209227 tn?1242346745 hi i think the only slight difference is thaat humalog is slightly faster to act and be absorbed but they are exactly the same otherwise x
Avatar n tn I've never used Novolog, but had used Humalog for quite awhile until about 6 months ago. The Humalog worked pretty well for me,but when i switched to a pump, my doctor had me try Apidra and it's really worked great. My blood sugar comes down a lot faster with the Apidra and it keeps my post meal readings pretty good too....
Avatar n tn i where an minimed insulin pump and i get infections in the insertion site. humalog is not very stabe so maby try novolog or apidra. one reson for this is humalog has a active insulin time of more of 3 but novlog and apidra is 4. also you might want to try a tape kit it is where you put a tegaderm on your stomach and then insert the infusion set over that. usual that will help for some one like your child. i am not advised in the medical feild but i am a user of a pump.
Avatar n tn I had to go on county insurance because I lost my job, and they wont cover Humalog or Novolog. The only fast acting insulin they cover is Novolin R. The problem is that I am on an insulin pump. I know this stuff is different than what I was taking (Humalog, or the equivelent Novolog), but I don't know what it is going to do to me. My doctor isn't knowledgable and I'm stuck with her. I can't go anywhere else.
Avatar n tn I have noticed the beginning stages of cellulite around the areas where I give the Novolog injection. I am a 27 year old, juvenile onset diabetic. I am thin for my height and have never had a problem with cellulite until the change in medication. Can this be linked to either of the new insulins that I am taking?
Avatar n tn ve seen on Pumping Insulin provide some starting point guides on 2 ratios. The first is the one you mention, and the second is the computation for how many carbos one unit will cover. The specific ratios for each of us is best computed with the help of a CDE ... not because the math is hard (it isn't) but because of the specifics that can play a role in why our ratios would be higher/lower and what factors might suggest we need to change our ratios over time.
Avatar n tn I appreciate that you are not medical professionals or GPs but your insight is all the more appreciated as yours is knowledge that comes from the affliction of a loved one and this makes you uniquely qualified.
Avatar n tn My pen generally lasts me the whole month. My Humalog is only good for 28 - 30 days. As far as I know, once your insulin pen is opened, that's how long most of them last no matter how much insulin you use.
Avatar n tn do this several times in different days take humalog to the 500 rule do the carb test again notice how much you BG is lower than the other tests Adj the humalog till your BG rise is minamul. there is no quick answer, you have to find YOUR ratio the only way to find that is by testing.
Avatar n tn I'm having the same problem . The Dr says it does not work that way I'm just not taking enough take more . Doubled my lantas &taking up to25-40 unts with or without a meal . My a1 has gone from 7.1to 10.5 in the past two mths . My bs. Was 2751hr. After a small meal of all protein so I took 20unts novalog 2hrs later it was 380 took 25more cked it a he later it's 460 .
Avatar n tn Is lantus a better insulin or is Levimere just as good as Lantus using it as a basal 24 Hour insulin???. I get my supplies from the Military Hospital because I am a retired service member and they do not have the lantus solostar flex pen but they do have the levimer flex pen. I also noticed with Lantus I get hungary allot but I do not give into the temptation of eating and I only eat twice a day but a heck of lot less then I had in the past.
Boy You could ask your dr about Humalin-N and Humalin-R, which tend to be cheaper. But these are not available as mixed insulins and need to be taken as MDI (Humlin-N, twice a day, and humlin R- abouy 30 minutes before eating). To Reduce insulin requirements, you can follow a low carb diet, reduce weight (if overweight), and add in daily exercise. This should be done under medical supervision as these measures may mean you can reduce your insulin / at risk of low blood sugars.
Avatar n tn com/health/drugs/humalog#humalog-vs-novolog Often Humalog is given with other medication along with it. You may need that approach.
Avatar f tn Is he getting good results with the doses he is using? That is what matters and is a lot better determinant of whether the dose is correct than weight. If he stays within target range with infrequent highs or lows than it is working. In general the bolus dose (Humalog) will influence the blood sugar two hours after the meal and the basal (lantus) will influence the bg in between meals. You can also fast and do basal testing.
Avatar m tn Me to have had type i for thirty year my ac are better controlled with a insulin pump fill better now i get my humalog all the time.I was in a motocross crash in 2013 broke my clavicle all my ribs ripped my right lung hurt my pelvis and both hips 36 hours major surgeries 16 months of physical therapy.now i have diabetic neuropathy.legs are numb and feet are always hurting and cold and numb.but my blood sugars are always good my last a1c was 6.9 vs 11 five years ago when i got on a pump.
Avatar n tn So the idea is to adjust the insulin dose in order to try to reach that ideal range as often as possible throughout the day.
Avatar m tn Yes, I am now careful even with NPH. It is not as good as Lantus and overnight is the rough time. I find NPH plus an extre evening Humalog inhjection (4 per day) works best. I have considered a pump, but 5 injections probably give me the same coverage, and are more convienient. On another note, I am thinking of starting a disbetes support group in my area for long time type 1 diabetics. I would like to hear from anyone else who may have experience with such a group.
Avatar f tn Other options include both pumps (yes, for kids as young as 10 years old) or injections of long-lasting insulins like Lantus to provide a stable rate of ongoing insulin delivery (different for each person) plus either Novolog or Humalog at meals to cover the meals only. It sounds as if the mix is not doing the job properly for your son -- nowadays, you shouldn't have to keep forcing food to catch up with insulin nor should he have to live with high glucose levels several times a day.
Avatar n tn I just got back from lunch (I ate about an hour ago) and when I checked my blood sugar it was 310. It has gotten to where 250 - 300 is more the normal than before when it was about 80 - 120. My last A1C was 6.5 and I know that is within the normal range but before my surgery, it was more like 5.7. I really hate to increase the Lantus (I'm down from 60 units) because I'm afraid it will cause me to eat more and gain my weight back. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?
1340011 tn?1276617767 Insulin mixes are an out of date form of treatment. The standard is a basal insulin such as Lantus or Levemir and a bolus such as Novolog, Humalog or Apidra. You might want to work with an endo. Sounds like your other problems are complicating your diabetes, hang in there!
Avatar n tn This adds another injection to our routines, but it keeps some Lantus working while we sleep, only not as much as when we take the entire dose in the evening. For some, the split is about 50 percent in the morning and 50 percent in the evening, but in my own case, I take about 80 percent of my Lantus in the morning and 20 percent at night before bedtime.
Avatar n tn General feelings of itchiness accompany the outbreaks without apparent rash. I am attributing this to the new medication - Lantus - as all else remains basically stable in my life routine. I have tried correlating it with high doses of H due to high carb intake and then a possible mixing of the H with the Lantus. Neither theory panned out. Does anyone have any similar experiences?
Avatar n tn Just a word of advise, we have figured this out through trial and error, we have come across two types of needles for the pen. One is just the needle (it screws on to the top of the pen) the other is a needle (it also screws on to the top of the pen) but it has a plastic cylinder around the needle which you need to press firmly against the skin in order for it to retract the plastic then exposed the needle. My son found this needle very uncomfortable.
704262 tn?1247674638 Yes, you can take Novolog and Lantus in separate injections, but they may not be mixed in the same injection or at the same injection site. Generally Novolog is only prescribed if you follow a strict physician-approved routine. If you have a meter and strictly monitor results of various combinations under vary circumstances use of both medications should cause no problems. Be careful using the Novolog because you can easily drop your blood sugar to very low levels.
