Infection from cat scratch

Common Questions and Answers about Infection from cat scratch

infection

Avatar f tn Hi - did you mean that you got Bartonella henselae, or B henselae, from a cat scratch? You can't get hepatitis B from a cat scratch. Bartonella (B) henselae is a more common infection from a cat scratch.
Avatar f tn You can get an infection from scratching yourself on about anything. You could get a bacterial infection but the doctor would see that and so would you. Really, I think you are worrying unnecessarily. Dog and cat groomers get scratched and bitten all the time. I have friends that are groomers. They have survived many years. You woukd need to worry more about wild or stray animals.
Avatar n tn My son showed was diagnosed with cat scratch fever the beginning of september. I was told that cats come across this virus and it does not stay with them like a cold virus, I recently became ill with extremely painful swollen glands on one arm and under arm, headache and fever. My doctors believe it is cat scratch fever and are culturing for it, but we do not know for sure yet. My doctor told me recently that once a cat has the virus it always has it and can infect other people.

Avatar m tn hi Nathan I will send you a site with info on Bartonella or Cat Scratch Disease....for most a scratch from an infected cat doesn't cause any problems, however for those with a lower immunity it certainly can. read the info..if you did get infected, it appears that treatment with antibiotics needs to be done for a 2-3month period. good luck http://familydoctor.org/familydoctor/en/diseases-conditions/cat-scratch-disease.
Avatar f tn I didn't say that cat scratch isn't caused by a strain of bartonella. I said: "ordinary cat scratch [disease] is not the same as the tick-borne co-infection." Cat scratch, as the name suggests is transmitted through...cats! Like you say, Bart is an umbrella term.
Avatar f tn If not HIV, can a dog scratch pass any other illnesses to humans?? I know about cat scratch disease, but this incident happened with a dog, not a cat...
Avatar m tn Like Teak said, you didn't have risk for HIV. "Cat scratch fever" is a common term used to describe a cellulitis that results in bacteria from the cat's claws causing an infection in the tissues. Keep your eye out for redness, pain, swelling, and sometimes, a fever. If you notice those symptoms, you need to seek medical attention.
Avatar m tn If a cat scratches a person viciously, with a nasty gash, what infection could this cause? The outdoor only cat died mysteriously days later. I know I was bitten by ticks, and had a nasty cat scratch, I'm trying to sort this out. What co infection causes a staph like rash, and folliculitis? I'm currently being tested for Babesia.
Avatar n tn But I have red swollen scratch marks and I was wondering could the cat liter from his claws get in me and hurt me or my baby?
1609501 tn?1299201602 Well he (my hubby) thought this was from a cat scratch (cat scratch fever) but the gland in his arm pit has persisted and now he says he has one in his neck, near his thyroid gland that is hurting. When he did labs it didn't show infection so why do you suggest ID MD and what diseases could cause this? Frankly I have fears of cancer. My father died from melanoma two years ago and one of his first symptoms was a swollen gland in his neck. Again the labs didn't suggest a cancer issue.
Avatar m tn Some cat related diseases that make people sick are common, such as cat scratch disease (or cat scratch fever). Toxoplasmosis is a disease that can come from cats and dog faeces, but people can also get it from eating raw meat or from gardening. Cats can also carry rabies that as you know can be a deadly viral disease.
Avatar m tn Unless it was a bite or scratch, the only other thing i know that can transfer from cat to human is hydatis(not sure about the spelling) Have you taken your son to the doc and mentiioned this?
Avatar n tn can you get toxoplasmosis through cat scratch if cat happens to be infected and has feces on their nails? I thought you could only catch by ingesting but after researching online now im not so sure.
Avatar m tn My cat Mikku is a 3 year old male cat. I adopted him from a shelter. Initially he was weak and after vet consultation he put on weight. In the mean while he developed some boils on his neck area. Dr. advised me to apply Kiskin lotion. But eventually Mikku scratched the boils and it converted into scratch wounds. Its been 2 months now and guessing it as an infection Dr. gave a course of anti-biotic. During the course it was better but after the course again its come back to same situation.
Avatar f tn Can cat scratch fever have a connection to lyme disease?? I had cat scratch fever when I was 17 yrs. old. I had a lymph node removed from behind my left ear because if it. If it is a culprit,, and this could be lyme disease, can I be in more serious health trouble at the age of 39.... since I have not been dx'd with it, and no treatment. I dont know what to think?
Avatar f tn t know all the ways a person can get it as they know it is on the nails of a cat and transfered from cat to cat by fleas, more common on kittens or outside cats. They now say it can be transfered from cat to human in the cats saliva. Either way his inflammation and infection levels were extremly high but cell count were normal which they said ruled out cancer as that would affect cell count.
Avatar f tn s truly an abscess then your cat has infection. Infection can spread and can make your cat very sick...can even cause death. All you need are antibiotics but you really need to go to your vet now.
Avatar f tn Well, it could be energy drink withdrawal or a virus. But the symptoms you have made me think of "cat scratch fever." It is caused by the bite or scratch and sometimes just petting a kitten or a cat. They carry a bacteria called Bartonella henselae which may come from the fleas on the cat or kitten. The symptoms are swollen lymph nodes (sore and inflamed) , the bite site had a raised papule with a ring or you develop more than one ring, fever, chills, nausea, vomiting fatigue.
Avatar f tn She is my only cat and I have gotten some accidental playful scratches from her before so I am sure if she was going to contract cat scratch fever to me I wouldve already gotten it. I will get my tetanus shot sometime this week.
Avatar f tn What are the chances of catching hep c from a cat scratch? Curious as my cat is playful.
Avatar f tn Can you catch hep c from a cat scratch? Say it had scratched somebody else not long before?
Avatar m tn Hello from a newbie, Does anyone know of a link between Bartonella with encephalitis and chronic fatigue syndrome? I have CFS and in 2005 suffered from a severe Bartonella infection with encephalitis. I don't know if this is linked as I have also contracted Hepatitis B and C, Epstein Barr twice (at 18 and at 42), dengue fever, tuberculosis, and chronic herpes (since 1981).
