Avatar f tn I have had what I think maybe a fungal infection on 1 quarter of my scalp for 6 months. It is highly unpleasant by weeping when I scratch it & then healing over. This cycle I’ve tried to break by visiting my doctor who prescribed medical shampoo but with no results. It is almost as if I’ve developed plaque psoriasis but it is not evident in my family, but I have been under a great deal of stress.
Avatar n tn In my first e-mail, I listed that I had no flakes. I have red bumps on my scalp in that one area (the scalp behind the lower part of my right ear and down to the end of my hairline just on my right side) and on my right underarm. So I'm wondering how can it be seborrheic dermatitis? Isn't there something else that it might be?
Avatar f tn Here is a post from MedHelp that may help you. You may have to use the Ketoconazole shampoo for a long time ( such as 6 weeks for it to work). Some fungi are resistant to it so you may want to try Terbinafine shampoo or pills. But I would read some of the posts below. They may be helpful. http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms of itchy scalp , your son may be suffering from Tinea Capitis or Ringworm (fungal infection) of the scalp. Ringworm is a fungal skin infection that occurs on the face, body or scalp. The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. The other possibility is of atopic dermatitis of the scalp.
429647 tn?1249753429 I shaved about 2 days after that. I now have a terrible infection on my scalp. It looks like severe acne and is all over my head. My Dr. put me on an antibiotic and hibiclense wash twice daily. It hurts, especially when I get this tingling sensation. They first thought it might be shingles but I guess they decided it wasn't since it was all over my head and not just on one side. Has anyone had this problem with their hair loss.
Avatar n tn Lately I have been having severe sharp shooting pains in a specific area of the scalp on the right side. The scalp in this region is also remarkably warmer than anywhere else on the head. I have had several coworkers confirm this. Upon research of this it seems to be possibly anxiety, but nothing I have looked at so far has addressed the temperature change of the specific area of the scalp.
Avatar n tn The typical signs of scalp ringworm infection are reddening, crusting, and scaling of the scalp. Intense itching usually occurs as well. The specific pattern depends on the infecting organisms.Diagnosed by wood lamp examination, microscopic examination of the skin scrapings and culture of the scalp scrapings. Treatment includes washing ths scalp with shampoo with selenium sulfide (2.5%) or zinc pyrithione (1-2%) used 2-3 times weekly at home.
Avatar n tn Hello, From the symptoms that you have described it sounds like tinea capitis(fungal infection) or ringworm of the scalp. The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss or tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. It is contagious and can spread direct contact with someone who has the condition, or if you touch contaminated items such as combs, hats, clothing, or similar surfaces.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am not sure what symptoms you are having, but it can be due to fungal scalp infection and superimposed bacterial infection causing swollen lymph node also. the other possibility is of a cyst or some benign skin lesion. To confirm the diagnosis, I suggest you to get an evaluation done from a dermatologist. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn im constantly scratching scalp and my hair is falling out like its going out of style my scalp and hair is very sticky especially after its wet i also have little hair coming off of my hairs i have a weird wet feelingcoming through scalp like something is leaking from underneath my scalp i think this is the reason also to my balance and head problems there is a build up of something that keeps forming on scalp and i was also get a burning smell after i scratch scalp i am in desperate need o
Avatar n tn There is hair loss with visible scalp disease and there is hair loss without scalp disease. In your case, the hair loss may be associated with both the fungal infection and another underlying condition of seborrheic dermatitis. At this point, there is really no effective medical therapy for hair loss. If your hair loss is associated with tinea and seborrheic dermatitis then the underlying disorders need to be addressed first. Hair loss also has a genetic basis.
Avatar f tn I have been having sharp stabbin pains in my left ear all day and now my scalp is tender to even soft touch on left side. Could this be anything to do with sinus infection?
Avatar m tn Seemed to think problem was other than tooth-- possible ear infection or sinus infection. He gave me two perscriptions. I then went to see my primary care Dr. who examined upper respiratory system. He seems to think I have a sinus infection but said it could also be start of shingles. He converted my dentist's perscriptions to vicodin, azithromycin, & MucinexD. Still much pain 12 hrs. later. Hope this stuff works. Your comments?
Avatar m tn In what ways are my symptoms not characteristic of HIV? what are characteristics of HIV infection? Best M.
Avatar m tn I guess I forgot to ask the question in all of that. Is there some other way of treating/curing the scalp infection without further aggravating the possible gram-negative folliculitus (caused by the prolong use of the antibiotic)? P.S. Confirming the gram-negative folliculitus with a doctors appointment.
Avatar m tn Hi All, I too have been sufferring from severe folliculitis of the scalp for the past 7-8 years or so, and my efforts have all been futile. After years of searching the Internet, I could not believe that I found stories exactly like my own. I finished a course of Isotretinoin (actually had to stop early as it triggered a case of Folliculitis Decalvans which I'm attempting to treat simultaneously) last July 2014. During this course, I was 100% cleared.
Avatar m tn Hello, You may be suffering from Tinea Capitis or Ringworm (fungal infection) of the scalp. Ringworm is a fungal skin infection that occurs on the face, body or scalp. The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. Because of the scratching that is involved with the condition it can become secondarily infected with a bacterial infection.

Avatar f tn Hello, It can be due to tinea capitis which is due to fungal infection of the scalp. The bumps can be due to perifolliculitis scalp which again are caused by a fungal infection. It is contagious and can spread direct contact with someone who has the condition, or if you touch contaminated items such as combs, hats, clothing, or similar surfaces. Diagnosis is by clinical examination of the scalp as well as a skin lesion biopsy with microscopic examination.
