tn?1265657330 So either you combine it with an antipsychotic like seroquel or risperisone or zyprexa which is pretty tough MS though an AP, or opt for the classical MS (e.
Avatar m tn I take Effexor -xr for depression and Zyprexa 5 mg a mood stabilizer and puts me to sleep at night. Don't forget to call the PSY. You could do this.......
