907968 tn?1292625804 LOL!! Same thing happened with one or two other threads of mine. I don't mind at all and as a mater of fact, both of you have given quite a bit of information in more ways than one. You both confirm my observation that Crestor is, for lack of a better description, "more powerful" than Simvastatin, I believe 2/3 to2x(?).
Avatar m tn The only compound that will block this receptor in a noncompetitive manner and acts definitely without doubt as an HBV entry blocker in humans is Myrcludex, at a dose that is about 10 times higher than the one currently used in the russian trials. How is your surface antigen reduction thus far on ifn?

Borderline high cholesterol--Total level is between 200 and 239 mg/dL or LDL is 130 to 159 mg/dL. High blood cholesterol--Total level is greater than 240 mg/dL or LDL is 160 mg/dL or higher. For patients with heart disease, LDL above 100 mg/dL is too high. In addition, an HDL level less than 35 mg/dL is considered low and increases the risk of heart disease.
Avatar n tn , progesterone, hydroxyprogesterone caroate, medroxyprogesterone acetate), a statin (e.g. Simvastatin, Atorvastatin), and an antidiabetic agent (e.g., Rosiglitazone). In an embodiment, the antidiabetic agent includes Rosiglitazone, and culturing the second-pass cells includes culturing the second-pass cells in a culture medium including Rosiglitazone.
Avatar n tn Hi Michael, It sounds like that is a pretty small artery -- and if it is that small they probably don't need to open it. There is good data for Atorvastatin (Lipator) 80 mg causing plaque regression compared to simvastatin (Zocor). The regression data is by intravascular ultrasound quantitating the plaque volume. http://www.forbes.com/home_europe/2003/11/12/cx_mh_1112pfe.html Lipator has not been compared directly to Crestor for plaque regression.

Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar m tn Heart attack, which occurs in persons under the age of 40, is always severe, making it more pertinent that prevention is better than cure, says cardiologist Dr Alok Singh. "After the age of 30, one should go for regular check up in form of fasting blood sugar, lipid profile, CRP, homocysteine levels, uric acid and computerised stress test or Multislice CT Angio.
Business man2 I cannot give you personal recommendations as I am not your physician, but in my patients I ask them to take their atorvastatin at night as it has better activity. I try to have my patients take very little daily ibuprofen/naproxen as they can lead to kidney disease (based on total lifetime dose), high blood pressure (meloxicam) and stomach ulcers. Also, the anti-platelet effect of aspirin (which is how it prevents heart attacks) is reduced when taken with daily ibuprofen/naproxen.
446474 tn?1446351282 The agency singled out atorvastatin (Lipitor), rosuvastatin (Crestor), and simvastatin (Zocor) for the new warnings and restated a warning about mixing lovastatin (Mevacor) with HIV and HCV drugs. Today's FDA safety communication follows label changes announced Tuesday that added cautions about new onset diabetes and transient memory problems for users of any of the cholesterol-lowering drugs in the statin class.

Avatar n tn I take lipitor (atorvastatin) which is the one with the lowest recorded number of side effects. I have been taking 40mg for over three years with no problems at all and my cholesterol numbers are excellent. With the symptoms you describe you should get to your Doctor quickly to change over to another alternative because muscle damage can result which can end up being irreversible.
Avatar m tn probiotic help my lipids, what i meant is will it help someone stage 1 to keep damage to a minimum while waiting for better drugs to be approved?
1806721 tn?1554337007 Here's the line from the study that is being left out when talking about the link between statins and diabetes; "The report calculated that one fewer patient would experience a heart attack or other cardiovascular problem for every 155 patients treated for a year — and there would be one additional case of diabetes for every 498 patients treated." In other words, your chance for developing heart disease is decreased at a much higher rate than the risk of developing diabetes.
Avatar f tn Is cholesterol the only cause? Of course not, but don't you think some one with an LDL of 75 is better off than an person with an LDL of 200? For the record, studies have been funded by the NIH to prove links to some of the serious side effects and statin use, none have been conclusive to date. In fact, they are now finding additional uses for statins. It is being recommended that statins be prescribed both before and after invasive surgery due to their ability to control inflammation.
Avatar m tn Larger doses of statin drugs are associated with greater likelihood of side effects, and additional risk factors such as other drugs, older age, diabetes and high triglycerides also increase the likelihood of adverse effects. In addition to these known adverse effects, there is debate over whether statins may have detrimental effects on brain function. Approximately 17 percent of patients who take a statin experience an adverse effect.

