Common Questions and Answers about Infection knee

infection

Avatar f tn Many online sites, and acquaintences, warn about infection in the knee after knee replacement. Although the doctor uses a pre-surgery antibiotic and tests for MRSA (staph) and treats if needed, the threat of infection still seems to hover over such surgeries. The hospital has given me a special cleanser to use the week before surgery. I have had my teeth cleaned. And, I do understand that if I get sick, surgery will be rescheduled.
Avatar f tn Strict asepsis should be maintained and the primary problem for knee replacements is infection and secondary is deep vein thrombosis. With infection the healing is disturbed and it becomes very difficult to treat and you have to follow regular exercises at your ankle to avoid deep vein thrombosis. If infection is not completely cured it relapses and also there are resistant staphylococci to many antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Did the knee infection happen soon after it was placed in the knee? If so it could have come from surgery. Meaning that perhaps a bacteria on the skin got into the knee when they did surgery. Often it is due to a Staphyloccus species type of bacteria. But other bacteria can occur in these devices. Pancreatitis is inflammation or swelling of the pancreas and usually isn't infected. But it is also possible to get an infection in an organ.
Avatar m tn Hi im here to ask a question about herpes infection, on feb 1 of this year i had protected sex with a csw, two weeks later i came down with a flu and severe body aches and realized i had 11 little red painful bumps behind my right knee i ignored it thinking it was spider bites. So on feb 25 i went back to the same csw to have sex with her again (protected) so when she was in the doggy position i saw two red bumps on her anus i freaked out and pulled out immediately.
Avatar n tn I am due for a total knee replacement in 2 weeks. I have a mild sinus infection, with some blood. I am wondering if this would pose a danger for infection occurring in the knee after surgery.
Avatar m tn Left knee replaced 6/09. Right knee replaced 10/09 . Recovery Beyond expectations. Motion on both 125. Pain free left knee and almost on right knee after extensive PT. In November stiffness and soreness and some further swelling appeared around prosthesis. Difficult now to get up and down on chairs. Walking O.K.. Surgeon says no infection and nothing that he can see. X-Rays normal. He tried cortisone in the bursa - no help. Dead end here.
Avatar m tn I sounds like your mother has an infection in her knee. Has she seen another doctor regarding the problems she is having?
2194148 tn?1397323475 t isolate the infection, so finally, after 4 more surgeries, they did a biopsy and found that the bacteria that was causing my knee infection is ONLY SUPPOSED TO LIVE IN MY STOMACH! Even the doctor that performed the biopsy was confused. Anyway, it left my knee is horrible shape and so loose I could barely walk, so in 2015, I had a second replacement. This one is much larger and supposedly "sturdier" than the last one.

Avatar m tn The best treatment, presently for Osteoarthritis , is Total knee replacement. Can you upload her knee X-rays on the photo section, so that i will be able to comment on that.
Avatar f tn No, as knee replacement is a surgery where external body is placed inside the arthritic joint so the most common side effect of a knee replacement is infection, and some times clots, not the same with knee manipulatiion. Take care!
Avatar n tn The first is that your outbreaks occur on the knee rather than the genitals. This is important because herpes infection live in nerve roots and the nerve roots which supply the front of the knee do not overlap with the nerve roots that serve the genitals. On the other hand, the nerves which supply the back of the knee are the same as the genitals.
Avatar f tn The docs I worked for had to remove the new knee THEN clear up the infection and THEN replace the knee hardware (new knee hardware) if an infection occurred post op. They probably only had one or two of those happen the many years I worked for them. They are not that common but have to be treated properly if they do occur. I would make another appointment to address your concerns with the doc. If you don’t get anywhere I would seriously think about getting a second opinion ASAP!
Avatar n tn I had "Total knee replacement" 2 months ago. I have had "pain in my leg" since I had the " and the doctor says there is nothing wrong. The pain goes "down my calf, behind my knee and a little above my knee." Once in awhile it gets slightly red and warm. Pain killers really don;t do anything for this. I don't know what to do. I had no pain before the surgery except for the knee.
Avatar n tn Hi! I have been searching the internet for answers and am so glad to have found this blog. I am 49 yrs old and had to have a partial knee replacement in Aug of 2015, I started having swelling that would subside a month after surgery. I told my physical therapist how limited I was but didn't go back to the surgeon to rule out infection until Feb 2015. Putting kids first. Right away they thought no infection because my knee wasn't red or hot.
Avatar n tn I hope you are talking about his knee or close to the knee. If it is the knee, a meniscus or cruciate tear can produce the problem you are discussing. If this is totally unrelated to the knee joint, than this may be serious, since crackling in a muscle could mean gangrene or a similar condition, such as a clostridium infection. Whatever the cause it is painful and should be addressed ASAP by a veterinarian.
Avatar m tn After recover from FHMD(Foot Hand Mouth Disease), he complian that his knee joint is painful. I am not sure what causes the pain. The doctor told me that likely due to infection that may resulted in pain.
Avatar f tn The fluid coming out will need to be cultured. Also, your doctor needs to examine the knee for infection, bleeding and fistula formation. Call your doctor immediately. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.

Avatar n tn I have had both of my knees operated on and the bursa sacks removed.the right knee is now fine but the left one continues to swell to the size of a softball. What can I do?
Avatar n tn s right knee which has traces of infection in the bone. Despite 20 years- doctors keep denying him and even though he has gone to a knee specialist;in Kings College i feel that there is so much more that can be done. Due to his arthritis and overwhelming pain he finds it very hard to stand up and walk and the more he gains weight the worse it becomes for his knee -however he literally can't walk for long periods yet a lone exercise.
Avatar n tn I had a total knee replacement in October 08 which was very successful. However, in January I came down with blepharitis. After 2 doctors, drops and antibiotics they now have stuck pins in the blister like sores that line my eyes and suggest I see a surgeon to have the under my eyelids scraped out. These blisters when broken, bleed and ooze. In addition to this infection I went to the dentist for cleaning. I took the prescribed antibioics before and all was fine.

Avatar n tn When I was younger, I got my belly button pierced and my body rejected it. I also have had knee surgery and a screw was placed in my knee cap. After a year, the screw started to hurt and caused me numerous problems. The doctor told me that it was probably infected and it needed to be removed. I have been worrying that if I did get a boob job, my body could possibly reject the breast implants or cause an infection. Is this possible?
