Common Questions and Answers about Is hernia surgery elective

hernia-surgery

Avatar m tn An elective hernia surgery is not one of these surgeries and thus the aspirin should be continued daily despite having surgical repair of your hernia). Most cardiologist would say it is ok to hold the plavix around the time of your procedure. It may not need to be resumed after the procedure, but I would leave that up to your cardiologist who placed the stents in the first place.
Avatar n tn Any hernia needs to be surgically repaired to prevent complications like strangulation. The surgery is best performed as an elective surgery with all the adequate precautions, to prevent recurrence. So, as you wait for the surgery try to lose weight and if a diabetic, see that it is adequately controlled. But if you develop pain or redness or any signs of inflammation, please consult your doctor immediately. And the cosmetic repair of the abdomen could also be done with the hernia repair.
Avatar n tn The best thing is to get yourself examined and rule out hernia; if there is a hernia then you have to plan an elective surgery. Take care!
Avatar m tn Discuss with a surgeon and get it corrected by an elective surgery. If it is a reducible hernia then it is not an emergency and you can plan appropriately. With irreducible hernias you have to go for an emergency operation. Take care!
1166907 tn?1263101648 After surgery, he has to be precautious while bending down and lifting heavy weights. The aim of the surgery is wound strengthening, so that hernia does not occur again. If the gap is large, then a mesh may be used. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn A family member has a new inguinal hernia. It's not super painful, but there's a bulge about the size of half an egg cut longways, which gets bigger when he coughs or anything, but then goes back down to egg-sized. It also gets sore when he does too much walking or gets constipated. He's only had this hernia 2-3 weeks. It hurt much more at first, and never been nearly as painful as when it first happened, but he has some pain a few times a day, but its not really bad.
Avatar m tn Surgery is the only treatment and cure for inguinal hernias. The surgery is best performed as an elective surgery with all the adequate precautions, to prevent recurrence. As we do not maintain a directory of doctors in this forum, we cannot recommend any specialists. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Yes, this is true. It takes that long for the internal parts to heal correctly. You could risk a hernia, or even ripped stitches if you try to do too much too quickly. Laparoscopic is also the procedure with the fastest recovery time. It's that vs. an open procedure. Best wishes.
Avatar m tn t have symptoms now, the surgery is best performed as an elective surgery with all the adequate precautions, to prevent recurrence. The precautions you will have to take will be, to first rule out if you are a diabetic or not. If you are one, then your blood sugars must be brought to euglycaemic levels. The second precaution would be to see that the wound does not become infected; otherwise it will give way.
Avatar f tn If the hernia is reducible and if there is no inflammation or strangulation of the bowel, surgery is usually elective. If the above symptoms are there, then an emergency surgery may be mandatory. If at the ER they have ruled out complications due to the hernia, the pain could be due to other causes like renal colic or pelvic inflammatory diseases. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
10219953 tn?1426171839 They make you wait because getting your tubes tide is major surgery and if you just gave birth they don't want to put your body through more trauma. They want you to heal before you go in for major surgery. Have you tried asking your husband to get a vesectomy? It's way easier on a man to have one then for a women to go through getting her tubes tide. Plus most men can go directly back to work after the procedure. Just something to think about.
433485 tn?1321813390 A lot of what I have read say that in many cases it is elective, whether you want to repair or not. After major surgery, last year, I am not sure if I want to go that route but this is not major surgery. Thanks for your response.
Avatar n tn Hi, It would be a good idea to plan and schedule a cholecystectomy (gall bladder surgery) that is elective. The advantages are that the surgery can be done laparoscopically with minimal or no complications. A gall bladder that is inflammed or infected and has not received adequate attention in time can develop complications such as fibrosis or adhesions to surrounding structures which make it difficult to free the structure during an emergency surgery.
Avatar m tn As I have ESLD surgery to repair it is really the least of my problems. And any elective surgery are not recommended as the risks of infection, anesthesia and other complication are far worse than a harmless hernia. Unless there is severe pain caused by the intestines getting twisted or caught in the opening, surgery for cirrhotics is not recommended. Let us know what the ultrasound results are.
Avatar m tn No. An elective surgery would not be safe during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn I have a groin hernia which I have had forever and also bad hips and really am worried about a natural birth
Avatar n tn Elective Cosmetic surgery is 100% the choice of the patient to have surgery performed. Therefore, in my opinion it is the patient's responsiblity to seek out the best surgeon, (are they board certified? contacting other patients for input, any medical complaints or action taken?) this may take several consutations, but it is paramount to elective cosmetic surgery.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am a 49 y/o female. Several weeks ago I noticed a soft movable lump in my right groin area. I have a history of a right inguinal hernia which was repaired appx. 27 years ago. My physician thought it not to be a recurring hernia but rather a enlarged lymph node and placed me on antibiotics and ordered a Ultrasound of the right groin. The ultrasound suggested it to be a complex cyst.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with a small hiatus hernia 2 yrs ago that is the reason for ppi. I am now suffering with pain across my collarbone which is sore to touch and pains in my forearms, wrists and hands(mostly left). I am also getting a burning pins and needles feeling in my face. This is really getting on my nerves now as doc keeps saying it is the reflux. I dont know what avenue to take next any suggestions.
Avatar f tn I am wary of elective surgery. To much can go wrong. I have been using eye drops, that the Europeans have been using for at least two decades, that reverse cataracts.
Avatar f tn My EKG came back okay enough that surgeries were done after my P.O.T.S. diagnosis. What kind of abnormality did you have? P.O.T.S. involves sinus tachycardia in an upright position and generally would not be reflected on an EKG lying down, I don't believe. I'm not sure how long my laporotomies were, but I had two of them after my P.O.T.S. diagnosis & other surgeries as well, including an elective surgery. After my I.S.T. & P.O.T.S.
Avatar n tn I absolutely recommend elective surgery. My sigmoid perforated and I had emergency surgery to remove my sigmoid. Catch was I had a colostomy bag for 3 months while the infection in my abdomin cleared and the colon healed. Then got reconnected 3 months later. While the bag wasn't horrible, mostly because I knew it was temporary, one surgery vs. two is better.