Avatar f tn All medication inhibits or retards the body chemistry, and who really knows the outcome later and there is no way to assess and a gamble...Is better to be in the 99% group or the possibility to be the sole beneficiary of the medication?!
612551 tn?1450025775 I believe, don't remember the details (I'm older than you), that both the Statin drugs and BB have some additional beneficial side effects - I too take Simvastatin, I was on Lipator and asked for a change when my private insurance (I still have that coverage, and believe it is better than the Medicare Part D - or whatever it is called) made me pick up a large portion of the high cost of Lipator. Lipator got me down to about 150 from a history of 240 for my total cholesterol.
Avatar m tn There is currently a Phase II study going on with Fluvastatin along with regular SOC treatment and because Fluvastatin, like Alinia, is already an approved drug, it would be available sooner and more easily than the PI drugs, for example, currently in trial. http://www.hepatitis-central.com/mt/archives/2008/04/fluvastatin_low.html These links really made me sit up and take notice.
Avatar f tn Thanks stef for your input. A few questions below: "as to hbsag quantity: less than 1000iu/ml very low hcc risk equal to those who cleared hbv more than 1000iu/ml higher risk so i d definitely check this and try to keep it less than 1000iu/ml by combo etv+intf or tdf+intf.intf should have also an effect on immune system against hcc but i am not expert on intf during hcc or after resection so you have to check with very expert liver specialsts.
Avatar m tn We already confirmed the effectiveness of high dose IFN-alpha-2b induction in combination with RIB when the treatment period was limited to 24 weeks. In this study, it is evaluated whether IFN induction is also effective in the 48-week combination therapy using pegylated IFN-alpha-2b plus RIB. Methods: Forty patients chronically infected with genotype 1b HCV were divided into 2 groups. Thirty-two patients underwent standard 48-week combination therapy using 1.
Avatar n tn I'm not saying that I couldn't lick this thing without Statins, but realistically it would probably involve more of a lifestyle/diet change than is realistic. I'm close to 60 years old, exercise regularly, am close to my ideal weight, eat very few saturated fats. Bad genetics are just bad genetics I'm afraid.
976897 tn?1379171202 For every study one posts against statins I can post one for statins, it's hard to know what to believe. My opinion is based on the simple thinking that less cholesterol is better. Obviously less LDL the better. I know about all the reports that say 50-75% of those that die of heart attacks had what was considered to be normal cholesterol levels, that is just useless information in my opinion.
Avatar f tn The Alinia has made him a much better responder but it is still falling short as he is responding too slow. It was planned to have him stop after the 24th week if he wasn't nondetectible. At 20 weeks his viral load was 207 and at week 24 it was 250...not good. The doctor's office called and said not to quit yet and we have an appointment on December 2nd to decide what to do.
Avatar m tn The lipid modification effects appeared to be similar to pravastatin, simvastatin, lovastatin, atorvastatin, or fluvastatin. Compared with non-statin lipid lowering agents, RYR preparations appeared superior to nicotinate and fish oils, but equal to or less effective than fenofibrate and gemfibrozil. No significant difference in lipid profile was found between Xuezhikang and Zhibituo.
Avatar f tn I just wanted to say thank you to everyone. I saw my sister last night and she is doing a lot better, much better than I am right now, so thank you for your support.

21064 tn?1309312333 I have a pretty fun little program that is great for researching pharmaceuticals. Here is the list it brang up for heart disease and arrhythmia's. I'm not sure how thorough it is, but I thought I might list these in case you don't already have some of them. I noticed some drugs were listed under 2 catagories, so watch for those... 1.
