Avatar n tn The doctor is switching me to simvastatin which reacted badly with my liver in the past. Aim is to save money. Is it safe to buy Atorvastatin online ?
Avatar f tn My endocrinologist prescribed me Atorvastatin 40mg in place of the simvastatin but it has since given my major chest pain and muscle weakness in my fingers and legs; so I was advised by the pharmacist to stop that and I have only taken the new statin twice and tonight was the second time taking it. Is simvastatin something that can be eased up to a higher dose to do the exact same thing atorvastatin does for the bad cholesterol?
Avatar n tn Is atorvastatin or pravastatin better at monitoring cholestoral? My doctor prescribed the generic pravastatin as a more afordable alternative to atorvastatin but also doubled the amount I take (from 20 mg of atorvastatin to 40 mg of pravastatin). Should I be concerned about the effectiveness of pravastatin?
Avatar f tn Due to the potential for severe interaction, concomitant use of atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin with telaprevir is considered contraindicated. Red yeast rice, which contains lovastatin, should also be avoided during treatment with telaprevir. Fluvastatin, pravastatin, pitavastatin, and rosuvastatin are probably safer alternatives, since they are not metabolized by CYP450 3A4.

Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar n tn I have been taking simvastatin 10 mg per day for 5 years. On a recent blood test my potassium level was above normal. I stopped taking simvastatin. After 3 months I took another blood test and now my cholesterol level has risen to 6.5. What shall I do. I am seeing my Doctor next week.
Business man2 I cannot give you personal recommendations as I am not your physician, but in my patients I ask them to take their atorvastatin at night as it has better activity. I try to have my patients take very little daily ibuprofen/naproxen as they can lead to kidney disease (based on total lifetime dose), high blood pressure (meloxicam) and stomach ulcers. Also, the anti-platelet effect of aspirin (which is how it prevents heart attacks) is reduced when taken with daily ibuprofen/naproxen.
Avatar n tn Statins do not suit everyone. My next door neighbour who is in his 60s had a severe reaction to simvastatin and now refuses to take any statins. My husband too refuses to take statins. The bad high cholesterol can be reduced through exercise and consuming the right type of foods and losing weight if this is an issue. Hope all goes well for you. Best wishes.
446474 tn?1446347682 The agency singled out atorvastatin (Lipitor), rosuvastatin (Crestor), and simvastatin (Zocor) for the new warnings and restated a warning about mixing lovastatin (Mevacor) with HIV and HCV drugs. Today's FDA safety communication follows label changes announced Tuesday that added cautions about new onset diabetes and transient memory problems for users of any of the cholesterol-lowering drugs in the statin class.

Avatar f tn Simvastatin is a simple statin and is very safe. Your doctor would not put you on it for low HDL (good cholesterol) as it does not increase HDL, it lowers LDL or bad cholesterol. Do you know what your breakdown was? In any case, statins are very safe and proving to me more safe all the time. The risk of any side effect is anywhere between 2% and 5% which classifies this as very safe. Common side effects are muscle pain and sore joints.
348629 tn?1212325673 High cholesterol: atorvastatin (one brand: Lipitor) and simvastatin (one brand: Zocor) High blood pressure: felodipine (one brand: Plendil), nifedipine (one brand: Procardia), and nisoldipine (one brand: Sular) Heart arrhythmia (when your heartbeat isn't normal): amiodarone (one brand: Cordarone) and disopyramide (one brand: Norpace) If you don't know if the medicine you are taking interacts with grapefruit, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Avatar m tn Usually diet and exercise is the best first place to start, but with an LDL this high I would probably recommend starting a cholesterol lowering medication as well, such as a statin (e.g. atorvastatin, simvastatin). All medications have potential side effects, but the statins are relatively well tolerated by most people and your doctor should be watching for any dangerous side effects (which are rare).
Avatar m tn Complete regimen for battle with hbv- TNF, ntz, pegifn, phyllanthus, andrographis, vit b complex, vit a,c,d,e, artesunate, zinc, selenium, cobalt, amino acid caps, a statin simvastatin or atorvastatin, liv52hb, iron Gcmaf is not available in my country so can't do anything for that. Avatar f tn 9% with pravastatin (Pravachol), 14.9% with atorvastatin (Lipitor), and 18.2% with simvastatin (Zocor). And you have been on both atorvastatin (Lipitor) and pravastatin (Pravachol). Once you stopped taking statin, the pain and aches should resolve. However, for some patients, it may take up to 2 months for symptom resolution.
907968 tn?1292622204 LOL!! Same thing happened with one or two other threads of mine. I don't mind at all and as a mater of fact, both of you have given quite a bit of information in more ways than one. You both confirm my observation that Crestor is, for lack of a better description, "more powerful" than Simvastatin, I believe 2/3 to2x(?).
Avatar n tn I take lipitor (atorvastatin) which is the one with the lowest recorded number of side effects. I have been taking 40mg for over three years with no problems at all and my cholesterol numbers are excellent. With the symptoms you describe you should get to your Doctor quickly to change over to another alternative because muscle damage can result which can end up being irreversible.
620048 tn?1358018235 They read up on all of her meds called the Dr. he stopped the simvastatin and she is much better now and cont to improve. My husband is on it and has no problems. As with most drugs, they affect people different.
Avatar m tn I ran out 10 days ago and now my rash is gone. I looked up simvastatin on the internet and found out from the MedicineNet.com site that "A serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.".
Avatar n tn My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern. Is it true that I do not have other options?
