Common Questions and Answers about Infection from dog bite

infection

Avatar f tn No, your current rabies vaccination schedule will prevent infection from the second bite, if the dog did indeed have rabies.
Avatar f tn Also it could be that you have another infection from the bite. Dog bites are very dirty and have a tendency to get infected easily. You need to contact your doctor again and if you aren't getting the answers there have them refer you to another doctor. I Hope This Helps.
Avatar f tn Puncture wounds of any type are difficult to treat and very prone to infection, especially when those punctures come from an animal bite. My guess is that since he did not seek medical assistance for more than three weeks after the bite, that the infection could be relatively severe. Therefore, it may take a while for it to clear up - and may even require more than one round o fantibiotics.
Avatar m tn t know the laws where you are but if you go to the doctor with a dog bite injury, in Texas it must be reported to the appropriate authorities. But you do need medical attention. If the dog in question has not had rabies vaccination, it needs to be located and held for observation. If it does have rabies, you will need shots for rabies. This viral disease is fatal to humans and animals alike. For the CDC on rabies click here: http://www.cdc.

Avatar m tn Another dog recently bit my dog. He has a small, semi-deep puncture wound. I shaved the area, washed it thoroughly with running warm water, and then rinsed it with diluted betadine. I'm leaving the wound undressed to allow for drainage. Here is a picture of it. Should I do anything more, such as neosporin or a topical anti-biotic?
Avatar f tn First, your dog MUST be treated for the bite wound.....Bite wounds are notorious for complications! The swelling indicates infection...Although it may not look bad to you (On the outside), the depth of the wound is where complications arise.....Infection will spread quickly and is very dangerous... Next: Because Rabies has been brought up (By your Neighbor), Unless he has proof of a Vaccine certificate, legally his dog MUST go into quarantine (At your Vets office) for observation......
Avatar m tn What kind of dog was it in other words was it a little dog, medium size dog or large dog ? You ask if you have a risk for rabies infection. No, you don't. That is not how rabies is transmitted. You can't get rabies from a pile of clothes. Do not let your kitten outside. Is the kitten a male or a female kitten? I assume you brought the kitten to a vet to be vaccinated ? You should have a litter box for the kitten. What part of the kitten's body did the dog bite ?
Avatar f tn Should I be worried about infection from the bite from his dirty doggie mouth? I cleaned it pretty well and my aunt is still not back from the hospital. Is it safe to be around a mean dog like this while pregnant and if I get bit is my baby at risk?
Avatar f tn This is not medical advice, since barnacles would probably have different bacteria than a dog bite, but do keep the wound(s) clean and make sure to see a doctor for any signs of infection (I was given an antibiotic as precaution).
Avatar m tn m fine as well aside from little pain around the bite area. Should I be worried? Please help me!
516285 tn?1211547390 Yes, there can be swelling after a bite. IMHO, taking him to the vet about the swelling was a good thing. You have done everything you can for your dog and I'm sure he knows it. He is a young dog but being bitten must have been traumatic for him and you. Was he attacked by another dog or were they playing? Either way, the history of the biter is something you might want to find out about.
Avatar f tn my friend is hiv positive..and his dog bit me tonight..im wondering if his dog bit him can the dog get hiv and pass it to others through a bite...any answers will def help..

Avatar m tn I got ***** for anti rabies after approximately 44 or 45 hrs of bite. My doctor said it's not going to of any use.
Avatar n tn It takes a while to develop flu like symptoms or another sign is itching in a bite wound. One usually gets rabies from the bite of an infected animal, or getting the saliva of an infected animal into a open wound. Hope this answers your question. Best to vaccinate your dog and keep it on a leash as there is a leash law in California and you can be held liable if it causes damage to someone else. https://www.cdc.gov/rabies/symptoms/index.
1618629 tn?1308270701 I did not know the status of the dog and I left Dallas within hours of the bite... the more I thought about this situation the more fearful I became about my health...all I could do is think about Rabies. I started taking the vaccinations and became ill... flu like feeling, headaches and anxiety and fear of death...
Avatar n tn It sounds like your dog may have an infection. Is the dog eating? Is it drinking excessively? What is the breed of the dog? How old is the dog? Knowing these things helps more than most people realize. Some breeds are more prone to certain types of skin infections. I would make a trip to the Vet to be safe. The dog probably needs an antibiotic as well a some medicated shampoo depending what is found. You also want a blood test done so the the dog's WBC and RBC can be evaluated.
Avatar f tn hi I am not a Vet, nor am I a dog recent dog owner....but I do have access to a few sites that I will send you, starting with the following....if I find more useful info I will post it to you later...good luck helping this poor puppy imagine how uncomfortable it must be for him... http://www.petmd.com/dog/conditions/ears/c_dg_cholesteatoma?
Avatar m tn The thing that scares me about this is that you said she vomited and had diarrhea, a number of things can cause that and some of those things can be fatal to a dog, If she is still like this I would recommend taking you dog to an animal hospital so you can figure out whats wrong with her, it may not be anything serious, it can be stress from being scared of something but when it comes to a dog acting like that, I would be extra careful with how long you wait!
