Is pneumonia contagious or infectious

Common Questions and Answers about Is pneumonia contagious or infectious

pneumonia

Avatar m tn Well pneumonia is not an STD. You don't get it that way. Maybe you are worried about a urinary tract infection? Generally, Strep. pneumoniae it the " classic" type of bacteria for pneumonia but there are other bacteria that can cause pneumonia. So if you have frequent urination that is hard to go and and especially if it burns when you go that could be a sign of a urinary tract infection. If it is gone then I wouldn't worry about it.
Avatar n tn Is it possible that she is already infected as early as now? If so, is she infectious, even if she isn't coughing or sneezing yet? I read in CDC that most cases are transmitted through coughing and sneezing in close contact, so if she's infected already but still not coughing or sneezing, would she be contagious already? Thank you so much in advance.
Avatar f tn Have you had a CBC? Are your white blood cells high??? The cyst on your back is not related to the pneumonia unless it formed a track containing puss to the lung from the back. If you still have symptoms of pneumonia, please see a lung specialist - a Pulmonologist. They will order a CT of the lungs to look closer within the soft tissues and ask them to order Lung Function Testing to see if you are breathing adequately and have good lung capacity.
Avatar f tn Further, either the bronchities or the cough suppressant (or the combination) is giving me hiccoughs. I slept okay in the hospital since so doped up and since the bed could adjust so could recline nearly upright---which I can't here, even using my five pillows/cushions. The hiccups and the cough paroxysms are frightening. The medications are basically affecting my nervous system rather than the one tiny point where the cough sensor/stretchor senses and operates.
Avatar f tn It depends on what type of infection you have whether or not it is contagious. So if you have a type that is viral such as one caused by norovirus or rotavirus you could have a contagious type or a bacterial one like Clostridium difficile, Salmonella or Shigella pr Ecoli that has a toxin (not all strains have it). So you need to find out which one by having the doctor do some lab tests or telling you which one you have. The main thing is washing your hands well after using the toilet.

Avatar n tn Thanks, yllas. what did your doctor say - is it curable? is it contagious? I don't recall having pneumonia or whooping cough before. my brother had bronchopneumonia when he was 3 years. but he seems to be in perfect health, in fact his xray result last year was clear. I really worried that his might affect my pre employment. I already signed my probationary contract but unfavorable medical results may be grounds for them to revoke my contract.
Avatar n tn I found out that the MRSA is also in her Kidney and that is why her urine is bloody. Should I be worried? If so, why isn't anyone giving me the help I may need? I do not want to infect my son or family if they aren't already infected.....
Avatar m tn I contracted genital warts 30 years ago. Is it likely that I am still contagious?
Avatar m tn In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn Latent CAN BE contagious. Ever heard of "Typhoid Mary?" Same is true for many infectious diseases.
Avatar f tn For example, the bacteria that causes pneumonia called streptococcus pneumonia is a normal bacteria residing in all our throats. Since we all don't get pneumonia from it, the determining factor is not the virulence of the bacteria. The bacteria multiplies without restraint only when our immune systems become compromised.
Avatar f tn I am understanding it takes 21 days to manifest itself. My question is, was I contagious 2 weeks ago, and how long will I be contagious. My job is working with the public.

Avatar m tn t contagious, meaning it cannot be contracted through simple contact with another person, even if the person has a skin rash and you huge her (with or without clothes on). HIV is infectious, and in adults, can only be contracted by having unprotected, penetrative anal or vaginal sex, or by sharing IV drug needles.
Avatar n tn t a specific diagnosis of what caused the pneumonia. Most pneumonia is infectious, and is most times caused by strep bacteria, so they throw antibiotics at it, and see how the patient responds, there are more aggressive atypical bacterial pneumonia that may require more aggressive treatment, also a persons age, and strength of their immune system is a major factor as well. But there are also viral, fungal, or less commonly parasitic causes of pneumonia.

Avatar f tn These microorganisms usually enter the body through mouth, nose and eyes, and then infect the lungs, especially the air sacs or alveoli of the lungs. Pneumonia is more commonly found to affect the lower lobes of the lungs. Apart from microorganisms, pneumonia can also be caused by any injury or damage to the lungs, caused by the exposure to certain chemicals and radiation. So, many times, people receiving aspiration or radiation therapy can too get pneumonia". This is the link: http://www.

Avatar f tn 1) At what point is the lesion or point of outbreak no longer infectious of contagious? I have read in a place or two that it is when the area beings to "crust over". 2) I have also read that only the point of outbreak is infectious, not my entire hand? 3) My noticeable outbreaks of herpetic whitlow have been so few over 10-15 years, will it remain the same? Do you have any information? Thanks you in advance.
