Avatar m tn if you have psoriasis, like you said, please understand some basic issues. It is not a fungal infection, but an autoimmune disorder. scalp psoriasis has waxing and waning episodes, bound to get worse during winter . the shampoos for seborrhaic dermatitis and scalp psoriasis have almost the same content. psoriasis is a difficult condition to treat. keep taking the treatment which best suits you and hope it improves.
Avatar n tn I am also going through similar dandruff, my question to you is how do I determine, whether my dandruff is a sign of psoriasis or seborrhoeic dermatitis? FYI, my dandruff don't respond to any of the dandruff shampoos I have tried so far, I have started using tea tree oil since 2 weeks & I massage it once a week. Any help would be highly appreciated.

Avatar f tn Seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp can be treated effectively by using an anti-dandruff dandruff shampoo containing ketoconazole or salicylic acid or selenium sulfide. If symptoms recur, you may again begin with the treatment prescribed by your dermatologist. Take care.

Avatar n tn Psoriasis of the scalp and dandruff are very common. The best thing I've ever heard of to combat it is the tar shampoos. T-Gel is a name brand and there are lots of knock off's with the same ingredients. This is what dermatologists recommend.
Avatar f tn hi and welcome. Something is causing the dandruff and it might be psoriasis or excema, at this point it would be best to see a dermatoligist to make sure its not the average run of the mill dandruff.
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be seborrheic dermatitis or psoriasis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily).

He uses a special shampoo that controls it.
Avatar f tn Earlier i was treated for exzema. I dont have dandruff. Is it because of exzema? I will visit the dermatologist soon. This will be my forth different Doctor.
Avatar n tn Try using t gel by neutrogena, that does sound like psorosis. T gel is very helpful, and it's not expensive I use it because I get acne on my scalp from using hair spray And it works wonders even though it is made for psorosis. It's main ingredient is coal tar so it doesn't smell pleasant but it's worth a try. Also if you had lice you'd see it crawling.
Avatar f tn ve been trying various dandruff shampoos but none of them have given me any relief to flakes or itch. Does it sound like general dandruff, or something more serious like excema or psoriasis? Is it something worth going to a dermatologist for?
Avatar f tn ve experienced extremely dry and flaky scalp. Can you look at these photos and tell me what it is? Dry scalp, dandruff, scalp psoriasis, or seborrheic dermatitis. The bad part is, I just washed my hair on Monday night. I washed it, conditioned it, put a little of olive oil (food-grade), then I braided my hair in about 8 plaits. I have to wash my hair every week b/c of my scalp. I'm unable to wear twist-outs/braid-outs or any hairstyle that requires me to wear my hair out.
1738109 tn?1331412572 Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes you to itch and have dandruff. I have spalp psoriasis so its only in my hair and sones times my eyebrows. It can be aggravated by stress. Another kind is called plaque psoriasis. This is red flaky patches all over the body. I have a friend with that one. She's miserable when she gets an outbreak. Oh and it's not contagious but it can be genetic for either kind.
Avatar f tn This rash has been with me two months or so now, it only itches sometimes and sometimes stings. It is mostly on my forearms, the backs of my hands, and my legs, it is quite sparse on my chest, only a few spots. It gets scaly on the back of my hands sometimes, and seems to result in a fair bit of dead skin, if I scratch it it's like a guy with dandruff scratching his head. It hasn't spread or receded in about a month now. Please help, this is really worrying me. Thanks.
Avatar n tn For the last year or so, I've had some pretty mean dandruff. Head and Shoulders does absolutely nothing for it. It's gotten a lot worse over the last few months, so I went to my dermatologist to get it checked out. She seemed pretty sure that I have scalp psoriasis, even though I don't have psoriasis anywhere else on my body. I should mention that I hadn't washed my hair for a few days, so it probably looked particularly bad that day. She prescribed Clobex shampoo (.
Avatar f tn The last few weeks my scalp his been itching something awful, it is centered around the crown. I don't have dandruff and dandruff shampoo makes it worse. I have taken to washing my hair once a week because it itches so badly. The itching is making my head hurt. Please help.
Avatar f tn The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. Because of the scratching that is involved with the condition it can become secondarily infected with a bacterial infection. Diagnosis is by clinical examination of the scalp as well as a skin lesion biopsy with microscopic examination. Anti-fungal medications, taken by mouth, are used to treat the infection.
Avatar m tn Maybe I'll go pick some up after work and give it a try... can't hurt right. Haven't been to a doctor about it.
