ACE raises blood pressure by constricting blood vessels. ACE inhibitors like enalapril prevent this effect. Enalapril has been shown to lower the death rate in systolic heart failure as does Lisinopril. It is difficult to distinquish what medicaation is better than another without knowing what other medications ae taken, any side effects, etc.
Ezetimibe was found to have a 50%inhibition conc of 25micromolar, while irbesartan, a commonly used angiotensin inhibitor to reduce blood pressure, was found to inhibit at 11.9 micromolar. Both compounds have similar MW, but irbesartan is given at up to 300mg per day, while exetimibe is dosed at 10mg. Thus the combination of 30fold higher approved dose and the double micromolar inhibition potency makes, in theory, irbesartan 60 fold more potent to inhibit Hbv entry.
m currently taking Irbesartan every morning and is now controlled well. I enjoy traveling in hot conditions, some days can be up to 39 degrees. Can my blood pressure medication stand such heat if I was to say just put it in my wallet? I'm always traveling to different places and don't always have access to a fridge or ice to take on hand. If not, are there any other heat resistance BP medication i can try?
I have been on Enalapril 5mg twice a day for over a year now... and since March 2011 I have been experiencing skipped beats as well and have been experiencing a lot of chest discomfort and pain.. I have been to the cardiologist several times for this and everything has checked out all right.. I am planning on seeing my doctor sometime within the next couple of weeks to see if he can figure out what is going on...
He was started on Enalapril 2.5 mg twice a day. He was taken off it in August becasue he had feeling that his heart was slowing down,, felt dizzy and short of breath. Since he has been off the medication he has been feeling better. He does complain of feeling a little tired and Short of breath.
Can you please advise if I am taking high blood pressure medication (irbesartan) and Altorvastatin for high cholesteron and I am also taking Tamoxafin for breast cancer (about to come off this drug), is it adviseable to take Leptin Cocoa for health weight loss or would this affect the medications?
put me on lowest dose of Losartan and I got joint pain in my thumbs and then in a knee so I weaned myself off but my BP was very high (systolic) during visit. He puts me on Irbesartan, SAME class of drug, then goes on VACATION. It's the smallest dose and I took a corner of a pill yesterday, no pill today, BP is fine, I'm in PAIN. My thumbs hurt, my right foot and left knee, I don't feel well and then I read that all of this are side effects of this drug.
Two years ago I had a Retriever that had Lymphoma Cancer. Near the end of her life, the Vet put her on larger doses of Prednisone as well as put her on Enalapril to control heaving "heaving" episodes she had every time she got up from laying down, etc. These worked for a while but she eventually had to be Euthanized due to the severity of her Cancer and how far it spread.
My other dog is now ill.
His cardiologist sent his echo to the board of surgeons who thought it would be best to do a repair of this valve but then decided to put him on enalapril for 6 month and then do another echo to see if the enalapril is helping. Is it likely that these changes will continue to increase or will the enalapril keep his heart functioning well enough that he will not need surgery?
I am a male 70 years of age. I have been on 150mg Irbesartan and 5mg Amlodipine daily since October 2010. This controlled by BP within acceptable limits. Since late April, however, the systolic has risen to an average of around 150. My doctor wants me to add a beta blocker to the other medications. Since last October my heart rate was averaging below 60. Since late April it is averaging around 70.
Until late August my BP was generally140/75 but since then it is higher and despite 2 months of titration ( enalapril in several dosages) and adding 2mg Cardura to twice daily enalapril and 50 mg Toprol XL, it just fluctuates wildly during the day, and day to day, seemingly without regard to enalapril dosages being doubled, tripled, quadrupled or reduced.
my friend just started taking trandolapril 1mg and Irbesartan its only been a couple days but she feels awful
dizzy, heart palpatations, head ache and her blood pressure is still really high 190/110
should she just stick it out?
Hi My son is 9 years old and we saw the cardiologist in April 2010 for a 6 month follow-up. He was on Enalapril 2.5 mg bid but was taken off of it after complaining of symptoms of shortness of breath, and dizziness and his B/P was stable. This is his height 142 cm and weight 36 kg HR 70 and B/P 90/52. RVDd 1.1cm, IVSd 0.88 cm, IVSs 1.2 cm, LVPWs 1.2 cm, Ao root Diam 2.4 cm, LVIDd 5.1 cm, LVIDs 3.5 cm, LVPWd 0.91 cm,LA dimensions 2.9cm, asc Aorta 3.1cm.
I am also giving him Vetmedin, spironolactoneI and enalapril. Is there anyway to get him to eat anything? I know his condition is dire, but if he has no nutrition how can he regain strength? The vet won't give him hydration because of the fluid build up. Is CHF that much different than the cardiomyopathy? I feel so helpless.

I have a 12 year old male himilayan that was diagnosed with hcm in February of 07. He is on enalapril every day. The vet is suggesting I have a follow up ultrasound done on his heart. I have absolutely no problem spending the money, but will this test show them anything that may cure him. Are there better treatments than the enalapril? I am so afraid of what they may find.
They also thing he is beginning to have hyperthyroidism.

As a consequence, he took me off of enalapril (generic for Vasotec), an ACE inhibitor to control hypertension. He also prescribed epinephrine (to be self-injected) should I develop a life-threatening swelling of the throat. However, he seemed confident that abandoning enalapril should prevent any recurrence.
