Is pumping breast milk the same as breastfeeding

Common Questions and Answers about Is pumping breast milk the same as breastfeeding

milk

689528 tn?1364135841 I know I always get more milk from one side than from another. Also the side I have less milk takes longer for the milk to come down. I have the same problem with my daughter which is why I give her my breast milk in a bottle. I like it that way better because I'm always "On the go" and it would be hard for me to breastfeed. I think I am going to stop giving her my breastmilk only because she spits up a lot. I tried giving her Enfamil A.R. and she did not spit up at all.
7845638 tn?1395841467 If your going to exclusively pump do you begin pumping the same day as baby is born?
10720243 tn?1415582269 If your only pumping you need to do that every hour or so to build your supply the sucking is not the same as the babies mouth so it will be harder. In the beginning i noticed i had so much milk but then it starts regulating to your babys need as he or she breast feed. But since your pumping it slowed down.
4194487 tn?1370046144 s not the same. I went to the doctor tho with the decreasing volume of my milk and she prescribed me a tablet (donperidon I think) which side effect is that you have lots of milk. Probably your doc will be able to help you as well! If he's gaining weight he's definitely getting enough milk.
Avatar f tn So is it the same if you pump? I mean its the same as baby breastfeeding your just pumping. Also does it give baby the same nutrients? Like the colostrum and stuff?
Avatar n tn With my first baby I decided to breastfeed then switch to a pump which caused me to dry out and with my second baby I fully breastfed it may seem like yur not supplying enough milk but as long as your baby is latched on well he or she should be getting milk ..never really depend on a pump cause the suction is not the same a babys latch is way more stronger which causes you to produce more plus depending on a pump can cause you to dry out ..
Avatar f tn Nikki1214 is right on! Breast is best! If you can do it. The mom/babe connection is amazing and not just emotionally but physically too. If baby is getting a cold (let's say) and breastfeeds. Tiny particles of the cold are in their saliva and gets into the mother causing her body to make antibodies for herself and in the breastmilk therefore giving it to the baby. Both are covered...amazing.
Avatar f tn Just make sure you pump as often as you feed. So if you are giving the baby a bottle every 2 hours pump as soon as the baby is done eating. To get your milk to come in I would pump every hour and half to get it going.
Avatar f tn Brest pumping gives you breastmilk same as breastfeeding so neither is HEALTHIER. What are you asking? If formula is better than breast milk or if pumping will give you more milk than a straight latch?
7826135 tn?1394734754 My baby does the same thing. Sometimes they just want the breast to fall asleep as comfort. My baby does it all the time.
8552650 tn?1400287749 s saliva stimulates the breast so it helps produce the milk.
Avatar f tn ) Have you tried pumping? If your already breastfeeding it would be much cheep er a deep your supply up..
Avatar f tn When did you ladies start lactating? And if you start early before the baby is here should you pump? Or no?
Avatar f tn Put her to the breast more often. What makes you think you aren't making enough?
8146913 tn?1396730598 1. I've heard pump often. Like every two hours. And I'm assuming to pump until they dry up... 2. You just have to monitor your baby to see how much he eats. But only store milk in 2-4 oz bags, so u dnt waste a bunch of milk. 3. My WIC counselor lady told me to not use a binky or a bottle for the first 6 weeks. And use the same position to bottle feed as you would breastfeed. And don't you actually bottle feed. Have someone else bottle feed and you just breastfeed.
Avatar n tn Breastfeeding or pumping will have the same effect, as long as your producing milk your boobs will stay full.
Avatar f tn Also make sure the nipple flow on the bottle is stage 1 or newborn, so the milk flow is slower like a boob. That way the baby knows if it gets the bottle it's not much different fr mommy. Babies usually prefer bottles because milk comes much easier. My 1st born NEVER took the bottle, that was hard bcuz I never came up for air (he was a BIG eater). Baby 2, was very easy took to nursing & bottle, back & forth easily.
Avatar f tn The other problem other then nipple confusion with giving formula is that you will not make as much milk. The more you nurse the more milk you make. Which means your supply could drop a lot, or not have a chance to get established.
Avatar f tn For the latch make sure you bring baby to breast not breast to baby. Also make sure they have as much of the aereola in their mouth. Not just nipple. Make sure the lips both top and bottom are curled outward and not tucked in. These tips should help if you stick it out. Also get in touch with the La Leche League it is a lactation support system of mothers who have been there and done that. Good Luck!
Avatar f tn I plan on pumping so between breast milk and formula baby is being bottle fed. If you don't pump every so many hrs your milk can dry up way fast. My first I did not know this and my milk didn't last long at all.
Avatar f tn Started pumping a day ore two after I got home from the hospital.
Avatar f tn t still hungry then she getting enough milk. Keep pumping in between and also u can try drinking tea for ur milk at the vitamin store, and oatmeal may help as well. Goodluck.
Avatar f tn That's the same question I have lol. I had to pump with my first baby. I'm due May and I plan on breastfeeding this baby as well. But I never froze my milk and didn't know how long the milk is good for. I know to defrost the milk you need to have it in some hot water. Never microwave.
Avatar f tn (. What is the best way to alternate between the two?
Avatar f tn I am also nursing my newborn and today looked up what to eat/not eat. Its pretty much the same as when preg. Watch the caffeine intake because its passes in milk. Watch the citrus too because it can upset babies tummy and effect thier poop. The rest looked about the same as fir fish, drugs, alcohol. ...
7615538 tn?1392668171 The baby sucking you breast nipple actually stimulates way more than anything it's very hard but just stij with it ... What I did with my newborn was I tried to breastfeed her during the whole day because she couldn't lath on either and would cry a lot I tried during the whole day and I did give her some milk bottles after she tried Lot and I would just give her bottled milk during the night to sleep better .. It took me like 1 week for her to learn to lach on ..
Avatar f tn Not that it is the end of the world if breast feeding isnt for you...it is a commitment...but the benefits are too many to count. All the best!!!!
Avatar f tn Pumping doesn't stimulate milk production like natural breastfeeding does. Try hand stimylating with pumping every hour, using warm rags around your breast to make the let down reflex easier, and eating certain foods and even some teas can help the body produce milk.
